Tumbler was sitting downstairs, trying to improve his writting skills. The word's looked alright, but the grammar was definitely wrong. "Why is this so hard?" he sighed. But he refused to quit. He wasn't one to give up.

Nickel had just finished selling and thought he would pop in the lodge to see if anyone was in. Not all the boys headed back to the lodge after selling, but it didn’t hurt to check!
”Why is this so hard?”
He cocked his head slightly. Sounded like someone was in. “Hello?” he called out as he headed further into the lodge.
Nickel grinned as he spotted Tumbler working on a piece of paper. “Heya, Tumbler. Whatcha doin’?” he asked curiously, sitting down next to the younger newsie.

“Hello?” Tumbler looked up to see Nickel aproach him. "Heya Nickel"
“Heya, Tumbler. Whatcha doin’?” the older boy asked curiously. "i'am workin' on my writtin' and readin'," Tumbler sighed "mr kloppman said it would be usefull for my future, but i can't get it right."

”Heya, Nickel. I’am workin’ on my writin’ and readin’.”
Nickel nodded as he glanced over the work that Tumbler had started. “I can see that.”
”Mr. Kloppman said it would be useful for my future.”
“He ain’t wrong about that. Bein’ able to read and write is pretty important.”
”But I can’t get it right.”
He cocked his head and picked up one of Tumbler’s papers up. “It seems like you ain’t doin’ too bad.” He gave the paper back to the younger newsie. “Maybe I can help?”
He was a decent reader and could write well. He had snuck into school a couple of times to learn a little to help him out on the streets. After all, street smarts weren’t everything. They could only help you with so much.

“I can see that.” he wasn't even suprised that the older boy could read, being a pickpocket meant you needed to be resourceful. "if i still picked pockets, i could learn so much from him." he thought outloud.
“He ain’t wrong about that. Bein’ able to read and write is pretty important.” Tumbler nodded. "i know, mister Kloppman is great, isn't he?"
“It seems like you ain’t doin’ too bad. Maybe I can help?” "the words are right, the rest is of though." Tumbler said leaning agaist the back of his chair. "if you could, that would be great. thanks Nickel."

”If I still picked pockets, I could learn so much from him.”
Nickel blinked in surprise but then chuckled softly. “I don’t think Kloppman would appreciate me givin’ tips on pick-pocketing.”
”I know, Mr. Kloppman is great, isn’t he?”
He grinned. “He sure is.”
”The words are, the rest is off though.”
Nickel nodded, trying to see if he knew what exactly was off.
”If you could, that would be great. Thanks Nickel.”
He grinned. “No problem.” He looked over the paper again. It looked like he just had a grammar problem. Nickel wasn’t great with grammar, but he knew enough to where he could help Tumbler. “I think you just gotta check on your verbs. Heard a teacher say stuff about that. The words that we can do have all sorts of rules.”

“I don’t think Kloppman would appreciate me givin’ tips on pick-pocketing.” Tumbler laughed "no he definitely wont like that." "those days are behind me though. maybe you've heard of me, i was well known in china town. The Pale Pocket, that's me." he said pointing at himself.
“No problem.” Nickel gave the paper another look. “I think you just gotta check on your verbs. Heard a teacher say stuff about that. The words that we can do have all sorts of rules.” Tumbler looked at the paper, and gave a heavy sigh. "language is hard, but i guess you can't go without it."

”No, he definitely won’t like that. Those days are behind me though.”
Nickel nodded. He could understand that. Pick-pocketing wasn’t exactly the best trade to have, but it wa what he was good at it... so he did what he could.
”Maybe you’ve heard of me, I was well known in Chinatown. The Pale Pocket, that’s me.”
He grinned. “Yeah! I’ve hoid of the Pale Pocket. Neva thought I’d meet ‘im.” He winked at Tumbler. “Hoid a lot about you.”
”Language is hard, but I guess you can’t go without it.”
Nickel nodded. “Yeah, it is real hard.” He shrugged lightly. “But they do say that readin’ helps you write better.”

"alot of people have heard of me, you're the only one knows that its me though, lets keep it that way." Tumbler said grinning wide "only good things i hope. you want a autograph? i dont have on yet, so it will take some time."
“Yeah, it is real hard. But they do say that readin’ helps you write better.” "Thanks for the advice, i think i'll go to S&H Books tomorrow."

”A lot of people have heard of me. You’re the only one that knows its me thought, lets keep it that way.”
Nickel grinned and nodded in understanding. Not everyone wanted to be known by their skills. He could respect that. “My lips are sealed!”
”Only good things I hope.”
He chuckled. “But of course. Only the best about the Pale Pocket.”
”You want an autograph? I don’t have one yet, so it will take some time.”
His grin widened. “Sure, I’d like that. Jus’ lemme know when you got it all sorted out.”
”Thanks for the advice, I think I’ll go to S&H Books tomorrow.”
“Not at all,” Nickel smiled. “Sounds like a great idea. Mrs. Solomona and Miss Hart are real nice. I’m sure they’ll be able ta help ya find some good books.”

“My lips are sealed!” Nickel said. "good, because some of those merchants still want my head."
Nickel gave a chuckle. “But of course. Only the best about the Pale Pocket.” "i'm sure some stories are made up. or exaggerated. was is true, is that i was never caught."
“Sure, I’d like that. Jus’ lemme know when you got it all sorted out.” "okay, i'll get back to you on that."
“Sounds like a great idea. Mrs. Solomona and Miss Hart are real nice. I’m sure they’ll be able ta help ya find some good books.” "good, i'll ask them."

”Good, because some of those merchants still want my head.”
Nickel nodded seriously. He could understand that. There probably quite a few people and cops who would love to catch him too.
”I’m sure some stories are made up. Or exaggerated.”
He shrugged. “Never know. Some times those stories are closer ta the truth that ya think.”
”What is true, is that I was never caught.”
Nickel grinned. “Heh, then you’re one of the best. Not many pick-pockets have never been caught.” He wasn’t one to brag about being one of the few best. He let his reputation speak for him.
”Okay, I’ll get back to you on that.”
His grinned widened. “Now don’t forget about it, ‘kay?”
”Good, I’ll ask them.”
“And there’s always the library if they don’t got the books,” Nickel added.
