"No worries. I ain't stupid..."
Jack held his hands up in defense. "Never said ya were. You're just kinda... impulsive." Another big word that he had learned from Davey, that was usually used to describe himself. He and Spot weren't much alike in many ways, but in this way... there was no question that they were similar.
"I got a borough ta look after. Can't do anythin' stupid wit' them to worry about."
He nodded. "And you've got family, too. And people that care about ya," He pointed out, hoping that it would give Spot another reason to stay away from Rip for the time being. "Just be careful. I'll let ya know as soon as I've got somethin' worked out with everyone."

"Never said ya were. You're just kinda... impulsive."
Spot raised an eyebrow. "Since when did you become a walkin' mouth?"
Not that he disagreed with Jack's comment. He could be pretty impulsive... he jumped the gun one too many times as Thunder liked to remind him.
"And you've got family, too. And people that care about ya."
He sighed a bit, thinking about his brothers. "I know..." His voice was softer now, not as irritated or angry.
"Just be careful. I'll let ya know as soon as I've got somethin' worked out with everyone."
Spot made a slight face, but nodded. "Yeah... I'll be waiting."
And planning. He would do his best not to be "impulsive," but he wasn't going to sit around forever. He needed to do something.

"Since when did you become a walkin' mouth?"
Jack shrugged, "Davey's been talkin' a lot. Plus Sarah's tryin' ta help me read better. Says it'll help me adjust better ta non-newsie livin'." He wasn't so sure, but he didn't bother questioning it.
"I know..."
It was good to see that Spot genuinely seemed to be willing to step back and wait for a while before anything happened, and Jack knew that it would help him rest easier knowing that.
"Yeah... I'll be waiting."
Jack nodded again, rising from his seat. "And ya might wanna get your goil before she does somethin' stupid."

Lacey had heard enough. Even through the slight daze that she was in trying to distract herself, she could still hear bits and pieces of the conversation, especially when Jack had raised his voice to Spot. That was all that she needed to slip through the back door once more.
She had to get to Queens and figure out more about Rip. Spot could be in danger, and she wasn't going to risk that. Moving at a brisk pace, she kept her head down, one hand gripping the necklace that Spot had gotten her a while back as she made her way around through the other boroughs towards Queens. She had to get there before nightfall if this was gonna work.

"Davey's been talkin' a lot."
Spot snorted. When was Davey not talking?
"Plus Sarah's tryin' ta help me read better. Says it'll help me adjust better ta non-newsie livin'."
He nodded. "She ain't wrong." Spot had been doing the same, sorta. He kept up with his schooling, though he better start working on that a little more. He had about another year or more left as a newsie.
"And ya might wanna get your goil before she does somethin' stupid."
"You don't know the half of it..." Lacey had a habit of getting into trouble. Maybe having her as a bird wasn't the best idea. Too late to change that. He would just have to keep an eye on her like Jack said.
He also got onto his feet and spoke at his regular tone of voice. "I try ta though. Anyways, I appreciate the help and talk. Jus' let me know when you got everythin' set up for that meetin'."
Spot turned to see Lacey, only to find her gone. He growled underbreath, hoping she hadn't just gone to do something stupid...
"How long has she been gone..."

"She ain't wrong."Jack scoffed, "I ain't no intellectual. People like me. I'll be fine." Of course, he had his dreams about what he would do when he left, like go to Santa Fe and explore, but there was still a part of him that didn't want to stop being a newsie to begin with. "You don't know the half of it..."He quirked an eyebrow, although he didn't reply. That was what Spot got for dating a bird, he supposed. They were bound to be curious. Sarah was more of a classic woman, staying home, doing laundry, cooking, things like that. Lacey didn't seem to be that way at all. "I try ta though. Anyways, I appreciate the help and talk. Jus' let me know when you got everythin' set up for that meetin'."He nodded a bit, "I'll find ya. It'll be as soon as I can make it. And don't do anythin' with Rip before at least I'm there, too, okay?" He at least wanted Spot to have someone there for backup, just in case things went south. The meeting would be the best place, if possible.
"How long has she been gone..."
Jack shrugged a bit, "Five minutes or so? Not too long. What's wrong?"

"I ain't no intellectual. People like me. I'll be fine."
Spot shrugged. It was true, people liked Jack, but Spot still thought it wasn't a bad idea to listen to the things Sarah said.
"I'll find ya. It'll be soon as I can make it. And don't do anythin' with Rip before at least I'm there, too, okay?"
He couldn't help but roll his eyes. "I won't," he promised. He knew better than to try doing a move on his own... minus planning. He could still plan! But going alone was definitely out of the question. He wasn't making the same mistake twice with Queen's leader.
"Five minutes or so? Not too long. What wrong?"
Spot cursed in his native tongue. It was probably a good thing Jack didn't understand Gaelic... "She better not be doin' what I think she is," was all he said before heading out himself. Lacey needed to stay out of this. He wasn't about to get another girl hurt because of Rip.

"I won't."
Jack trusted him. Spot was a smart guy, and he had gone up against Rip before. That hadn't ended well, and he was just hoping that they wouldn't have to repeat it. If they did, then Jack wanted to be there to give Rip a proper soaking and Spot a proper chance.
"She better not be doin' what I think she is,"
Jack bit his lip, hesitating a moment as Spot left. Hopefully, everything was okay... If not, Queens would have to be the first place he went to when he tried to set up this meeting. If not, he could be risking getting Lacey and Spot hurt.

Spot realized a little late how he probably should have thought things through a bit before just running out of Medda's. He wasn't even exactly sure where Lacey went. Sure, he had a hunch, but that didn't mean it was true. Lacey might have just gone back to Brooklyn for all he knew.
But still... he better go with that gut feeling and check around here. Someone had to have seen her. He would head towards the other boroughs first. He couldn't risk the chance that she went to Queens... She wouldn't do that? Would she?

Jack bit his lip. He didn't like where this was going, but he wasn't going to make Spot do it all on his own. "Spot! Wait!" He called quickly, racing up behind the smaller boy and managing to keep pace with him. "Let me help ya look. I shoulda told ya when she left."
He hoped that nothing bad had happened. However, if she did go into Queens, he was the only one of them who could go there without being attacked.

"Spot! Wait!"
Spot was slightly surprised to hear Jack, but glad to see the guy. He stopped and waited for the Manhattan leader to catch up.
"Let me help ya look. I shoulda told ya when she left."
He was tempted to snap at Jack, but the guy was just trying to help. It wasn't like he would know what sort of trouble Lacey tended to get into.
"Thanks," was his short reply. "I don't know where she'd go... but I got a hunch."

"Thanks,"
Jack nodded a bit, although he could sense that Spot was bristling a bit. Hopefully this would turn out well. If something happened, there was a large chance that Spot would be impulsive all over again, and he could end up dead.
"I don't know where she'd go... but I got a hunch."
"Where's that?" He raised an eyebrow.

"Where's that?"
Spot made a face before letting the word slide off his tongue bitterly, "Queens... she wants to know everything wit' me an' Rip." He supposed she did deserve to know a little, but he'd rather her not get caught up in this.

"Queens... she wants to know everything wit' me an' Rip."
Almost immediately, Jack moved in front of Spot to keep him from moving forward even more. "Hey, let me look. I can take care of it. It's dangerous for you ta go there." He warned.

"Hey, let me look. I can take care of it."
Spot scowled up at Jack. "She's my goil," he pointed out. "I have to go look."
"It's dangerous for you ta go there."
He really couldn't argue with that, but he didn't want to give up. "Jack," he said firmly. "I'm goin' with you. If she's there, I have to take responsibility. She's my goil and my boid."

"She's my goil. I have to go look."
Jack bit his lip. As much as a part of him was inclined to agree, knowing that he would have been the same way if something was wrong with Sarah, he knew that this was different. It was just too dangerous. "Spot, it ain't a good idea. She'll understand."
"Jack, I'm goin' with you. If she's there, I have to take responsibility. She's my goil and my boid."
There was a firmness to Spot's voice that Jack knew that he wasn't going to get through. He wasn't gonna win this argument. So, with a soft sigh, he nodded. "We've gotta stay hidden with ya there. I'm not havin' your blood on my hands. Just let me handle Rip, though." He insisted.

"Spot, it ain't a good idea. She'll understand."
He was not pleased with that. "I'm still goin'," he insisted firmly. His Irish temper was slowly creeping up.
"We've gotta stay hidden with ya there. I'm not havin' your blood on my hands. Just let me handle Rip, though."
As much as Spot would rather handle Rip, he knew Jack was fine. He should just be grateful that Jack was letting him go into Queens. "Fine. I'll stay outta sight."

"I'm still goin'."
Jack put his hands up in surrender. He knew better than to argue with Spot when he would start to get angry.
"Fine. I'll stay outta sight."
Jack nodded, beginning to head briskly towards Queens. It would be easier to find her if it was still light out, and they were losing the daylight quickly. Hopefully, this would all work out.

Spot was satisfied when Jack surrendered. There was no way he was letting Jack go into Queens on his own after his girl.
He glanced up at the sky as the two of them headed to Queens. It wasn't dark, but if they didn't hurry it would be late evening before they knew it.

Jack was quick to move through the boroughs until they got to the border of Queens. He couldn't spot any birds, figuring that they could be headed back to the lodging house for some food or something like that for the night.
"C'mon then." He mumbled, beginning to move quickly to the shadows of the nearby buildings and alleyways so that they could begin looking for Rip.

"C'mon then."
Spot nodded, following after Jack, being carefully to stick to the shadows and out of sight. It was difficult... seeing as it was still bright out. The sun was doing an excellent job of shining down upon them. The boys of Queens seemed to be a bit lax around the border between them and Queens. That was good for them at least.

Hopefully, everything would work out, because Jack didn't know what they would do if things went south. He kept nearby Spot, although more out in the sunlight, figuring that people could look at him and not Spot that way.

They were extremely lucky not to get caught this far into Queens. They were almost in the dead center of the borough... and no sight of Lacey or Rip. Which was good, then not. Maybe she wasn't here after all?
Spot nudged Jack. "You see her?"

"You see her?"
Jack bit his lip as Spot nudged him, shaking his head before continuing his walk forward. However, almost as soon as he did so and looked around a corner, he practically pounced to keep Spot from walking forward any further. There, standing in front of them, was a familiar head of red hair, and an even more familiar tall man.
"She's with Rip."

Spot frowned as Jack suddenly blocked him from looking forward.
"She's with Rip."
"She's what?"
Jack had to be joking... pulling his leg! She couldn't. She wouldn't. She shouldn't! What in the world was she thinking?
"Let me see!"
