"Good..."
Lacey quirked a smile, not replying as she made her way out of the lodge with him. She took the map when it was handed it to her, flipping it around before narrowing her eyes at where they were going, as if mentally mapping out where it was.
"Closer to the bridge, right?"
"Yeah, but on the other side of the bridge from the docks, it looks like..." She mumbled, shuffling her feet slightly as she walked, caught up for a moment in looking at and interpreting the map.

"Yeah, but on the other side of the bridge from the docks, it looks like..."Spot nodded and was about to reply but noticed that Lacey's feet were about to get tangled up. "Whoa!" He maneuvered her a bit awkwardly, but safely to keep her from tripping. His cheeks were flaming. "Ah ummm. Careful with the map..." ((Gotta head off to bed. hope to see you on tomorrow! ))

"Whoa!"Lacey didn't really process what was happening before she was being steadied on her feet. Her free hand gripped a bit tighter onto Spot, swallowing thickly with a dark red tint to her cheeks. She cleared her throat, managing to force herself not to look over at him. "Ah ummm. Careful with the map...""Sorry..." She mumbled, although the blush on her cheeks was terribly intense. She hoped that it would be somewhat hidden in the fading light, although she was probably wrong. She loosened her grip on him slowly, briefly glancing over into the familiar pair of bright blue eyes before looking at the map again. "I think, um, we're almost there..." [Aw Goodnight! Talk to you tomorrow! ]

"Sorry..."
Spot cleared his throat as Lacey steadied herself. "It's umm... okay. Just be careful, okay?"
"I think, um, we're almost there..."
He glanced around, hiding his own blush. "Well... guess we gotta see what we can find that might match the symbol." He frowned as he looked at the familiar yet somewhat unfamiliar buildings. He had seem them practically every day, but they were different now. They weren't what he was expecting from the map. There didn't seem to be anything remotely close to the symbol on the map.

"It's umm... okay. Just be careful, okay?"
Lacey swallowed thickly, nodding a bit at Spot's simple instructions. Be careful. She could do that.
"Well... guess we gotta see what we can find that might match the symbol."
She nodded, clearing her throat and beginning to glance around in the direction of where the map was leading them. The buildings there seemed a bit dark and ominous, but there was nothing there that had anything to do with any of the symbols.
Lacey tilted her head, "That's... That's it." She was hesitant about it, although she figured that there could easily be something inside. "Should we go in?"

"That's... That's it."
Spot looked over at the building Lacey had pointed out and then glanced over her shoulder at the map. "Yeah... that looks about right."
"Should we go in?"
He hesitated. Should they? It was getting dark... and he wasn't exactly sure what was in this seemingly abandoned building. Could be dangerous, but then, it could hold some answers they desperately needed for their map. He swallowed and nodded silently.
"But... I'll go in first. Make sure it's safe. Don't know if anybody has used this buildin' in a very long time." He let go of her hand reluctantly. "Stay here... I'll let you know if it's safe."

"Yeah... that looks about right."
Swallowing thickly, Lacey turned her attention fully back to Spot. She had a slightly bad feeling about it, but she knew that it would be better to know what was there than to risk something bad happening because of it later.
"But... I'll go in first. Make sure it's safe. Don't know if anybody has used this buildin' in a very long time."
Not holding onto his hand anymore left Lacey with a slightly empty feeling, although she didn't budge from where she stood. She was nervous, although she wasn't scared.
"Stay here... I'll let you know if it's safe."
"Be careful. Get out quickly if something happens." She whispered. The last thing that she wanted was Spot getting hurt. However, she did as he said, remaining still where she stood and watching him with slightly wide hazel eyes.

"Be careful. Get out quickly if something happens."
Spot nodded, lips in a firm line. It would be stupid to stay if there was trouble. If something happened to him, Brooklyn would fall to pieces. He couldn't let that happen. "I'll be careful," he promised before heading towards the building. The doors at the front were locked, but he was sure there had to be another way in somewhere.
He quietly and carefully made his way around the building, looking for anything that looked like there could be an entrance. He was glad it wasn't dark out yet. There was enough light to make out the sides of the building easily. He should have no problem seeing an opening. It took a quite a few minutes, but he finally found a small door in the back. The hinges had rusted and pulled apart, creating an open door for Spot to gingerly squeeze through. It felt like hours to get in, but thank goodness it was only a couple of minutes. Spot couldn't help but feel a little uneasy now that he was inside such a big, dark building all alone.
It was difficult to make things out, but there were a few holes in the ceiling that lit small areas of the building. Seems like the place was once a busy warehouse. Not surprising since it was rather close to the bridge and the docks. He supposed they moved out to a bigger warehouse that was closer to where they needed them. This building was large, but one the small side for a warehouse.
After carefully scanning the area and poking about, Spot deemed it safe and hurried back to report his findings to Lacey. He was panting softly from his light run. "Looks... safe. Hope I didn't take too long?"

"I'll be careful."
Lacey nodded slowly, swallowing thickly as she watched him leave. She was rather nervous about what could happen, although she couldn't hear any sort of struggle or anything through the walls, so she figured that was a good thing.
"Looks... safe. Hope I didn't take too long?"
When Spot came back, Lacey finally allowed herself to visibly relax. He didn't look hurt or appear worried, just a bit out of breath. "No, no, not at all. What was in there?" She asked curiously. The building looked old and abandoned, so was it some sort of center for Queens newsies to hang around in Brooklyn? Did Rip use it?

"No, no, not at all. What was in there?"
Spot looked relieved when she replied that it hadn't been long. It had felt like forever inside the warehouse! Especially since he wanted to be absolutely sure it was safe.
"It's an abandoned warehouse..." Spot shrugged some. "It don't have much in it except old shelves and boxes. Not sure if we'll find anything." He might sound pessimistic, but in reality he felt like they could find something. After all, there were two of them. It would be easier to find at least one clue since now he wasn't alone. "Shall we look?" he asked, unsure if Lacey would want to risk it going in. It was a little unnerving to be honest. There could be a few rats slinking about and maybe other animals. Spot hadn't seen any, but that didn't meant there weren't any there.

"It's an abandoned warehouse... It don't have much in it except old shelves and boxes. Not sure if we'll find anything."
It was a bit disheartening to hear. Was there really nothing important in there? What if the map really wasn't leading to anything important? What if it had been made purely to make its way into Brooklyn and freak them out?
"Shall we look?"
Swallowing thickly, Lacey nodded. "Yeah... Sounds good ta me." It wouldn't hurt, even if there was nothing. Two pairs of eyes would be better than one.

"Yeah... Sounds good ta me."
Spot nodded, holding her hand tightly but not too tight as they made their way back to the entrance he had found only a few minutes ago. He pushed away some old cobwebs as they entered the dark warehouse. A lonely wind blew into the warehouse causing a little bit of snow to enter, but other than that... it was silent.
He let out a shaky sigh. "Guess we should start lookin' for clues?" He wasn't sure what to look for, but he was sure they would know the clue when they saw it.

The feeling of Spot's hand in hers was enough to make Lacey relax ever so slightly. She was still a bit nervous, having never been a huge fan of the dark, but knowing that Spot was there was definitely a plus. Her grip on his hand tightened ever so slightly as she followed him into the warehouse.
"Guess we should start lookin' for clues?"
Turning her attention to the blue-eyed boy beside her, Lacey bit her lip. "I guess so." She mumbled, although she didn't know what they were looking for. What if it wasn't obvious?
Nevertheless, her hazel eyes began scanning everything that they passed, checking for anything that looked out of the ordinary whilst sticking somewhat nearby Spot.

"I guess so."
Spot nodded silently as he began looking around, keeping Lacey close to his side. It was better to stick together after all. The warehouse seemed like it had been abandoned for years, but there was something out of place now that he was thinking more clearly. He just couldn't quite put his finger on it.
He frowned as he poked around some of the fallen debris with his cane. He was very glad he had brought it along. Who knew what one would face during the day? He always had it handy as a precaution.
"See anythin'?" he asked quietly.
Maybe Lacey could see what seemed off about the warehouse. Maybe it was those stack of crates to the side that seemed rather new for such a run down building?

"See anythin'?"
Lacey swallowed thickly, tearing her eyes away from some of the old machines as she heard Spot speaking up from beside her. There was something that didn't seem quite right, although she didn't know exactly what it was.
Just as she was about to reply, however, her eyes fell upon something in the corner of the room which had collected a significantly smaller amount of dust than anything else in the room. Making her way over to the crates, her movements were quick, clearing her throat as she gestured to the crates. "I think these might be something worth lookin' at." She stated, raising her voice only slightly above a whisper as she turned back to face Spot.

"I think these might be something worth lookin' at."
Spot followed her glance and hummed in agreement. Those crates really did seem a bit odd. He was glad he wasn't alone in his suspicions. He carefully followed alongside her, constantly glancing around to make sure the area was still safe. He froze and pulled Lacey back a moment when he noticed a shadow near by the crates move.
"Shhh," he warned softly, finger on his lips. "I don't think we're alone anymore..."

The moment that Lacey was suddenly pulled back, her entire body was tensed, and she was on guard. She couldn't afford to let anything happen to her, and before that, she had to make sure that Spot was safe. Nothing could happen to their leader, especially when she had been the one suggesting that they go out and figure out what the map symbols meant. It would be her fault.
"I don't think we're alone anymore..."
His words sent chills down her spine, although she slowly nodded, composing herself before biting her lip. Would that mean that they should get out of there? Or would Spot want to figure out what was in the crates before they left, and take the chance since he had some things to defend them with? She looked at him for a bit of guidance, her hazel eyes twinkling.
"Go? Or leave?" She whispered.

"Go? Or leave?"
He hesitated at her question. If he had been alone, he might have gone... but with Lacey here, he wasn't sure if it would be the best idea. He was the leader and she was one of his newsies so it was his responsibility to make sure she was safe.
"Leave..." Spot answered somewhat reluctantly, but his eyes were still on the crates. The shadow had stilled, but there was a a slight movement that let him know that there truly was someone there. He just couldn't confront the person at this time. He would wait... and come back another day.

"Leave..."
Lacey, swallowing thickly, was reluctant to move at all. She didn't want to get any closer to the crates, but she didn't really want to come back again and risk there being more danger there, either. However, she did as she was told, finally managing to force herself to step back.
Making her way back towards the door, Lacey couldn't help but feel a bit like she was holding Spot back. She knew that it would be difficult to sleep that night, thinking about what could have been in the crates, but she didn't know what she could do about it. She would have to deal with it, and she could. She just felt bad that Spot had to deal with it, too.

Spot glanced over his shoulder as they left the warehouse. The shadow moved once more, but stayed where it was more dark. Spot's brows knitted together. Soon... he would know what was going on. But for now, it was time to head back.
As they stepped back out into the cold, he felt his body relax from its tense position. He sighed softly and glanced at Lacey. "We should head home... quickly," he added, guiding her back towards the front of the warehouse. "We might not have found anythin', but we do know somethin' is up... that map ain't totally useless."

"We should head home... quickly."
Lacey nodded quickly. Getting away from whatever was in that warehouse sounded like a more than good idea to her, and she wasn't going to argue about it. She followed Spot around as he led her back to the front of the building, every now and then casting a glance over her shoulder to make sure that they weren't being followed.
"We might not have found anythin', but we do know somethin' is up... that map ain't totally useless."
She quirked a smile at that. It was nice hearing Spot being so optimistic, especially after the thoughts that had initially gone through her own head. It was a nice change of pace.
"You're right. And thanks... For catchin' that somethin' was up before we found out the hard way." Lacey quickly thanked him, stuffing her hands into the worn out pockets of her jacket. It was enough for her. "Who knows what would've happened if ya hadn't been lookin' out?"

"You're right. And thanks... For catchin' that somethin' was up before we found out the hard way."
Spot rubbed the back of his neck, a light blush appeared on his cheeks. "Ah well... I was puttin' in the back of my mind for the longest time," he admitted. "I just... well you made me think that maybe I shouldn't let it stay back there anymore." He had caught himself before he said that he wanted to spend time with Lacey. That could have been awkward. And well, what he said wasn't a complete lie. She had made him remember that map after all.
"Who knows what would've happened if ya hadn't been lookin' out?"
He nodded. "Yeah..." It wasn't like he could let something happen to Lacey or any of his newsies. "It pays to be careful they say."
They remained quiet as they headed back towards the girls' lodge first. He broke the silence as the lodge came into view. "Thanks... for helpin' wit' the map."

"Ah well... I was puttin' in the back of my mind for the longest time. I just... well you made me think that maybe I shouldn't let it stay back there anymore."
Lacey quirked a small smile at Spot's reply. She was glad that she had done something to help. She couldn't imagine what she would have done if something bad had happened to Spot. She never would have forgiven herself for not being able to help him.
"Yeah... It pays to be careful they say."
She nodded. It made sense, and it had been proven now enough for her to believe it.
Approaching the girl's lodging house, Lacey found herself reluctant to leave Spot's side. She really did enjoy spending time with him, and the fact that it was basically over for the day was a surprisingly empty feeling. She didn't want to leave, although she didn't want to stay there and overstay her welcome.
"Thanks... for helpin' wit' the map."
Lacey was a bit surprised at Spot's thanks, but she was grateful. A small grin tugged upwards at the corners of her lips, and she nodded briefly. "Yeah... What are friends for?" She was always up for adventure, and time with Spot was special no matter what they were doing. "Thanks for takin' me along." She nudged him lightly.

"Yeah... What are friends for?"
Spot cracked a small smile. "Yeah... friends."
It was a little odd to think of the two of them as friends. Before, he would have viewed them as newsie and leader or bird and leader. But lately? Hmmm, things had changed. This relationship had grown more from just leader and bird. He was starting to see them more as equals: leader to leader. Things were certainly changing.
"Thanks for takin' me along."
A faint blush appeared on his cheeks. "Ah well... thanks for comin' along. I appreciate it."

"Yeah... friends."
Lacey couldn't hold back the smile tugging on her lips when Spot agreed. Calling herself friends with the leader of Brooklyn was special, in her eyes, and that was enough for her. She couldn't have asked for anything more.
"Ah well... thanks for comin' along. I appreciate it."
She grinned, "Always. That's a promise." Lacey was more than willing to spend time with Spot, whether it was helping him out with something or just sitting down and talking for a while. It was a special thing for her, and she appreciated the time that she spent with him no matter what that time was spent doing.
