“I hope you’ll like it. It’s the best I could do for today...”
Lacey bit her lip. Having crossed the bridge, she had to admit that she had no clue where they could have been going. She could have sworn that her palms were beginning to sweat quite badly, and she was just praying that Spot wouldn't notice.
"I'm sure I'll love it, Spot. I'll enjoy it purely 'cause it's dinner with you." She murmured, although she could feel her heart pounding as she was led down an alleyway. Where were they off to?

”I’m sure I’ll love it, Spot.”
Saying that did make Spot feel a little better... but he was still nervous. His hands were beginning to get a bit clammy.
”I’ll enjoy it purely ‘cause it’s dinner with you.”
Spot gave no reply, just cleared his throat as they reached what seemed like the end of the alleyway. He let go of her hand and reached out to push away a curtain that covered an opening to one of the buildings. It seemed to be a back door except there was no door really. The inside wasn’t very bright. Quite dark, actually. The only light from inside could be seen was candlelight scattered about somehow. It has hard to tell.
Spot held out his hand to help Lacey inside. “Well... here we are.” Even though Lacey couldn’t quite see the inside yet, he was quite pleased. It seemed the inside was set up exactly like he had requested. Thunder was very dependable when it came to things like this.

“Well... here we are.”
Lacey was blown away. She had quite honestly been expecting something crowded, like Tibby's or one of the cheap delis that would give newsies a reduced price on some of the meats there. She hadn't been expecting what she got, which was a nice quiet place, complete with romantic candlelight, away from everyone else that they knew.
"Woah..." She exhaled, stepping inside after taking Spot's hand for help, her hazel eyes wide as she glanced around. It was beautifully set up, but how had Spot gotten it like this? Surely he hadn't had time to do it himself. "This is beautiful, Spot."

”Woah... This is beautiful, Spot.”
He was very glad that it wasn’t bright in the room. Lacey wouldn’t be able to see his flushed, but very pleased face. He chose to remain silent as he put the curtain back in place then lead Lacey to a small table. It wasn’t a very nice table, but it had been done up nicely. A worn checkered tablecloth covered it. Although the wobbly legs stuck out a bit from underneath. A candle was at the center of the table with a small bouquet of flowers and two menu of sorts were laying in front of the seats.
Spot pulled out the chair for her to sit down on, His breathing was a bit quick. He was still a bit nervous and somehow... excited. His eyes were adjusting to the room where they could now see the old lanterns hanging about the room, lighting the area but not brightly. They were in a small room and the only other door led to what was mostly likely a kitchen. Lacey would be able to tell just by the smell of something cooking or baking. It smelled sweet and buttery.

Taking a seat in the chair that Spot had pulled out for her, the female took in the appearance of the room once again. It was simple and yet somehow felt more romantic than many places that she had gone with Spot before. She had always thought that this sort of thing was something that people would only tell about in stories, but now living it for herself, she could now fully understand why people could be swept off of their feet by a few simple and cliche romantic gestures.
The smell in the air was something familiar, and yet Lacey couldn't put her finger on what it was. She did her best not to look visibly perplexed by the smell, instead flashing a shy smile at Spot from her seat. That night would almost certainly be one that she would remember for the rest of her life.

Thunder stood in the shadows, chuckling to himself. He could tell his younger brother was quite pleased with the turn out. It wasn’t easy, but he managed to pull it off. Spot definitely owed him big time for this, not that he would ever call him up on it. Though, it would be fun to tease him about owing him. But enough of watching, it was time to be getting into action.
He cleared his throat, “Might I interest the two of you in a drink?”
He smirked slightly at the slight jump Spot gave. His brother seemed to have forgotten that he was here to help make things run smoothly.

“Might I interest the two of you in a drink?”
Lacey inhaled sharply upon realizing the previously silent presence in the room, her eyes shooting over towards the shadowy figure until she realized that it was Thunder. Her shoulders slowly relaxed, and a small smile found its way onto her lips. "Did you set all of this up?" She grinned. Is that how Spot had made this work?
It certainly seemed as though it had taken a bit of time. It wasn't a full day's worth of work, but there was enough effort put into making the place look clean and nice that Lacey could appreciate it. She bit her lip, "Uh, water for me, I think."

”Might I interest the two of you in a drink?”
Even though he knew his brother would be there, he was surprised by his sudden presence. His ears burned at the smirk on his brother’s face. The guy seemed to be enjoying this too much... but he couldn’t complain. Thunder did an excellent job of setting things up for this special night.
“Water, please,” he muttered as Lacey also requested for water.

”Did you set all of this up?”
Thunder grinned. “You like it? Not bad if I do say so myself.” He chuckled a bit. “I did have a little help from the boys here, but most of it was by yours truly.”
”Water please. Uh, water for me, I think.”
He cocked his head slightly and nodded. “Two waters then. I’ll get that for you in just a few minutes.” He placed a simple folded card on the table. “You can pick out what you’d like to eat on there. I’ll be back with your waters and some bread.”
Thunder gave his brother a nudge and wink as he headed back into the kitchen. He hoped the two would like the menu they had been able to provide. He had gotten a few tips from the boys back at his borough as well as some of the waiters from Tibby’s. So he managed to scrounge up a few recipes that weren’t too hard and should be satisfying.

“You like it? Not bad if I do say so myself.”
Lacey beamed, "It's gorgeous."
“I did have a little help from the boys here, but most of it was by yours truly.”
Turning her attention back to Spot for a few moments, there was no denying the redness of his ears. There was a certain overall fondness that settled over Lacey as she sat there, and she knew that she was going to have to do something nice for him in return.
“You can pick out what you’d like to eat on there. I’ll be back with your waters and some bread.”
She giggled, "Thanks, Thunder." The whole setup felt incredibly formal - something that she definitely hadn't been expecting - but she was loving every new thing that would come up. Opening up the menu, Lacey's eyes would flicker up from the menu to glance at Spot every now and then, trying her best to take in everything about the night so far, as well as to make predictions about what else would be coming.

"It's gorgeous."
Thunder was pleased by her comment. He could tell Spot was pleased too. After all, this was for him and his gal.
"Thanks, Thunder."
"My pleasure!" he replied with a smile. It looked like things were going smoothly. It was due time that Spot started being more romantic.

Spot felt his shyness return as his brother left to get their drinks. He shouldn't be this bashful! He was Spot Conlon. Leader of Brooklyn! He almost wondered if he was jumping the gun on this, but the soft blush on Lacey's cheeks... She was quite pleased with this. He could push past his awkwardness. Somehow...
He picked up his menu and glanced over it, peeking over at his girl occasionally before finally clearing his throat. "You umm... find anything you like?"
Thunder had created a pretty nice menu. Though, he doubted his brother did the pretty designs on it. Who could it have been? But that wasn't important. They ought to decide what they would eat. There was a little bit of everything to choose from. Simple Chinese dishes from China Town (could Thunder really cook that?). A few dishes from Tibby's. A little something from the Italian restaurant in Brooklyn. Several Irish dishes and few more choices from the restaurants in Jersey,

"My pleasure!"
Lacey grinned softly, burying her face into the menu once again as she began looking over the choices. There was a good range of food, Lacey had to admit. How was Thunder supposed to make this? There was no way that they had brought in people from the places that served these things.
"You umm... find anything you like?"
Glancing up from her menu, Lacey flashed Spot a shy grin. "I, uh, was looking over some of the sandwiches. I was thinking maybe the roast beef one. What about you? Suggestions?"

"I, uh, was looking over some of the sandwiches. I was thinking maybe the roast beef one. What about you?"
Spot glanced back down at his menu. He had somehow missed the roast beef sandwich. That seemed liked a good choice, but there were several sandwiches to choose from.
"What about you? Suggestions?"
He furrowed his brow slightly. "I'm actually fond of corn-beef," he admitted. "So I might go for the reuben sandwich." He smiled over at her. "They all look good... and Thunder is a pretty good cook so," he trailed off a bit.

"I'm actually fond of corn-beef, so I might go for the reuben sandwich."
Lacey grinned ever so slightly. "That sounds like a good choice ta me." She hadn't had a sandwich in a long time, considering she would normally just take whatever she could get. Sandwiches weren't the cheapest options, so she didn't usually get them.
"They all look good... and Thunder is a pretty good cook so..."
She bit her lip, "I'm sure that he is." She couldn't be entirely sure if there was something that was bothering Spot or not, although she figured that asking him about it could wait until after the nice dinner that he had set up for them. She just wanted to make sure that she night was adequately romantic.

"That sounds like a good choice ta me."
Spot smiled back, glad she approved his choice. He knew some girls back in Brooklyn, even though it was Irish country, didn't care for corn-beef.
"I'm sure that he is."
He nodded, glancing back at the menu. Sometimes... just sometimes, he would be jealous of his older brother. Thunder had alot of abilities, after all. The guy was tall for one. Height was always a sore spot for the middle Conlon boy. Thunder was strong too. Spot wasn't bad at fighting, but when it really came down to it... Spot just wasn't buff enough to soak anyone too much bigger than him. Thunder had a presence. Well, Spot had one, but jealousy did make one blind. Thunder could cook. Thunder could fix things. Thunder this, Thunder that. It was hard living under his shadow. Spot had been secretly thrilled when Thunder had rejected the offer of being leader in Brooklyn and in Staten. It gave him the opportunity to create what he was now. But every once in awhile... he would be jealous of Thunder's many talents.

Thunder returned with two glasses of water and a small basket of bread, nice and warm. The air felt a bit tense... Spot was probably just being shy or something. He better brighten things up.
"Have you decided what you two would like?" He smiled at both, watching to them both curiously.

"Have you decided what you two would like?"
Lacey cleared her throat a bit. She had never been the best at ordering food, just because she tended to be picky, but she didn't want to seem picky when it came to being around Spot. Surely that was something that would turn him off of liking her to begin with?
"Roast beef sandwich... Please." She closed the menu in front of her, setting it down on the table with a quick smile.

”Have you decided what you two would like?”
Spot glanced over at Lacey as she cleared her throat then gave Thunder a nod.
”Roast beef sandwich... please.”
He smiled slightly. “Reuben sandwich for me.”
Thunder seemed pleased with their orders, giving them a bright smile before heading back to the kitchen area.
“So...” Spot wasn’t sure where to begin a new conversation. “Um... you have a good day?”
Yeah way to go,Spot. What a way to start...

“Reuben sandwich for me.”
Lacey beamed a bit, her gaze once again dropping to the table in front of her.
“So... Um... you have a good day?”
She couldn't help but grin a bit as Spot grasped at straws for another conversation starter. Casually, she shrugged, although made sure to make use of a line that she had heard a boy say to a girl once or twice. She just hoped that it would have the same effect. "Better now that I'm with you."
Almost instantly once she had said it, her own cheeks turned bright red, and she cleared her throat awkwardly. Perhaps... She shouldn't try that sort of thing. Spot must have thought that she was an idiot for that...
"Sorry, I uh... How's your day been?" She quickly changed the topic.

”Better now that I’m with you.”
Spot couldn’t deny that he was surprised. Her comment didn’t seem very Lacey-like. It somehow amused him even though on a normal day he’d be disgusted by the comment. Perhaps this was really love? He remembered his uncle once saying that when you loved... the little things that bothered you before don’t bother you as much when they come from the one you truly love. It seemed he might be right?
He cleared his throat to reply when Lacey spoke up again.
”Sorry, i uh... how’s your day been?”
He raised an eyebrow. “You’re fine...” She must be feeling as awkward as him... he needed to make things better. “My day was all right, just the usual day. Boys haven’t been gettin’ inta any trouble. Things are fairly quiet.”
And well, quiet was good. It was rare. To be honest, it normally would make Spot uneasy, but these days, peace and quiet was something he craved. Who knew Spot Conlon would change so much? Not that he was power crazy or loved violence, but Spot had been a little more active in soaking and fighting in the past. He barely hid a shudder, thinking about his young past... he had been a pretty scary bird back in the day before Dragon relinquished his throne to him. But that was in the past and all hushed up. He didn’t have to worry about that. He was different now. He had grown up (perhaps not in height... but he had learned a lot over the past few years).

"You're fine..."
Lacey's cheeks didn't lose their red tint, although she nodded a bit choosing to shrug it off, but making a mental note never to say anything like that again.
Lacey really did care about Spot, after all. Over the time that she had spent together, she had come to care about him very deeply indeed. Perhaps even more than she may have realized.
“My day was all right, just the usual day. Boys haven’t been gettin’ inta any trouble. Things are fairly quiet.”
She nodded a bit. Things had definitely seemed quieter in the borough lately, with none of the birds really having much to report on. Things with Rip seemed to have settled down, too, with no more sightings of that strange group that had been in Brooklyn a while back. She just didn't want to mention that and ruin the mood. Spot had made such a special night and she was incredibly grateful, but she couldn't seem to shake the thought that she didn't deserve any of this, especially not from Spot.
"That's good... Quiet is good." She flashed a smile.

”That’s good... quiet is good.”
Spot smiled back. “Yeah it is,” he agreed. “Though I doubt the boys would agree with us.” He shook his head some. The boys liked being active. They needed something to do or for something to happen. Summer was too hot to sit around being lazy. “Just hope they don’t get inta too much trouble.”
Oils to help but hope things would stay quiet. He... he liked it.he didn’t want to think about Rip or Queens for a long time. For once, he was kinda jealous of Jack’s peaceful Manhattan.
“This has been a rather nice summer don’t ya think?”

“Yeah it is, though I doubt the boys would agree with us. Just hope they don’t get inta too much trouble.”
Lacey quirked another smile. "They'll be fine. They can only be hyper for so long, especially with the heat. Everyone's getting worn out earlier and earlier." Of course, the docks were usually a crowded place for the newsies during the summer months, just to swim and fool around, but Lacey never spent much time there when it was crowded.
“This has been a rather nice summer don’t ya think?”
She grinned a bit. "Yeah, it's been amazing." So much had happened that summer, and Lacey had really learned more about herself as a person. Perhaps the one thing that she was still more or less unclear about was where she stood exactly with her feelings towards Spot... Just because she had never felt this way before. "I'm sure the fall will get better, though; things'll start coolin' off."

”They’ll be fine. They can only be hyper for so long, especially with the heat. Everyone’s getting worn out earlier and earlier.”
Spot nodded. Lacey was right. The boys would use up all their energy too soon and have to rest back at the lodge. No time to cause any trouble. There were the evening hours to worry about... but who really would want to go out in the dark streets of Brooklyn so late? Too many dangerous folk out. The boys were smart. They’d stay out of trouble.
”Yeah, it’s been amazing.”
He looked pleased with her answer. Not many people liked summer with the heat and all, but her saying that made him feel that they were happy.
”I’m sure the fall will get better, though; things’ll start coolin’ off.”
Spot tried not to frown. Ah yes... fall. The time when the whether began to cool off... but also when trouble liked to begin to brew. It would be nice for cooler weather, just not the trouble it often brought alongside. “Yeah... cooler weather is always good for the boys.”
