"He coulda been holdin' a knife ta my throat and no one would've stepped in."
Spot couldn’t believe he was about to defend the guy... “Its all over now... and Rip would never hold a knife ya a goil... anyways, just drop it. It’s over.”
He handed her a handkerchief as the made their way to the lodge. It was a bit of a wya to walk but as soon as they made it to the lodge, he led her to the kitchen to sit down while he made a cup of hot cocoa for the two of them.

“Its all over now... and Rip would never hold a knife ya a goil..."
Lacey was stunned. Sure, maybe he was right, but hearing something even remotely understanding from Spot about Rip caught her off guard.
"Anyways, just drop it. It’s over.”
She bit her lip, slowly taking the handkerchief and nodding slowly. "Yeah... it's over. Sorry."
Finally reaching the lodge, Lacey's legs practically gave out under her once she was finally able to sit down. The warmth of the lodge was comforting, but she didn't know what to say. She was so incredibly shaken up by the whole thing. "I wanted ta save you."

"Yeah... it's over. Sorry."
Spot just shrugged. There was nothing to say or needed to be said.
"I wanted ta save you."
He shushed her as he gave her a a hot cup of cocoa. "Don't think about that." He sat across from her with his cup of cocoa. "Just relax and drink."

"Don't think about that. Just relax and drink."
Lacey still sniffled a bit, but carefully took the cup from his hands once it was handed to her, sitting in silence for a few moments as she did as he said, taking a small sip of the liquid. After a couple more moments, however, she spoke again. "I just wanted ta save you, I wasn't with 'im alone. And I wasn't in Queens."

"I just wanted ta save you, I wasn't with 'im alone. And I wasn't in Queens."
Spot raised an eyebrow but didn't press her. "We'll talk about that later," he said quietly. "Just drink your cocoa before it gets cold."
Right now, they needed to calm down a bit. Spot's heart was still beating rapidly from the scare Rip had given him. For now, they needed to reign in their emotions so they could talk rationally later.

"We'll talk about that later. Just drink your cocoa before it gets cold."
Lacey huffed a bit, but did as she was told. In a way, she was right back where she had started, sitting at a meal table in forced and uncomfortable silence, practically bursting at the seams. However, in another way, it was Spot, the man that she had been trying to protect, the one that she loved so much that she would have given herself up in a heartbeat for.
It took her a good ten minutes or so to completely finish off the cocoa, though she had been drinking quickly at some points just because the warmth calmed her down a bit. She was still jittery, but she felt better there with Spot... even if they weren't saying anything.

The next ten minutes were silent except for the soft ticking of the hall clock. Both sipped their hot cocoa as they calmed their nerves over the event that had just taken place.
"Feeling better?"

"Feeling better?"
Lacey did her best to force a smile for him. There was another moment of silence before she carefully reached out, taking her hand into her own.
"I love you."

"I love you."
While that wasn't the answer he was expecting, he didn't mind it. He gave her a small smile as they held hands. "I know... I love you too."
It had taken alot of courage to say that simple phrase in the past, but now, it came out so easily. He supposed he became more comfortable with expressing his true feelings.

"I know... I love you too."
It was so comforting to hear. There had been so many moments where Lacey had been afraid that she would do something that would prevent him from feeling that way, or that she would lose him somehow. But he was still there. He was still there after all of that.
"Then I'm feeling better." She murmured.

"Then I'm feeling better."
Spot let out a sigh of relief that he didn't know he had been holding. "Good... that's good."
The moment Rip had called his name... and he had seen Lacey in his grip. He swore he would never recover from that shock. Well, until now. Hearing that she was okay. That she was feeling better. It made all his worry and tension leave.

"Good... that's good."
She moved a bit closer to him, concern flashing over her features. "Are... you?"
She knew that Spot had to have been worried, though he had put that aside to take care of her. Now it was her turn to do the same for him.

"Are... you?"
Spot blinked in confusion. "Am I?" Oh, he just realized what she was referring to. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine too."
It had taken him a moment to register her question. He blamed it on the shock.

"Am I?"
Lacey raised an eyebrow. He definitely seemed dazed.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine too."
She nodded slowly, though she wasn't entirely sure if she believed him. That would just have to be kept to herself. "If you promise."

"If you promise."
He nodded more confident in knowing what she was saying. The shock was slowly starting to fade away. "I promise. It's all okay."

"I promise. It's all okay."
Lacey cleared her throat a bit. "Could we... take a walk for ten minutes or so?" She was just eager to get out and stop sitting around again.

"Could we... take a walk for ten minutes or so?"
Spot pursed his lips but nodded. It was getting late, but a short walk would be all right. They probably could use a walk now that they had calmed down a bit. "Yeah, a walk sounds good ta me."
He stood up and offered his hand to help Lacey out of her seat.

"Yeah, a walk sounds good ta me."
Lacey nodded a bit. It would be nice just to have the opportunity to get some fresh air... now that she was finally able to stand on her own again.
Taking his hand, she rose from her seat, interlacing her fingers with his just to continue gripping onto him, heading out of the lodge after thanking Mr. O'Quinn for allowing her in.

Spot felt comforted by the interlacing of his fingers with Lacey. Just knowing she was there made things feel so much better. The burst of cold air as they left the lodge was slightly unexpected but welcomed. The cool weather was just what they needed.

Beginning to walk in relative silence with Spot wasn't uncomfortable at all. It was nice just being able to breathe fresh air, even when the coolness outside brought a flush to her cheeks, sending her boroughing just a bit closer into the warmth of Spot's body beside her. It wasn't until a moment or two into the silence before the broke the silence again.
"Spot?" She turned her head to face him. "What's gonna happen to us when we aren't newsies anymore?"

"Spot?"
"Hmmm?" He paused from their walk to look back at her.
"What's gonna happen to us when we aren't newsies anymore?"
Spot pursed his lips. That was a subject he tended to avoid. He didn't like thinking ahead even though he knew it was about time he started really thinking about the future. "I don't know," he answered quietly. "We'll just have ta start a new life I guess... I might find a job at the docks... or move over to Staten with Thunder and Jasper."

"Hmmm?"
Lacey bit her lip. She didn't think much about the future just because she knew nothing about what she would do. She could work in a factory despite how dangerous it was, but she had no skills or education. She could barely read beyond basic headlines and things of the sort.
"We'll just have ta start a new life I guess... I might find a job at the docks... or move over to Staten with Thunder and Jasper."
She opened her mouth to speak, but fell silent once again when he finished speaking with a slow nod. He was leaving. "Ah... okay."

"Ah... okay."
Spot shrugged. "It's not set in stone or anythin'. I don't really think about what'll happen next..." He gazed off into the distance. "Thunder wants me to follow my dreams, but I know he kinda wants me ta move ta Staten. But I don't know if I could really ever leave Brooklyn even after I stop bein' a newsie."
The future was so near, but it felt so far off. He didn't really like thinking about it, but he couldn't avoid it much longer. Brooklyn would need a leader to replace him soon. He couldn't run from that responsibility.

"It's not set in stone or anythin'. I don't really think about what'll happen next..."
Lacey nodded. She understood that well enough. That day was creeping closer but she wasn't sure if many people knew what they were going to do... or where they would end up.
"Thunder wants me to follow my dreams, but I know he kinda wants me ta move ta Staten. But I don't know if I could really ever leave Brooklyn even after I stop bein' a newsie."
She bit her lip, "I think you should trust yourself instead... ya know what's gonna be best for ya." And I'm scared to lose you.

"I think you should trust yourself instead... ya know what's gonna be best for ya."
Spot sighed. "Yeah... that's what Mr. O'Quinns's been sayin'. I just don't know, you know?" He looked over her wondering if she had similar struggles. "I'm not really good at much." Well that wasn't exactly true, but his size was just a major setback in getting almost any job in Brooklyn.
