"Yeah...that's true."
Ace smiled. "And well, I ain't real picky. All food is pretty good ta me."
"It'd be hard but people would love ya."
He was still shaking his head some. "Yeah, they'd love me, but I wouldn't really be what they need."
"I'd rather just stay out of it all together ya know?"
He nodded in agreement. "Yeah... I don't really like bein' caught up in all that leader stuff myself."
"Yeah...I think it'd be fun. Ya ever wanna find me go ta the girls lodge. If I ain't there someone can tell ya."
His cheeks turned a bit pink at the mention of the girls' ldoge. "Ah, well. It definitely would be fun." He ran his hand through his hair a little nervously. "I'll find ya somehow." He gave her a small grin. "Lunch will be on me."
"Some people just aren't meant to be happy..."
He couldn't help but feel angry at her words. The bitterness in it hurt him deeply. He didn't know what she had been through, but he knew that no matter what all people deserve to be happy. Yet, he knew no matter how hard he argued, some people just wouldn't believe the same way he did.
"I don't believe that," he said softly, though more to himself than to Astrid. She would only be able to hear his words if she were listening closely and carefully.
"If it makes a different I'm sorry..."
He stopped and glanced back at her with a small smile. "I forgive you."
Her words had hurt, but she had apologized. Even if she hadn't really meant the apology, he forgave her because she had said she was sorry... and this was her first offense towards him. He was willing to give her a second chance.
"It's just hard to see the light in someone when they crush it...so maybe he's doing good..."
He wasn't looking at her now, but he was still listening to her words.
"I don't know...all I know is an angry boy... So I'm sorry...he's your friend..."
He stared up at the stars above them. "Rip's not a boy... he never was," he said quietly. "He never got the chance."
"Night.."
Ace glanced back at her once more and gave her a small wave of goodbye. His unshed tears sparkled in the moonlight as he continued on his way. He rubbed his eyes hard, willing his tears to go away. He really shouldn't have smoked earlier, he scolded himself. Though, he knew deep down the smoke wasn't the reason why the tears appeared. He thought he had buried those memories and feelings along time ago.
