Lacey had been searching for Spot for a while now. She had checked his usual selling spots, figuring that he would still be selling, although she hadn't found him there. She had then asked Mr. O'Quinn at the lodging house, and he hadn't known anything, either. The next place that Lacey had been headed was the docks, although she found Spot on her way there.
Immediately falling into pace beside him, Lacey's words were hurried and slightly slurred together, although she did her best to speak in a way that would be easily understandable.
"Spot, I realized that a lot of things I've been sayin' and doin' lately may seem a little bit off, but I promise I don't mean anythin' by 'em. All those things that I said about really carin' about ya and stuff, ya shouldn't take 'em too seriously. Like, don't over-analyze them or anythin' like that. I'm not tryin' ta make things difficult or anythin', but words just sometimes start just fallin' outta my mouth, and I don't think much about what I'm sayin' and stuff. I don't want ya thinkin' that I'm like all the other goils in the borough when I'm not..." She finally sucked in a breath.

Spot blinked in surprise as Lacey suddenly came up beside him and spoke rather quickly. He was tempted to say something but decided the better of it. The two of them needed to put the previous night behind them. "It's fine. No need ta explain yourself or anythin'. We set things straight last night, didn't we?" He raised an eyebrow, silently asking if she didn't think that they had actually cleared things up. "Don't worry about it."
Things certainly wouldn't be the same again. That would be impossible. Arguments had a way of changing people's perspectives in good ways and bad ways. Things just had to change. It may be for the better or for the worse, who knew? Only time would tell how Spot and Lacey would change.
He cleared his throat some. "I'm headed ta the lodge. Shall I walk you back?"

Lacey hesitated. Was that a trick question?
"Um, yeah, but I just thought ya might be thinkin'... I guess not. Never mind." She sighed.
"I'm headed ta the lodge. Shall I walk you back?"
Lacey bit her lip, slowly nodding. If he really wasn't angry about anything that had happened the night before, then she wasn't going to let herself worry about it. She wasn't going to kill their chance of making things the way that they had been. Like many people, if there was anything that Lacey hated, it was change.
"Sure... Thanks." She forced a bright smile.

"Um, yeah, but I just thought ya might be thinkin'... I guess not. Never mind."
Spot raised an eyebrow but said nothing. Perhaps he had been thinking about the previous night some, but he was going to leave it in the past. No use letting angry words bother him when he had bigger problems to face. It'd be best to try to forget it all together. It would be difficult, but he'd do it. After all, it wasn't really healthy to cling to the words of arguments.
"Sure... Thanks."
He nodded. "No problem." He almost said he didn't want her to walk alone, but mindful of last night's discussion, he caught himself in time. Yes, they had said some things they probably didn't quite mean, but he should heed the subtle hints that they did mean. You didn't say anything in an argument unless you had once thought them. It was time he was a little more considerate and stopped being so bossy. "It can be a lonely walk," he said instead.

"No problem."
Lacey finally allowed herself to relax. The Spot that she was talking to now felt much more like the Spot that she knew and adored. There was, of course, a gruffness that came with being a Conlon that Spot definitely had, although she had come to see that as just another quirk. It was something that she could quite easily look past, and she was determined to do so for the rest of her time as a newsie.
"It can be a lonely walk."
She nodded, "Yeah... Walkin' with someone else is always a good idea." While at times, there was safety involved in that, most of the time it was just for the sake of comfort. It was nice walking with someone else, and walking with Spot was something that she enjoyed. She would take what she could get when it came to things like that.

"Yeah... Walkin' with someone else is always a good idea."
Spot nodded as they made their way back to the lodges. It was actually rather nice that the lodges were near each other, but not too close for either to cause havoc for the other. Just the right walking distance.
He put his hands in his pockets as they reached the girls' lodge. "Here we are... Hope you have a nice evenin'." He gave her a small smile. "Stay warm."
There were other things that he would like to say, but now wasn't the time. If he wanted to get to Staten before nightfall, he needed to get moving. Talking with Lacey would just have to wait until he returned.

"Here we are... Hope you have a nice evenin'."
While Lacey was sad that the walk was over, she was a bit glad that she would be able to head in and get some sleep before the next day. She had some papes that she had to make up for from all of the distress and worrying that day, and she figured that it would be a good idea to do it as soon as possible. "You too, Spot. Thanks for walkin' me back."
"Stay warm."
Lacey grinned, biting her bottom lip gently. "Acourse. You too." Flashing him another small smile, Lacey headed inside.

"You too, Spot. Thanks for walkin' me back."
Spot smiled and tipped his cap in farewell. "You're welcome. Anytime."
"Acourse. You too."
He nodded. "Will do. Rest well," he added before heading towards the boys' lodge. He would just pop by Mr. O'Quinn's office to let him know that he would be staying in Staten and leave a note for his birds. He'd leave a special note out for Cloud to keep an eye on things while he was gone. He just hoped Cloud would notice the note tucked under his pillow.
