Rip walked past the town hall towards the warehouses not located far behind. He didn't feel like spending the night at the lodge. He needed time alone. Time was so cruel to him.
Whisper had definitely made things difficult for him... she just didn't understand. At one time, he had wanted to be leader and prove himself to his borough. But things never went the way he wanted nor wished. Blizzard hadn't been able to help him become leader. There had not been time... Rip had to muddle through it by himself and struggle to maintain leadership over an angry group of boys.
He was walking shirtless again, giving up on wearing his torn up shirt and giving up on covering his mark even though he was freezing.
Whisper just didn't understand... No one did. He didn't join the gang out of fun or of his own will. It had been forced upon him. They owned him and quite literally too. Once he was an adult, all his current freedoms would be taken away. That was why he was so desperate to get his revenge from Spot. The day he became an adult would end all his chances.
That was another thing Whisper didn't understand... Spot had ruined his life, but not just his, he had ended Key's life. Without a care in the world... Key had been such a sweet kid. Key had also been owned by the White Hand, yet had remained so innocent and happy. And Spot had taken that all away... His only friend died at the hands of Spot Conlon just for crossing the border to complete the gang's bidding.
Rip sighed, gritting his teeth as he made his way to a small warehouse closer to Brooklyn's borders. He knelt down, back towards Brooklyn, looking for his hidden key.

Bookworm was carrying her usual stack of books. Tonight was a rather scary. It put her on edge more then usual. She didn't like it. Bookworm was jumpy and she didn't like it. Looking around her books she tried not to trip and fall. This didn't seem right...where was she...? Bookworm looked around sheepishly before she tripped over something and fell flat on her back. "Ow!" She yelpped as the books fell all over her in a rain of pain. She groaned softly not realizing she tripped over the leader of Queens.

Rip yelped as someone stumbled into him. At least he managed to grab his key... he looked up to snarl at the person but was surprised to see it was a girl. And Bookworm? What was she doing here?
He scowled at her as he got to his feet. "Watch where you're goin'," he scolded her gruffly.
He was so done with this night...

Watch where you're goin',
Bookworm jumped a bit not expecting to hear such a mean tone. She couldn't help tearing up a bit from the shock. "Sorry...it was an accident...."she mumbled as she went to pick up the books that were strewn across the way. Bookworm rubbed her eyes quickly trying to push the tears down. There wasn't time for that. She needed to find the lodge not cry in the street.

"Sorry...it was an accident...."
Rip just grunted as he managed to get back onto his feet. He narrows his eyes at the shorter girl.
"Shouldn't be out this late."

Shouldn't be out this late.
Bookworm nodded. "I know...they had me putting books up and I lost track of time..." she rubbed her eyes and took a deep breathe. "And I couldn't see where I was going cause of the books. And I don't know where I'm at." Bookworm stacked the book again and dusted them off gently. "And my books are dirty..." tears kept finding their way to her eyes and she realized that she had scraped her knee and hands quite a bit. "I...I'm bleeding..." Bookworm whispered softly looking at her hand that were slightly shaking. Her tears spilled out of her eyes without her knowing.

"I know...they had me putting books up and I lost track of time... And I couldn't see where I was going cause of the books. And I don't know where I'm at."
Rip sighed, trying not to yelp in pain. "You went the wrong way. Should've gone left not right at the library... You're behind the town hall."
"And my books are dirty... I...I'm bleeding..."
He sighed in frustration. This day was just not getting much better. He plopped his shirt and jacket onto Bookworm to warm her and just out of irritation. "Wait 'ere..." He turned back to his little warehouse and unlocked the door. "Come in. Fix up your knee or whatever and be on your way."

You went the wrong way. Should've gone left not right at the library... You're behind the town hall.
Bookworm nodded slightly. "I just got turned around..." she said softly. She could get back...
Wait 'ere...
She jumped a bit and nodded looking up at him. Why had he dropped his jacket and shirt on her? She didn't care. Bookworm hadn't realized how cold she was till she felt warm.
Come in. Fix up your knee or whatever and be on your way.
"Thank you..." she said carefully picking up her books and moved inside.

"I just got turned around..."
Rip grunted as he entered his warehouse and lit a lantern. He stuck to the shadows so Bookworm couldn't see him.
"Thank you..."
He gave her no reply as he flopped down onto a cot he had set up in the far corner of the room. "Bandages are ta your left," he muttered, draping an arm over his face to block out the dim light of the lantern from his eyes. "Don't touch anythin' else," he added as a warning.
Once she was done, he would tell her how to get back home. He didn't really feel like talking at this moment.

Bandages are ta your left,
She nodded a bit as she sat her books down on the small table. Bookworm went and found the bandages. "Do...do you have water or something...?" She asked cautiously.
Don't touch anythin' else
Bookworm didn't plan on touching anything else. Though she wasn't sure she wanted to go back outside. Stifling a yawn as best she could she looked around a bit. Her eyes fell on Rip. Sitting in the dark corner looking very dark himself. Though she thought he looked kinda sad and tired. Bookworm wondered why that was?

"Do...do you have water or something...?"
Rip sighed in exasperation. He wished she'd just hurry up and be on her way. He was tired and wanted to be left alone. "No," he answered her raspily. "Don't got water in here."
He shifted some on his cot. She was taking forever... Didn't she see that he just wanted to be alone?

No, Don't got water in here.
Bookworm sighed softly and wrapped up her hands lightly and then wrapped up her knee as well. That was taken care of. Now to check the books quickly and get out. She rubbed her eyes a bit tiredly trying to chase the sleep out of her mind but it only grew worse. She yawned into the first book she looked at and sat it to the side. Bookworm looked down at the book and sighed. She wanted to just lay down and sleep but she wasn't going to bother him. She refused to. That is until sne somehow managed to drift off sitting on the ground before she even picked up the second book. Bookworm didn't mean anything by it but she was exhausted from the day and her soft snores showed that.

Rip thought the silence was a little odd. He thought Bookworm would say something when she finished bandaging herself. But apparently not... He sat up to see what her problem was only to find her slumped over on the floor. The sound of her soft snores confirmed his suspicions.
He sighed through his nose and slowly got onto his feet. Looks like the only way to get rid of her was to take her to the girls' lodge. He sighed once more and carefully gathered up her books and placed them in his bag before very, very gently and cautiously picking up Bookworm. He made sure not to wake her as he carried her to her home. His body was crying out in protest when they reached the lodge. But soon... soon it would be over and he could go back to his warehouse.
Rip shifted the girl in his arms and slowly opened the door. He winced as the door creaked loudly. Great... now Ms. Seaton would probably wake up and make a fuss over the two of them. That was the last thing he wanted.

Bookworm barely noticed being carried. She just curled up dreaming happily. Hearing the squeak she shifted a bit but didn't wake up.
Ms. Seaton moved out of her room. "What on earth?!" She said in a loud whisper upon seeing Rip carrying Bookworm. "I knew it was a bad idea her working late again..."

"What on earth?!"
Rip sighed for what felt the hundredth time. He was just not having a good day at all. He just wanted to go to bed now.
"I knew it was a bad idea her working late again..."
He merely shrugged, hiding a wince as he held out Bookworm for Ms. Seaton to take. "Her books are in my bag..." he mumbled.
Rip really hoped Ms. Seaton wouldn't ask any questions and let him go on his way.

Her books are in my bag...
Ms. Seaton carefully took bookworm from Rip. "Alright do you want to leave them here or have her find you?" Ms. Seaton whispered gently swaying slightly to keep the girl in her arms asleep. "You look like you could use some rest...you can stay here for the night. I have a couch you can sleep on in the back away from the girls." She said with a kind smile.

"Alright do you want to leave them here or have her find you?"
Rip averted his eyes, feeling very awkward now that Bookworm wasn't in his arms covering his sorry state. "Uh I'll jus' leave 'em here." He fumbled a bit but managed to pull out the books and set them down on a nearby table. "No need ta make her find me."
"You look like you could use some rest...you can stay here for the night. I have a couch you can sleep on in the back away from the girls."
His face visibly reddened at her suggestion. Even if it wasn't near the girls, just the thought made him uncomfortable. It also brought back bad memories. "N-No... No, thanks," he quickly added. "I uh really should be goin'." He rubbed his bare arms, getting ready to go back into the cold. Thank goodness it wouldn't be a far walk back to his warehouse. He wanted to take back his jacket and shirt from Bookworm... but that didn't seem like it would be possible.

Uh I'll jus' leave 'em here. No need ta make her find me
Ms. Seaton nodded. "Alright thank you. She'll appreciate it you know." She looked down at Bookworm who was sporting Rip's shirt and jacket as a makeshift blanket. "Would you like them back? She has a blanket upstairs."
N-No... No, thanks, I uh really should be goin'.
"At least take one of the blankets with you? No need for you to freeze." Ms. Seaton almost sounded begging as she wished for him to keep warm. She was very maternal and he looked like he would freeze out there.

"Alright thank you. She'll appreciate it you know."
Rip shrugged it off. He was just doing the right thing. No matter how rough and tough he was, he knew that you shouldn't leave a young girl on her own, especially at night.
"Would you like them back? She has a blanket upstairs."
He was slightly surprised but nodded, eager to get his jacket back at least.
"At least take one of the blankets with you? No need for you to freeze."
He immediately scowled as he put on his jacket. "M'fine, Miss," he answered gruffly. "The jacket's fine. Won't freeze... not a far walk from here."
Rip wasn't in the mood for mother-henning. Besides, the last time he had let that happened... it turned out for the worse. He wasn't going to be a charity case again.

Ms. Seaton carefully took Rip's clothes and handed them back to him as best she could.
M'fine, Miss, The jacket's fine. Won't freeze... not a far walk from here.
"You are taking a blanket. Now pick one up and go now. I have to put her in her bunk." Ms. Seaton said as she started up the stairs to put the girl to sleep.

"You are taking a blanket. Now pick one up and go now. I have to put her in her bunk."
Rip raised an eyebrow. She couldn't force him to take one. He merely nodded and bade her a good night as well as apologizing for bothering her so late at night. He was a gentleman after all. If he tried harder, he probably could be as gentlemanly as Spot or perhaps even more so. (Just ask Darcy.) But, he had other things in mind that were more important than being overly gentlemen-like.
