"If ya say so."Cloud smiled. "Been stickin' ta the indoors more now that it's winter, so I ain't too sick. Learned my lesson from last year," he added more seriously. Spot had given him quite the earful for being so naive and forgetful last winter. He was still smiling as Critter helped him look for something hot to drink. It was really nice having someone around. It could be quite lonely back at home since the other boys liked and were able to be outside much longer than he could during this time of year. ((Hey just wanted to give you a heads up that I'm heading for bed now. It's late over here. XD Looking forward to chatting more tomorrow! ))

((No problem at all! Truly sorry about the wait, I've had midterms!))
"Been stickin' ta the indoors more now that it's winter, so I ain't too sick. Learned my lesson from last year."
Critter frowned. She hated thinking about Cloud being sick, although there wasn't much that she could do. Cloud had the tendency to be spacey, so it wasn't really anyone's fault.
"I'm glad you're better this year. I don't want ya bein' sick."
Glancing over briefly at him, Critter's eyes quickly fell back to the cabinets in front of her, continuing her search in silence.

"I'm glad you're better this year. I don't want ya bein' sick."
Cloud nodded. "Don't like bein' sick either..." He lowered his eyes some, ears turning pink. It was a little strange but touching to know that she didn't like him being sick. Not all people cared. Spot cared, but not in the same way Critter seemed to care.
He brushed his nose some. "The winter wasn't so bad this year," he commented.

"Don't like bein' sick either..."
Critter quirked a smile. She couldn't imagine anyone enjoying being sick. Those two things had never seemed as though they would be able to fit together very well at all.
"The winter wasn't so bad this year."
She shrugged, "It coulda been worse, I s'pose. It's still winter, though. It ain't much fun ta sell in." Her eyes lighting up, she finally pulled out the familiar cocoa, a triumphant grin settling on her features as she set it in front of the boy. "Found it!" She exclaimed happily.

"It coulda been worse, I s'pose. It's still winter, though. It ain't much fun ta sell in."
Cloud nodded in agreement. Snow was pretty, but after awhile it got really cold and made things very difficult. "It'll be nice once spring comes."
"Found it!"
His eyes brightened as she announced her findings. "Great! You found the hot cocoa." He grinned as he found the mugs. "Just need ta boil some water."

"It'll be nice once spring comes."
Critter nodded quickly in agreement. Spring was always her favorite season, with the rain causing the flowers and nature to bloom all around her. Animals always seemed to be happiest in the spring, and that was never a bad thing in her book.
"Great! You found the hot cocoa."
She grinned, carefully beginning to shift the powder into the mugs with a spoon at Cloud spoke again.
"Just need ta boil some water."
"Yeah," She said, "Which I'm hopin' that ya have experience doin'. I don't do stuff like this very much."

"Yeah. Which I'm hopin' that ya have experience doin'. I don't do stuff like this very much."
Cloud gave her a sheepish smile as he got the hot water ready. "I got it... I help Mr. O'Quinn sometimes back at home."
The neighbor that had raised him for a few years had also taught him a few things about the kitchen. At the time, he hadn't been really paying attention and had drifted off constantly, but somehow now that he was older he could remember everything he was taught and do it just fine.
"Durin' the winter, I'm always needin' a hot drink so I do it alot," he explained.

"I got it... I help Mr. O'Quinn sometimes back at home."
Critter couldn't help but grin back. She had to bite her tongue in order to hold back some sort of comment about the pair of them working really well together. She didn't want to push her luck. Not now.
"Durin' the winter, I'm always needin' a hot drink so I do it alot."
"I'm impressed." She grinned softly, her gaze shifting from his hands as he got the hot water to his face. She couldn't help it. She knew that now. "I don't know what I'd do without ya." She smiled, inwardly cringing at her choice of words as a deep blush formed on her cheeks. Unable to take it back, she simply shut her mouth, deciding that it would be better to say nothing at all.

"I'm impressed."
His ears turned pink at her praise. "Ah well... it really ain't anythin' that special. Just like ta do what I can ta help around the lodge."
"I don't know what I'd do without ya."
Cloud glanced at her, head slightly cocked. A small smile formed on his lips as he shyly replied, "Well, don't know about you, but I know I would be really lonely without you."
She was one of his very very few friends. He could count all his close friends on one hand after all.

"Ah well... it really ain't anythin' that special. Just like ta do what I can ta help around the lodge."
"Nothin' special?" Critter laughed, "I'd kill ta know my way around a kitchen. I barely know anythin' when it comes ta cookin'..." Of course, she knew that it would hinder her ability to ever move up in their society, although she was fine with where she was. As long as she had people like Cloud around, then she didn't mind being just another kid on the street.
"Well, don't know about you, but I know I would be really lonely without you."
Critter nearly choked on air at his words. She swallowed thickly, calming down for a brief moment before finally allowing herself to speak again. "Y-Yeah... I'd miss ya a lot."
She knew perfectly well that the things that she was saying would be taken differently than she meant them. It was one of the things that she did like so much about Cloud. While she did often times wonder about what things would be like, she was happy with their friendship... And she didn't want to change that, for better or for worse.
"But ya haven't lost me yet!" She grinned.

"Nothin' special? I'd kill ta know my way around a kitchen. I barely know anythin' when it comes ta cookin'..."
Cloud's ears were still a nice shade of pink. "Ah well..." He carefully poured the hot water into the mugs. "I could um... always try ta help you wit' the kitchen," he added shyly. "I'm not a good teacher..." He often got distracted even when he was the one talking sometimes. "But I don't mind helpin' out and tryin'."
"Y-Yeah... I'd miss ya a lot."
He cleared his throat some, rather flattered by her statement. He passed her a mug of hot cocoa. He didn't really think many people would miss him. Probably just Spot, Critter, and maybe Mr. O'Quinn.
"But ya haven't lost me yet!"
He grinned as he sipped his hot cocoa. "That' very true!" He wrapped his hands around the warm mug. "I hope I won't ever lose you," he added quietly.
Cloud wasn't sure what he'd do if he lost one of his very close, dear friends. As if losing the parents he barely knew wasn't bad enough... life would be so different losing someone he actually knew very well.

"I could um... always try ta help you wit' the kitchen."
Critter's eyes widened a bit in surprise. Cloud was willing to teach her things in the kitchen?
"I'm not a good teacher... But I don't mind helpin' out and tryin'."
She grinned softly, nodding a bit as she took her mug of hot cocoa. "Yeah... That'd be real nice. Thanks, Cloud."
"That' very true! I hope I won't ever lose you."
Critter bit her lip gently, allowing the warmth from the cup to warm her hands, although she didn't focus too much on his words. She knew better than that, whether or not she wanted to admit it. "Ya won't. Promise."

"Yeah... That'd be real nice. Thanks, Cloud."
Cloud's face brightened, glad she accepted his offer. "You're welcome!" He gave her a sheepish smile. "Just gotta make sure it's okay wit' Mr. O'Quinn." He lowered his eyes, looking even more sheepish. "Last time I was in the kitchen, I didn't tell 'im I was doin' stuff and forgot and almost set the kitchen on fire."
"Ya won't. Promise."
He looked very relieved at her words. He knew that promises could be broken regardless if they wanted to or not... but still, it meant alot knowing that Critter was promising him. She meant alot to him. He felt very comfortable around her. He was at ease with Spot, but he didn't feel the same way around the Brooklyn leader. Spot was just, well, Spot. He didn't seem to be interested in the things Cloud was. Not like Critter.
"Pinky promise?" he asked shyly holding up his pinky.
