“Good... then it’s settled next Friday.”
Lacey nodded. That gave her plenty of time. It would be a lot of fun... If she didn't mess it up.
“Um... I guess we can meet at the docks? I mean... not just for next Friday. I mean... to just talk and um yeah.”
Flashing Spot a crooked grin, Lacey shook her head, "You don't have ta explain everythin', Spot, I get what ya mean. And meetin' at the docks sounds great... whichever day it is."
“Whatever works best for you I mean. If you don’t want to meet at the docks or...”
She had to admit, seeing Spot so flustered was endearing. There was something about how different it was from his confident self that made it cute, for lack of a better word. Surely some time to make himself less terrified would be a good thing, right? Until then, it was probably best that the other newsies didn't start finding out that anything was different.
"The docks, next Friday. And between. I gotcha," She teased with a wink.

”You don’t have ta explain everythin’, Spot, I get what ya mean.”
He gave her a sheepish smile. “Sorry... just not used ta, tal all this I guess.”
”And meetin’ at the docks sounds great... whichever day it is.”
Spot smiled. “All right then. I’ll be lookin’ forward ta seein’ you there.”
”The docks, next Friday. And between. I gotcha.”
He chuckled softly, smiling back at her. “Glad it makes sense ta at least one of us,” he joked.
This wasn’t bad at all. He didn’t know why he had been so nervous. It seemed like Thunder and Jack were right about everything. He just had been a bit too boneheaded about the whole thing. Having a girlfriend didn’t seem so bad anymore.

“Sorry... just not used ta, ta all this I guess.”
Lacey bit back a smile. "I can understand that. I ain't either."
“All right then. I’ll be lookin’ forward ta seein’ you there.”
She nodded curtly.
“Glad it makes sense ta at least one of us.”
Lacey chuckled softly. As long as nothing seriously changed between them, and nothing got worse, then there was nothing for Lacey to worry about. She knew that she would be nervous no matter what, but there was still a bit of comfort that came from knowing that it was with Spot and not someone else. Spot was someone whom she was comfortable around, and that was going to make things much easier than they would be had she not known him so well.
"Me too. Enough sense for me ta kinda hopefully get it." She bit her lip, smiling ever so slightly.

”I can understand that. I ain’t either.”
Spot gave her a slight smirk. “I guess it’s somethin’ we both got ta work on, huh?”
”Me too. Enough sense for me ta kinda hopefully get it.”
He chuckled a bit and rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Another thing I need ta work on, I guess.” He gave her a small smile. “But we’ll make it through this somehow, right?”
His blue eyes searched her hazel ones. This would all work out. Nothing to worry about, right? How hard could it be? After all Thunder and Jack made it out to be the best thing that could happen to a guy and gal.

“I guess it’s somethin’ we both got ta work on, huh?”
Another blush formed on Lacey's cheeks. It wasn't as noticeable as the previous ones, but she could feel it climbing up her cheeks, masked behind the freckles but with no hair to hide it anymore thanks to the new hair ribbon. "Yeah."
“Another thing I need ta work on, I guess.”
It took Lacey a bit more restraint than she would have liked to admit to not burst out laughing at the comedic timing of his words, although she managed to limit herself to a small smile. "I dunno, I think it's kinda funny."
“But we’ll make it through this somehow, right?”
We. The word sent a chill down Lacey's spine. That was going to take some getting used to. It was wonderful.
"We absolutely will," The smile broadened with her words, "No matter how many tries it takes to do things correctly."

”Yeah.”
Spot couldn’t help but smile as Lacey turned a slight pink. It wasn’t extremely noticeable, but he spotted it all the same. It made her look... cute? He bit back a chuckle. He would never have dreamed of calling a girl cute until now.
”I dunno, I think it’s kinda funny.”
“Funny for you, not for me.” He nudged her playfully. “Think about me, okay?”
”We absolutely will. No matter how many tries it takes to do things correctly.”
Spot felt his face flush at her words. We. It was strange... but he liked it. He wasn’t alone in all this. It was ‘we’ now.
“Yeah... no matter how many times.”

“Funny for you, not for me.”
Lacey shrugged, "Your point?" Another teasing grin had formed on her face, laughter wrinkling the corners of her eyes as she sat back in the chair.
“Think about me, okay?”
"Oh, I do." What? Where did that come from? It took a lot of energy for Lacey to continue smiling rather than showing how horrified she was, instead opting to backpedal as quickly as she could. "I am, I mean. Laughter is wonderful. Contagious. That way, if I laugh, then you laugh... It's good for everyone."
“Yeah... no matter how many times.”
Lacey was still feeling as though this had to just be her fever making her hallucinate or something. It had to be something terrible happening to her, just because she had felt so sure for so long that Spot would never feel the same way about her. Now, she felt like one of the other girls who would go flirt with schoolboys to sell their papes quickly. He said 'we,' we're a 'we' now.
However, the fond smile didn't fade from her face. "That sounds pretty perfect ta me."

”Your point?”
Spot raised an eyebrow, knowing she was teasing but a little hesitant to tease back. But this was how it worked, right? You test it and see what happens. “The point is I’m not laughin’.” He nudged her playfully. “We both ought ta be laughin’ if it’s funny.”
”Oh, I do.”
His eyes widened slightly, but he grinned. “If you do think of me, you would also think of my feelings too,” he teased, enjoying this more than he thought he would.
”I am, I mean. Laughter is wonderful. Contagious. That way, if I laugh, then you laugh... It’s good for everyone.”
He couldn’t help but laugh with her. She had pretty good logic. “I guess if you put it that way.”
”That sounds pretty perfect ta me.”
Spot cleared his throat, blushing. “Yeah... it does, doesn’t it?”
Who would have thought a relationship would be like this? Jack was right... he had been missing out.

“The point is I’m not laughin’. We both ought ta be laughin’ if it’s funny.”
Lacey chuckled, "If that's what you're gonna insist on, then I'll go along with that."
“If you do think of me, you would also think of my feelings too."
She grinned. Spot didn't seem too phased by her slip up, which was nice, and it helped her to relax a bit more into the conversation and banter. "Did I hurt your feelings?"
“I guess if you put it that way.”
Lacey grinned triumphantly, shrugging her shoulders. "Well, I've gotta put a positive spin on it or I'll be riskin' hurtin' your feelings."
“Yeah... it does, doesn’t it?”
Spot was blushing. That was the first thing that Lacey noticed. She had seen him blush before, but she had never wanted to relish in it as much as she did in that moment. She began beaming, her gaze dropping momentarily into her lap as she fidgeted with her fingers beneath the table. It might now have been how most relationships went, instead consisting of much more teasing and not much actual confidence in what they were doing, but it felt so incredibly perfect in the moment that Lacey wouldn't have wanted it to change at all.
"Y'know, I'm glad that ya said something..." She suddenly blurted out, her cheeks flushing slightly with embarrassment soon afterwards. "I probably never would've been able ta tell ya... You're real brave."

If that’s what you’re gonna insist on, then I’ll go along with that.”
Spot smirked. “Then yes, I do insist.”
”Did I hurt your feelings?’
He gave her a slight pout. “More like my manly pride,” he joked.
”Well, I’ve gotta put a positive spin on it or I’ll be riskin’ hurtin’ your feelings.”
Spot chuckled. “Manly pride,” he corrected. “Not feelings.”
”Y’know, I’m glad that ya said something...”
He cheeks reddened. “Y-yeah...” He glanced over at her shyly before admitting, “I’m glad too.”
”I probably never would’ve been able ta tell ya... You’re real brave.”
His face flushed more at her complement. “Aw... well. Not really brave. I probably wouldn’t have said anything either. Ya got Jack and Thunder ta thank not me.”

“Then yes, I do insist.”
Lacey rolled her eyes playfully, "Great."
“More like my manly pride."
"Did ya really just call it 'manly pride'?" Lacey couldn't help but snicker, raising her hand to cover her uncontrollable giggles.
“Y-yeah... I’m glad too.”
It really did take a lot of courage to come forward about things like that. She presumed that was why she didn't mind that Spot had been slightly awkward stumbling through it - she had tried to tell him before and she couldn't even get the words out. She couldn't even actually go talk to him.
“Aw... well. Not really brave. I probably wouldn’t have said anything either. Ya got Jack and Thunder ta thank not me.”
"Oh, well, in that case, I'll give them all the credit then, y'know, since they did everything. Thank goodness for them." She chuckled, shaking her head, "Ya still did it, Spot. Jack and Thunder didn't tell me. You did. That's brave."

”Great.”
Spot nudged her once more. “You don’t mind though.”
”Did ya really just call it ‘manly pride’?”
A blush creeped up his neck. “Yes? So what if I did?” But in the end, he was laughing alongside her. Giggles or laughs, they were both contagious.
”Oh, well, in that case, I’ll give them all the credit then, y’know, since they did everything. Thank goodness for them.”
Spot chuckled, shaking his head some.
”Ya still did it, Spot. Jack and Thunder didn’t tell me. You did. That’s brave.”
His lips twitched before settling into a small smile. “Yeah... I guess that is a little brave, huh?”

“You don’t mind though.”
”Are ya really assumin' things like that?” Lacey teased. "But no, I really don't."
“Yes? So what if I did?”
It was nice to have Spot laughing along with her. The overall tone of the conversation had shifted dramatically from the start, and it was nice to see that they could still relax and have fun with one another. At least the whole situation hadn't just made things between them awkward like it very well could have.
“Yeah... I guess that is a little brave, huh?”
Lacey grinned, "Indeed it is."
Moving her chair just a bit closer in to the table, Lacey leaned ever so slightly towards Spot, lowering her voice and putting on a serious expression before speaking. "Have I built your manly pride back up yet?"

”Are ya really assumin’ things like that?”
“But of course,” he teased back.
”But no, I really don’t.”
Spot looked a bit sheepish. “Good.. I was teasin’ though.”
”Indeed it is.”
He smiled back at her. Being brave was taking on a different form. Who would have guessed?
”Have I built your manly pride back up yet?”
Spot had tensed a bit at her serious expression before holding back a chuckle as she whispered in his ear. He poked her. “Not quite. Still more building to do,” he teased.

“But of course."Lacey laughed, "I don't even know why I asked." “Good.. I was teasin’ though.”She smiled, "I know. It doesn't change my reply." “Not quite. Still more building to do.”Lacey's serious expression faltered, giggling slightly as Spot poked her. "Ah, well, I'm not sure I'm gonna get through the job, then. It may be too hard for me." [I'll be back in literally like 15-20 minutes, I just feel the need to say it since there could be a good 3-4 replies in that time I'll be back soon, though. Just getting ice cream with my brother.]

”I don’t even know why I asked.”Spot chuckled. “Curiosity perhaps?” ”I know. It doesn’t change my reply.”He smiled and shrugged. “Just thought I’d say it.” ”Ah well, I’m not sure I’m gonna get through the job, then. It may be too hard for me.”Spot poked her again. “Giving up so soon? It just needs a little itsy bit of building. Not that hard,” he teased. ((Okie doke. I’ll be here waiting. ))

“Curiosity perhaps?”
Lacey scoffed, "Well, you've just got everything figured out, haven't ya?"
“Just thought I’d say it.”
She smiled slightly, "I'm glad that you did. Clarification is good."
“Giving up so soon? It just needs a little itsy bit of building. Not that hard."
Lacey giggled, "Well, unless you've got a suggestion of what I should be doin', I'm gonna say let's leave ya humbled for now, and I'll keep buildin' it up next Friday."
The date. The moment that it entered her mind once again, Lacey was practically exploding with excitement and giddiness all over again. The next Friday couldn't come soon enough in her mind.

”Well, you’ve just got everything figured out, haven’t ya?”
Spot chuckled and shook his head. “Not quite everything,” he replied as he pushed a stray hair way from Lacey’s face.
”I’m glad that you did. Clarification is good.”
He nodded firmly. “It is. I don’t want any misunderstandings between us.”
That was the last thing he wanted. He wanted to always be on the same page as Lacey was.
”Well, unless you’ve got a suggestion of what I should be doin’, I’m gonna say let’s leave ya humbled for now, and I’ll keep buildin’ it up for next Friday.”
Spot gave her another fake pout. “You’re too cruel. I don’t think what is left of my pride can hold out until Friday.”

“Not quite everything."
Spot moving her hair away from her face nearly made Lacey melt on the spot. Her cheeks were suddenly bright red again, the redness shooting back to her ears as her gaze dropped to the table. No one had ever done that before.
“It is. I don’t want any misunderstandings between us.”
"Me either," She confirmed. She liked to think of herself as an honest person, so she figured that explaining everything further if needed to help with misunderstandings wouldn't be a problem at all for her. If Spot wanted to prevent them, then she was more than happy to do her part in that.
“You’re too cruel. I don’t think what is left of my pride can hold out until Friday.”
"Cruel? Ah, well, I was considerin' takin' it back and findin' somethin', but my womanly pride is so wounded from bein' called cruel that I believe I have ta start focusin' on myself." She teased.

Spot reluctantly pulled back his hand from Lacey’s face, ears red. Maybe he shouldn’t have done that... but it felt so right.
”Me either.”
Spot cracked a small smile and nodded. “So whenever something comes up, we just need ta talk it out.”
”Cruel? Ah, well, I was considerin’ takin’ it back and findin’ somethin’, but my womanly pride is so wounded from bein’ called cruel that I believe I have ta start focusin’ on myself.”
He let out a dramatic gasp. “Your womanly pride? Dear me... How could I have injured your womanly pride? How can I ever make it up ta you?”

The sudden loss of the warmth from Spot's hand on her face was something that Lacey missed much more than she thought that she would. She did her best to bite her lip and hide the faint disappointment, but she didn't know how well she was covering it up.
“So whenever something comes up, we just need ta talk it out.”
Lacey nodded curtly, "That's a small price ta pay for keepin' things runnin' smoothly, I say." If it meant a good relationship with Spot, then she would talk all night and day.
“Your womanly pride? Dear me... How could I have injured your womanly pride? How can I ever make it up ta you?”
Giggling at first, Lacey cleared her throat, putting on her best puppy dog face. "Just make it up ta me by puttin' up with me... Somethin' tells me ya might get tired of the commitment after a while." She chuckled a bit.

Spot cocked his head slightly, noting Lacey’s disappointment as he withdrew his hand. He took that as a sign that it was okay for him to push away stray hairs occasionally.
”That’s a small price ta pay for keepin’ things runnin’ smoothly, I say.”
He nodded, smiling. “Glad you see it that way.” It was important to understand what the other was thinking or feeling. If they talked things out, they definitely would know each other’s thoughts and feelings much better.
”Just make it up ta me by puttin’ up with me...”
Spot pursed his lips. “Wellll,” he drawled out his fake hesitation. “I suppose that wouldn’t be too hard ta do.”
”Somethin’ tells me ya might get tired of the commitment after a while.”
He chuckled with her. “Who knows? We can only wait and see, hmm?”
((It’s getting a bit late for me. I’ll probably just do one more reply then head off. It’s been great role-playing with you again! I hope we can do it again soon. I should be on all weekend so I hope to see you around. =) ))

“Glad you see it that way.”Lacey grinned, "Yeah, me too." “Wellll, I suppose that wouldn’t be too hard ta do.”Lacey exhaled slightly. It was nice knowing that Spot was going to want to be with her, in a sense. It was nice knowing that he really did care, and while the whole situation may have seemed simple from the outside, there was a lot running through Lacey's mind because of it. “Who knows? We can only wait and see, hmm?”"Waitin' sounds like a good enough past time for me, if you're up for it." She shrugged. [Yeah absolutely! It's been good getting to do this with you again too! Sleep well. ]

“I definitely am up for it. Together.”
Lacey blushed the moment that Spot took her hand, clearing her throat slightly and suddenly missing her hair being down just so that it could hide her reddened cheeks.
"Together is the only convincing that I need." Her voice was softer, calmer, and her gaze was downcast until she managed to raise her hazel eyes to meet the pair of light blue ones across the table from her. "Together sounds perfect."
[Goodnight!]
