Crackerjack bounced on the back of her heels nervously as she stared up at the lodge. She was here to meet Bronx's leader Sand. After all, they were the only female newsie leaders. She hadn't really thought about it, but she realized it would be good to have Bronx as an ally. She could relate to Sand unlike some of the other leaders and well, they were neighboring boroughs. It would be really really good for the two to team up.
It was just... a little daunting. She had never officially met Sand and wasn't even sure if the leader was at the lodge. She certainly hoped so. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on the door.

Sand had heard the knock on the door and her face twisted in confusion. No one knocked on the door really. Who could be on the other side? Moving quickly to the door, Sand opened it and looked at the girl on the other side. "Can I help you?" She asked still confused and a bit uncertain. She knew it was probably rude the way she responded but her nerves threw manners out the window. All sorts of questions raced through her mind. Who was this girl? Why was she here? Was something going on? If so why was this the first she'd be hearing of it?

Crackerjack took a rather big step back as the door flew open. She hadn't really expected anyone to answer the door. She was a bit flustered as she was greeted by a female newsie.
"Can I help you?"
She bit her lip. "Well, I hope so..." She held out her hand in introduction. "Name's Crackerjack. I'm from Harlem and was hoping to meet the leader here in Bronx?"
It came out more as a question than the firm request she would've liked... Oh well, hopefully she could meet up with Sand and get the ally she needed for her borough.

Well, I hope so...Name's Crackerjack. I'm from Harlem and was hoping to meet the leader here in Bronx?
Sand looked at the girls outstretched hand and she wasn't sure about introducing herself. She still took the girls outstretched hand. "Good ya meet ya." Sand didn't know the girl. She wasn't one of her newsies. From Harlem though? No one from Harlem came over to Bronx really. What was going on...? "Why ya need ta see Sand?" She asked using the girl's lack of knowing her to her advantage for now.

"Good ta meet ya."
Crackerjack gave her a shy grin. "The feeling is mutual."
"Why ya need ta see Sand?"
This question caused her to hesitate and purse her lips. She wasn't sure if she could trust this girl... But if she wanted to be allied with Bronx, she needed to develop some sort of trust with the newsies of Bronx.
"Well," she started slowly. "I was hoping to talk to her about being allies with Harlem. I'm leader over there and I was thinkin' that there would be mutual respect between us since we're the only girl leaders."

The feeling is mutual.
Sand gave a short nod still uncertain about this girl. She would get information first before trusting her.
Well, I was hoping to talk to her about being allies with Harlem.
She raised her brow some listening. Sand hadn't planned on allies but then again....it might not be a bad idea...
I'm leader over there and I was thinkin' that there would be mutual respect between us since we're the only girl leaders
"I dunno. Sand won't do anything if it ain't good for Bronx." She said plainly. "Ya can come in if ya want."

"I dunno. Sand won't do anything if it ain't good for Bronx."
Crackerjack held back a sigh. After all, she could understand the reluctance. If it wasn't beneficial to her, would she want to suddenly ally with another borough? No. But certainly she could convince Sand somehow.
"Ya can come in if ya want."
She brightened some. "Thanks, is she in or will she be around later?"
She wanted to know how much time she had to think of how to show that it would be in Bronx's best interest to have an ally.

Sand moved out of the way and let the girl in. "Yeah. She's around." She moved and curled up in a chair. "Wanna sit? Ya can talk ra me." Sand watched the girl still not certain if she could trust the other girl yet.

"Yeah. She's around. Wanna sit?"
Crackerjack nodded eagerly as she followed Sand and sat across from her. If the leader was just around, then she would have some time to think and plan.
"Ya can talk ta me."
She nodded again. That could work, build some trust. "Well, um. You got any questions for me?" she asked a bit hesitantly. "I know it's gotta be kind of odd for me to be comin' in here all the sudden."

Sand narrowed her eyes a bit and looking at the girl. "It is odd. Especially everything going on with Queens and Brooklyn. Hard ta tell what's really good and what's fake." She explained watching her.

"It is odd. Especially everything going on with Queens and Brooklyn. Hard ta tell what's really good and what's fake."
Crackerjack could understand that, but this was exactly why she felt that she needed an ally. A close one that understood her.
"That's very true, but that is kinda why I am here. With big boroughs like Queens and Brooklyn at odds, small boroughs like Bronx and Harlem don't stand much a chance. Most kids say 'Hattan will side with Brooklyn, 'cause that's what they always do. But what about us?" She shrugged some. "We're not really connected to 'Hattan, at least Harlem ain't. And we're definitely not connected to Queens or Brooklyn. Both Harlem and Bronx are stuck in the middle and surrounded by three big boroughs." She bit her lip. "That's why I came here... the other boroughs don't exactly respect me. My boys back home respect me, but boys outside of Harlem don't really accept me as a leader. Jack is friendly as it goes, but Spot and Rip? Or even Otter? They don't really care for girls leadin'. That's why I want to form a good friendship and possibly ally in Bronx. You got a girl as a leader so you'd certainly understand how Harlem feels and works."
She looked over at Sand expectantly. Would she see where she was getting at?

Sand nodded a bit. That was a good point. They were some of the smaller bouroughs.

She watched Crackerjack. That made sense. Not everyone really respected girl leaders. Her newsies respected her but she hadn't really met any of the other leaders. "Ya made some good points. I'll think about it and see what we can do."

"Ya make some good points."
Crackerjack was beaming. It seemed she had struck a chord with this newsie. She could only hope it would work with Sand.
"I'll think about it and see what we can do."
"I'd really really appreciate it." She grinned. "Just tell Sand that she's welcome to talk ta me at anytime. Harlem is pretty quiet and ain't a far walk."

Sand smiled a bit and looked down. "I ain't gunna need ta talk to her. I'll have ta talk ta some people about this..." she said some sitting up a bit. "I'm Sand by the way. I'll get back ta ya." She stood up. Sand needed to find Blondie. See what he thought. He always had great input.

"I ain't gunna need ta talk to her."
Crackerjack cocked her head in confusing and was about say something but Sand continued.
"I'll have ta talk ta some people about this..."
She pursed her lips and nodded. That was understandable she supposed.
"I'm Sand by the way."
Crackerjack couldn't help but gape at her. She had been Sand this whole time?!
"I'll get back ta ya."
She nodded dumbly, unsure of what to say. She was still rather shocked that all this time she had been speaking to her fellow leader.

Sand held back a small smile. That was a nice face. "Sorry about hiding like that. Ya can't be to careful ya know?" She explained a bit. "Sorry about that again."

"Sorry about hiding like that. Ya can't be to careful ya know?"
Crackerjack nodded. "Yeah yeah... just surprised," she admitted. "I probably would have done the same in your shoes."
"Sorry about that again."
She shook her head. "No need ta apologize. I understand," she assured. "Just keep in touch okay?"

Sand smiled a bit. "Great minds think alike." She said a bit awkwardly. Maybe Blondie would be by. They usually saw each other every day.
No need ta apologize. I understand, Just keep in touch okay?
"Of course." She said after taking a moment to register Crackerjack's words.

She nodded in satisfaction as she stood up to leave. "I hope to be seein' you soon."

That's very true,
Sand smiled a bit. This other leader wasn't too bad.
I hope to be seein' you soon.
"See ya soon." She moved towards the door to walk her out. "You can come here whenever you need."

"See ya soon. You can some here whenever you need."
"Thanks!"
Crackerjack was pleased. Perhaps she hadn't gotten the alliance she wanted at this time, but this was definitely a start in the right direction. And well, it was nice to know that Sand was leaving the door open for them to get to know each other. Girls should to stick together after all.
She felt lighter than when she had arrived, but perhaps she should have watched where she was going...
"Ooof!"

Blondie had just finished selling and had decided to head over to the girls' lodge to check up on Sand. Things had been a bit difficult lately. Brooklyn and Queens were constantly on the mind, and well, the whole borough was feeling a bit restless and uneasy. If they were feeling that way, how much more would Sand be feeling it?
He had just gotten onto the porch when someone bumped into him.
"Ooof!"
"Mph!" He managed to keep himself and the girl from falling. "You okay?"

Sand couldn't even say anything to stop Crackerjack and Blondie from colliding. She managed to barely catch Blondie's sleeve in an attempt to keep him from falling but he had kept both him and Crackerjack up. She moved farther out of the lodge. "Blondie ya alright?" She asked quickly more worried about her friend then the leader that was on her step.

"Mph!"
Crackerjack's breath caught in her throat as she braced herself for a fall that never came. She looked up in surprise.
"You okay?"
She blushed and straightened herself. "I'm fine... thanks," she added shyly. Wow, who knew Bronx had some good-looking newsies?
"Blondie, ya all right?"
Crackerjack raised an eyebrow. So his name was Blondie? She would have to remember that.

"Blondie ya all right?"
He glanced up at Sand and nodded. "Fine."
"I'm fine... thanks."
Blondie nodded, relieved. He was glad he hadn't injured the girl. "No problem, but better try to watch where you're going next time," he advised.
He cocked his head slightly as he studied the newsie in front of him. She didn't seem familiar. Not that he really knew the girls, but he at least recognized their faces and her face was definitely not one he had seen before.
