“Yeah... we go a bit... Wild on St. Patrick’s Day.”
Lacey giggled, shrugging a bit, "I'm sure that would make it even more fun ta see."
“You’re right... it’s not quite perfect.”
She bit her lip, slightly nervous that Spot was going to shoot down her optimism. Truthfully, she had always tried hard to be optimistic, but some times were more difficult than others.
“But with you... I think it can be.”
Lacey blushed, wrapping an arm around Spot in an attempt to return the side hug with a large grin on her face. "If I can help make things better for you, then at least I'm doing something right." She whispered.

”I’m sure that would make it even more fun ta see.”
If possible, Spot seemed to redden even more. “I’ll make note ta stay out of your sight on that day...”
”If I can help make things better for you, then at least I’m doing something right.”
He smiled and gave her a light squeeze. “You’ve been doin’ great. I think the next year will really be somethin’.”

”I’ll make note ta stay out of your sight on that day...”
Lacey pouted playfully, “I’ll have to hunt ya down in that case. It’s somethin’ I’ve gotta see.”
”You’ve been doin’ great. I think the next year will really be somethin’.”
Her cheeks flushed a bit at the comment. She had been worried that she wasn’t much good at being anything more than a bird and a friend to Spot, but she appreciated it immensely. “I agree. And I’m excited for it.”

”I’ll have to hunt ya down in that case. It’s somethin’ I’ve gotta see.”
Spot looked embarrassed and regretful that he had even brought the day up. “You really... um, I mean, it’s really nothin’. You don’t want ta see...”
”I agree. And I’m excited for it.”
He smiled and poked the dying embers to liven them up a bit before they all went to bed. The new year looked to be promising. Changes of course would happen, but somehow they didn’t seem so bad.
Spot looked over at Lacey a little more seriously. “With the New Year... we might need ta think about lettin’ the newsies know about... um us.” His eyes searched hers, wanting to know how she felt. He honestly wasn’t quite ready, but if Lacey was okay with it, he would be okay. Besides, the new year was a time for new opportunities. Perhaps it was time for him to be a little more open around the Brooklyn newsies.

“You really... um, I mean, it’s really nothin’. You don’t want ta see...”
Lacey couldn't help but giggle. "It's too late ta go back on your word now, Spot. I'm gonna hunt ya down and be attached at the hip with ya all day." She teased.
“With the New Year... we might need ta think about lettin’ the newsies know about... um us.”
She bit her lip. While a part of her just wanted to come right out and say that she was fine with it, she knew that there was more to it than just that. She would be fine, aside from maybe a few offhand comments from other newsies here and there, but Spot was going to have to deal with a hit to his reputation of being a leader with no funny business involved. It could potentially change a lot for him, and she almost felt bad being the reason for all of that.
"If that's what ya want... But only if it's really what ya want, Spot." She whispered.

”It’s too late ya go back on your word now, Spot. I’m gonna hunt ya down and be attached at the hip with ya all day.”
The tips of Spot’s ears were bright red. He had put himself in quite a pickle...
”If that’s what ya want... but only if it’s really what ya want, Spot.”
He nodded slowly. He wasn’t sure if they were ready to share their relationship with the public, but it was something they would need to begin thinking about. “We’ll wait and see... one step at a time. Don’t want ta get to ahead of ourselves.”
Change took time after all.

”We’ll wait and see... one step at a time. Don’t want ta get ahead of ourselves.”
Lacey nodded. She could handle waiting. She wasn’t in any rush to start telling people. Being with Spot in Private was just like she assumed being with him in public would be, and his family knew and accepted it, so she couldn’t say that anyone else really needed to know. Her brothers wouldn’t care that much, so they could wait.
“That sounds like a plan ta me.” She agreed.

”That sounds like a plan ta me.”
Spot smiled glad that she agreed and wasn’t in a rush. She wasn’t that sort of girl. She understood him, and he liked to think he understood her just as well.
He stretched a bit. “We probably should head ta bed,” he admitted, noting Thunder had returned for quite some time and had been doing something in the kitchen area. It looked like the elder Conlon was ready for bed.

"We probably should head ta bed."
Lacey nodded slowly, stretching out a bit before pulling herself to her feet. "Yeah... Which room am I staying in?" She asked, figuring that it may not be good to walk into the wrong room and risk waking Jasper. It was late, and he had obviously been incredibly tired.

”Yeah... Which room am I stayin’ in?”
Spot nodded and stood up, helping Lacey up. “Right... I’ll show you.”
It took a little stretching to get his limbs feeling well after sitting so long. He showed her toward a small little hall where there were two small rooms. The one on the left was where Lacey would stay, and the one on the right was where Jasper and Spot would be sleeping.
“I...um, hope you sleep well,” he said shyly.

“Right... I’ll show you.”
Lacey nodded, following Spot back to the rooms and pausing briefly in front of her door. “Thanks.” She laughed nervously.
“I...um, hope you sleep well,”
She bit her lip, quickly leaning in to press another gentle kiss to his cheek. She pulled back just as quickly, a faint flush still present in her cheeks. “Yeah, uh... you too. Goodnight, Spot.”

”Thanks.”
Spot turned a slight pink. “It’s nothing really...”
”Yeah, uh... you too. Goodnight, Spot.”
He seemed a bit flustered at her kiss as he also murmured a good night. Once she had entered the room and closed the door, he put a hand to his cheek.
“Lover boy, eh?”
Spot nearly jumped in surprise, forgetting his brother was still around. “G-goodnight ta you too!” he said quickly and hurried into Jasper’s room leaving Thunder to just softly chuckle as he set up the couch for bed.

The night itself almost seemed to pass too quickly for Lacey, with the bed being far more comfortable than the one that she slept in at the lodge. She didn't wake up at any point in the middle of the night as she usually did, and she didn't want up to Mrs. Harbour's booming voice in her ear.
Dragging herself out of bed in the morning, however, it was still quite early, and Lacey was a bit reluctant to actually leave the room and risk waking Thunder or someone else up before it was really time. However, she knew that she and Spot would have to leave and head back to Brooklyn soon if they were going to be able to catch a bit of the morning edition. Peeking through a tiny crack in the door, she did her best to gauge whether or not she should wait or head out yet.

Spot had slept alright. It wasn’t his best sleep nor his worst sleep. It was just okay. He supposed it was just from all the excitement of the past couple of days. He woke up bright and early out of habit. It was technically too early for even newsies to already be up, but as leader he felt it was his duty to be up way before the others. Thunder seemed to have developed a similar habit but due to his job at the railroads not leadership.
The two were quietly talking and eating breakfast now. Spot didn’t want to wake Lacey earlier than necessary, and Thunder did not have work that day so he was letting Jasper sleep in.

Upon hearing faint sounds from the kitchen area, Lacey slowly relaxed, making her way out of the room slowly and walking out to the kitchen. Spot and Thunder were sitting at the table, eating breakfast, although she was hesitant to walk out and interrupt them. Regardless of what was happening, however, she simply took a seat beside them without a word. She was still exhausted, although it was some of the best sleep that she had gotten in her entire life.
"G'morning." She mumbled briefly, resisting the urge to lay her head down on the table and fall back asleep.

”G’morning.”
Spot looked over at Lacey a bit surprised since it was still a little early to be up. “Morning,” he echoed quietly. “I hope... we didn’t wake you?” He had tried his very hardest to be quiet, but that didn’t always work out. He wasn’t sure if Lacey was a light sleeper after all.
Thunder chuckled softly and stood up. “You okay with potatoes for breakfast?”

"I hope... we didn't wake you?"
Lacey quickly shook her head. "No, I'm just used ta wakin' up early, I guess. Mrs Harbour is kinda strict about us bein' up on time when she comes in." She knew that it was all because she wanted the girls to succeed, however, so she never complained about it.
"You okay with potatoes for breakfast?"
She quirked a smile. Very Irish. "Yeah, that sounds good ta me. Thanks."

”No, I’m just used ta wakin’ up early, I guess. Mrs. Harbour is kinda strict about us bein’ up on time when she comes in.”
Spot nodded, relieved that he hadn’t disturbed her sleep. He also understood having to wake up early. Mr. O’Quinns was the same way. Though, Spot was always up way before the lodge owner was.
”Yeah, that sounds good ta me. Thanks.”
Thunder gave her a sheepish smile and started working on her breakfast. Jasper’s would wait until whenever he woke up.

Lacey truly hadn't been expecting for things to go the way that they had. Getting to celebrate Christmas with Spot had been a lot more fun than she would have had just staying at the lodging houses, especially considering she had gotten to see him being so happy around his family. Now, the only thing that worried her was getting back in time to sell papers.
"When are we leavin' ta get back? Are we missin' the mornin' edition taday?" She frowned a bit.

”When are we leavin’ ta get back? Are we missin’ the mornin’ edition taday?”
Spot smiled slightly, shaking his head. “Don’t be so worried. It’s still early.” He nodded to her breakfast that had just been set in front of her. “We’ll leave after ya eat. The mornin’ edition won’t be out yet. Day after Christmas so it don’t come out at it’s usual time. One of the few days where they print it out later than usual.”
Thunder nodded. “Yeah, the boys here like to take that opportunity to sleep in a little.” He grinned some. “Same for Mr. Thorne thought he won’t admit it.”

“Don’t be so worried. It’s still early.”
Lacey bit her lip. She wasn't meaning to worry, she just didn't want to miss out on any of the selling when it had the potential to be a really good selling day.
“We’ll leave after ya eat. The mornin’ edition won’t be out yet. Day after Christmas so it don’t come out at it’s usual time. One of the few days where they print it out later than usual.”
She sighed. She had forgotten about that. There had been one year where Mrs Harbour had let the girls sleep in a bit later, and Lacey had woken up and seen all of the sunlight outside. She had been horrified, rushing out before everyone else to go to the Distribution Center, but it wasn't open yet. She had sat there for almost an hour because of it. "Right."
“Yeah, the boys here like to take that opportunity to sleep in a little. Same for Mr. Thorne thought he won’t admit it.”
Her cheeks flushed a bit and her gaze dropped to the table. "Sorry, I'd forgotten."

”Right.”
Spot pursed his lips slightly as Lacey sighed. She seemed... upset? Sad? He wasn’t sure... He was really bad at reading girls’ emotions. “You... okay?” he asked hesitantly.
”Sorry, I’d forgotten.”
Thunder shook his head with a wide grin. “No need ta apologize. We all forget.” He gave his brother a mischievous look. “You should’ve seen Spot when he foist became leader of Brooklyn. He also had forgotten about that and-“
“Thunder!!!!” Spot cut him off quickly. “Don’t you have dishes to worry about?”

"You... okay?"
Lacey quickly perked up, feeling a bit bad for making Spot worry in the first place. "Yeah! I'm just still kinda tired. Takes me a few minutes to wake up, I guess." It wasn't a complete lie. She had been more lost in thought than anything else, and she didn't want to worry Spot any more about her.
“No need ta apologize. We all forget. You should’ve seen Spot when he foist became leader of Brooklyn. He also had forgotten about that and-“
“Thunder!!!! Don’t you have dishes to worry about?”
Lacey grinned, "No, no, please continue. I'd like to hear more about young Spot."

”Yeah! I’m just still kinda tired. Takes me a few minutes to wake up, I guess.”
Spot didn’t think that was all that was on her mind, but he decided he wouldn’t press. Best not irritate her. “Okay, we can rest a bit before headin’ out.”
“No, no, please continue. I’d like to hear more about young Spot.”[/i]
Thunder grinned, though torn about whether or not he should delve into Spot’s past or not. “I’m afraid I’ll have ta save that for another day.” He winked at Lacey and nodded at the fork in Spot’s hand. “Spot’s got a murderous eye on me. Some other time,” he promised.
Spot cleared his throat. “I’ll be gettin’ my coat.”

Lacey flashed him a small smile and nodded, "Alright, if that's what ya want."
“I’m afraid I’ll have ta save that for another day. Spot’s got a murderous eye on me. Some other time.”
She laughed, glancing over at Spot, who seemed incredibly uncomfortable with the thought of Thunder telling her any more than he had already said. "Alright, but I'll make sure ta remind ya." She winked back, nudging Spot gently.
“I’ll be gettin’ my coat.”
She bit her lip, "Already?"
