To say that Lacey had been worried when she had woken up and found Whisper gone would have been a drastic understatement. It told her exactly what she had feared, although upon inquiring at the boy's lodging house about Spot, she found him gone, as well. She hoped that the pair had gone together the safe route, because if not, she wasn't sure if she would ever see Spot again.
The thought of losing Spot was a lot for Lacey to take in. She didn't know how to describe it, but it pained her greatly to think about her leader getting hurt. She wanted him to be happy and safe, no matter what that meant, and if he had gone through Queens, that would be highly unlikely. However, Spot was smarter than that, and he didn't seem to trust Whisper, either.
Her hazel eyes scanning the horizon, Lacey stood at the bridge, waiting for some sign of Spot coming back desperately.

Spot had his hands in his pockets as he crossed back into Brooklyn. He didn't give much to his surrounds or the newly fallen snow. He was focused on his thoughts. He hadn't been able to find out anything about Whisper. No one in Manhattan seemed to know her so it made him worried. He hasn't been able to get to Bronx to talk to Sand... he didn't want the girl to see him again just yet. He had to be cautious.

Upon seeing Spot, Lacey almost immediately rushed to his side, beginning to speak so quickly that she could barely understand herself.
"Spot? What happened? Are you okay? Did ya take Whisper back? Did somethin' happen?" Each question seemed to become more and more desperate for answers, her voice cracking a bit as she wrapped her arms around him tightly. "Ya scared me ta death, just vanishin' like that! I thought somethin' had happened to ya! I-I dunno what I woulda done if somethin' happened to ya..." She trailed off, clearing her throat and stepping away from him quickly.
Spot seemed quiet and lost in his thoughts, which wasn't much like him at all. She found herself quite worried, although she didn't want to come off as overbearing or anything like that. She was just... Relieved and terrified all at the same time.

"Spot? What happened? Are you okay? Did ya take Whisper back? Did somethin' happen?"
Spot blinked in surprise. He hadn't been expecting to see Lacey as soon as he crossed the bridge.
"I'm fine... nothin' happened really. And yeah, took Whisper back."
He frowned thinking about the girl again. There was just something he didn't quite like about her. But then, when it came to suspicions about Rip and Queens, he was rather biased.
"Ya scared me ta death, just vanishin' like that! I thought somethin' had happened to ya! I-I dunno what I woulda done if somethin' happened to ya..."
His brow furrowed with concern at her panicking. "I'm fine... just went ta 'Hattan. I told Cloud and a few of my other boids. It's okay..."
He wasn't sure how to comfort her. He really wanted too so he just held her hand.

"I'm fine... nothin' happened really. And yeah, took Whisper back."
Lacey was more than relieved over the news that Spot had really just been taking Whisper back home - wherever that was. "Ya scared me ta death, not bein' there... I thought somethin' happened to ya."
"I'm fine... just went ta 'Hattan. I told Cloud and a few of my other boids. It's okay..."
Spot taking her hand wasn't something that Lacey had been expecting. Her cheeks flushed bright red, and she cleared her throat. His hands were warm, just like they had been the night before when her own hands had been freezing cold.
"I dunno, maybe I worry too much about ya... I just don't wanna lose ya." She bit her lip, her gaze dropping to the ground.

Whisper hardly noticed anything else as she burst through the other side of Queens, determined to find Spot as quickly as possible. She knew that it was probably a bad thing for her to do when it came to her own personal life in her borough, but she would have felt terrible just leaving Spot alone when she knew what Rip's overall plan was.
"Spot!" She gasped out upon reaching the edge of the bridge. She momentarily stopped, looking between the pair in front of her and suddenly becoming quite worried that she had interrupted something, but she almost immediately pushed that aside. "Rip, he..." She cleared her throat, taking a breath before starting again.
"'M from Queens. Rip sent me here, but I ain't gonna just stand by an' let him hurt ya when I don't think that ya did anythin' wrong. He's gonna try usin' Darcy ta get to ya. You need to find her and get her ta Brooklyn somehow, or at least get someone ta let her know." She managed to finally force out. Letting go of the lies was like a weight off of her shoulders.

"Ya scared me ta death, not bein' there... I thought somethin' happened to ya."
Spot purses his lips. "I'm sorry... didn't mean ta make you worry," he apologized.
"I dunno, maybe I worry too much about ya... I just don't wanna lose ya."
He cracked a small smile. "Well... I'm here. Haven't lost me yet."
"Rip, he..."
Spot whirled around quickly, tense at the name of Rip. He pushed Lacey behind him, wanting to protect her. His eyes widened surprise when he saw Whisper in front of him.
"'M from Queens. Rip sent me here, but I ain't gonna just stand by an' let him hurt ya when I don't think that ya did anythin' wrong. He's gonna try usin' Darcy ta get to ya. You need to find her and get her ta Brooklyn somehow, or at least get someone ta let her know."
He frowned, unsure to whether he accepted her confession. There seemed truth in it, but how could he trust her when she wouldn't answer his questions earlier. He glanced at Lacey, unsure of what to do. He didn't trust Whisper, but she mentioned his cousin...

"I'm sorry... didn't mean ta make you worry."
Hearing Spot apologize for something so small came as a bit of a surprise for Lacey, albeit a pleasant one. It brought a fond smile to her lips, and she shook her head. "Don't worry. You're back now."
"Well... I'm here. Haven't lost me yet."
Lacey grinned, her blush intensifying a bit at his words. "Yeah, I hope that I don't ever, either."
Suddenly, she was pushed behind Spot, only to see Whisper over his shoulder. She tensed a bit, and the confession from the girl didn't make it any better. She was right. Whisper had been lying the whole time, and now she expected everything to suddenly become better?
The look that she received from Spot earned a small gulp from her, although Lacey slowly found herself nodding. "I'll go, okay? I can find 'er. I don't know if it would be the best idea ta have you in another borough all by yourself..." She bit her lip. If she could protect Spot, then she could handle risking getting soaked. It was a long shot anyway.

The lack of a real reply in front of her for the first few moments wasn't a surprise to Whisper. She had expected Spot to already basically know the truth about her, although there was quite obviously some sort of internal conflict that he was having.
"I'll go, okay? I can find 'er. I don't know if it would be the best idea ta have you in another borough all by yourself..."
Whisper bit her lip, "Let me find her. I can bring her back here. It won't be that difficult. I'm assuming there've gotta be other things ya need Lacey for anyway, Spot. I just wanna be on the good side of things for once."

"Don't worry. You're back now."
A small smile tugged at his lips. "Yeah... I'm back."
"Well... I'm here. Haven't lost me yet."
"Yeah, I hope that I don't ever, either."
He gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "Yeah... Brooklyn wouldn't be the same without ya."
"I'll go, okay? I can find 'er. I don't know if it would be the best idea ta have you in another borough all by yourself..."
He bit his lip and nodded slowly. "Sounds like a good idea..."
Spot didn't feel like saying anything more, not with Whisper there. He still didn't know if he should trust her.
"Just tell Sand I sent ya... I'm probably gonna go wit' Cloud ta Hattan." He let go of her hand and gave her a small smile. "Go straight ta Bronx... don't go near Queens."
"Let me find her. I can bring her back here. It won't be that difficult. I'm assuming there've gotta be other things ya need Lacey for anyway, Spot. I just wanna be on the good side of things for once."
Spot glanced at Whisper and sighed softly. "I'm sorry... I can't let or ask you ta do that." He looked over her carefully. "Lacey can handle it just fine." He raised an eyebrow. "Good side?"
Well, he honestly thought of himself as the good side. It felt obvious. But there was something about Rip that made him wonder. He had been genuinely nice to Darcy even though he was just using her to get to him. Once they finally met, Rip didn't harm Darcy even to get at Spot. It was actually Darcy's fault that things had gone so badly... he had just been in such shock that he had placed the blame on Rip.
"I don't know which side is the good side," he muttered.
There was so much that he didn't know.

"Yeah... Brooklyn wouldn't be the same without ya."
Lacey smiled faintly. She figured that Spot might have not meant for it to sound as romantic as it did, but she did really appreciate it either way. It made her feel special, and that was never a bad thing. She gave his hand a small squeeze in return.
"Sounds like a good idea..."
She nodded. She was more than willing to do something as long as it would help him in the long run.
"Just tell Sand I sent ya... I'm probably gonna go wit' Cloud ta Hattan. Go straight ta Bronx... don't go near Queens."
"Stay safe." Lacey flashed him a small smile in return, slowly backing away before making her way across the familiar bridge towards Manhattan. She would be there soon enough, and she had a reason to want to do well. She wanted to make Spot happy, whatever that took.

Watching Lacey and Spot interact was a bit strange, considering the hand holding and the posture that Spot had immediately jumped into upon Whisper's arrival. The girl quirked an eyebrow, although didn't say anything about it until she left.
"You're holdin' a boid's hand and then sayin' it doesn't mean anythin'?" She inquired, raising an eyebrow. It seemed highly unlikely, and while she wasn't normally someone who would talk about things like that, she found herself quite interested in the way that the Brooklyn leader seemed to be acting around someone who he claimed to have no feelings for in that sense.
"I'm sorry... I can't let or ask you ta do that."
"It makes sense. I'm just tryin' ta help. But it's your choice. I just wanted ta tell ya before it was too late." Whisper nodded.
"I don't know which side is the good side."
It was a bit difficult to hear, when Whisper had risked so much going over there because she figured that Spot was in the right. However, she understood. Things were probably pretty confusing and stressful to begin with. "I'm sorry... I wish I could really help ya. There just ain't much I can do..."

"You're holdin' a boid's hand and then sayin' it doesn't mean anythin'?"
His eyebrow twitches ever so slightly. "It don't mean anything," he answered coolly, slightly confused as to why Whisper was still here. "Lacey is my boid and I treat her like a lady." He quirked a brow. "What's that to you?"

"It don't mean anything. Lacey is my boid and I treat her like a lady."
Whisper raised an eyebrow, "If that's what ya wanna believe, then fine. It ain't none of my business..."
"What's that to you?"
She shrugged, faintly smiling and shaking her head. "Nothin'. Just be careful, Spot. I don't want ya gettin' hurt."
There was no way that Whisper was going all the way back around the city again just to go back to Queens, although she knew that it could be difficult to get back there without being seen and soaked for it. However, she would have much rather taken her chances there than running all around through all of the boroughs for the second time that day. She would take her chances.
"I'll see ya later, Spot. Good luck." She whispered, stepping back before continuing towards her home borough.

Spot wasn't sure to make of Whisper. He shrugged st her reply. Leaders were different from borough to borough so what could he say.
"Nothin'. Just be careful, Spot. I don't want ya gettin' hurt."
He cocked his head slightly. "Why?" he asked, genuinely curious. "You said you were from Queens..." He looked at her with a puzzled look. "I was always under the impression that Queens hated all things Brooklyn."
That was what he knew from soakings his newsies had gotten from Queens and what Dragon had drilled into him.
"Dragon said Queens hated us," he added somewhat absentmindedly.

"Why? You said you were from Queens..."
Whisper smiled faintly, a soft sigh escaping her lips. "I am. But ya can't always live by judgin' 'em all. Ya have ta get ta know 'em first."
"I was always under the impression that Queens hated all things Brooklyn. Dragon said Queens hated us."
She frowned. Had that really been drilled into Spot's head? That Queens hated Brooklyn? "Well, maybe Rip does. He's the leader. Maybe the last leader did, too. I wouldn't know. But I just know that I don't like hatin' people that I've never met." She bit her lip. "I'm not a bad person, Spot. I really don't like hatin' people. I don't want ta hate people."

"I am. But ya can't always live by judgin' 'em all. Ya have ta get ta know 'em first."
Spot nodded slowly. That made sense... but it was odd to grasp after being drilled to think a certain way for so long.
"Well, maybe Rip does. He's the leader. Maybe the last leader did, too. I wouldn't know. But I just know that I don't like hatin' people that I've never met."
He shrugged. "Blizzard was nice..." He had actuallly met him once. It had been hard to accept that Queens was evil at first but after being told it for so many years he had just accepted it as truth. "I don't think Rip hates Brooklyn... at least not from what he said last time we met." He crossed his arms some, deep in thought. "It's me he hates..."
"I'm not a bad person, Spot. I really don't like hatin' people. I don't want ta hate people."
He looked over once more. "Never said you were... I just don't know you."

"I don't think Rip hates Brooklyn... at least not from what he said last time we met. It's me he hates..."
Whisper did remember Rip having commented on that, although she didn't say anything. She didn't want to play a part in the rivalry between the two boys. She didn't want anyone getting hurt, especially not now that she had met both of the people involved. Neither one seemed bad - Spot seemed perfectly normal, just a bit cautious, and Rip just seemed... Broken.
"Never said you were... I just don't know you."
She smiled weakly, "And ya never have to. But stay safe, alright? Keep the borough safe. Maybe I'll see ya again sometime, but if not... Good luck with Rip. You've got support in Queens when and if ya ever need it."

Spot gave her a small smile. "I-I appreciate it... I got some rethinkin' ta do..." He held out his hand for her to shake. "Thank you."
There was a lot of thinking to do. He needed to discuss things with his older brother and get things straightened out.

Whisper offered Spot a small smile in return, slowly reaching out and shaking his hand. She was pleasantly surprised by the way that he seemed to genuinely seem to be thinking about things a bit differently now. "Don't hurt yourself thinkin' too hard. But good luck."
"Thank you."
She smiled, nodding briefly before pulling back. "I'll see ya again sometime when this is all over." She then turned on her heel, heading back home.

Spot cracked a small smile. "I'll try not ta think hard." He waved goodbye. "Good luck ta you as well... Stay safe."
He needed to head back to Cloud and make his way to Staten to see his brothers.
