It was getting pretty cold in New York now that December had rolled in. Puppeteer did not like to venture out if Medda did not need him. He would sell in the morning, but after that, he was back in the lodge. Today, he noted that Mr. Kloppman had a Christmas tree set up and boxes of ornaments and other sorts of decorations surrounding the tree. The lodge owner seemed to have run out of time to actually get around to decorating. While the Christmas holiday did sadden him, Puppeteer did not mind helping the lodge owner out by decorating the lodge. It would look nice by the time all the other boys arrived for dinner. He was so focused on placing ornaments that he did not hear someone enter the lodge.

being little and looking cute had his advantages. Tumbler was already done selling.
after putting his earnings underneath his bunk, he headed for the dinning hall. he stopped for a moment, watching Puppeteer hanging up decorations.
"d'ya need any help there, mate?" he asked using his indoor voice.

”D’ya need any help there, mate?”
Puppeteer was startled when he heard someone enter the lodge. He hadn’t expected anyone to be here yet. He was currently standing on a ladder hanging ornaments towards the top of the tree.
He hesitated a moment, not liking speaking but felt it would be rude to give the younger newsie no verbal answer.
“Da,” he answered softly. “I could use... help. Yes, it would be nice.”
He came off the ladder and showed Tumbler a few other boxes of decorations. “I think... those will be good for you.”
Puppeteer did his best to keep his sentences short and simple. He didn’t want to be misunderstood since his English was so poor.

Tumbler's eyes went wide, as he thought the older boy nearly fell from the ladder. “Da,” Puppeteer answered softly. “I could use... help. Yes, it would be nice.”
“I think... those will be good for you.” he said after climbing down the ladder.
Tumbler stood on his toes to look inside the box, it was filled with table decorations. "ya can count on me, mate." he said trying to pick up the fairly light box. it's size however proofed to be a bit to much hay on the younger boy's pitchfork.

”Ya can count on me, mate.”
Puppeteer nodded and was about to go back up on the ladder when he noticed Tumbler trying to pick one of the boxes.
“Ah,” he said softly. “Do... do not pick up boxes. Just open,” he motioned for the younger newsie to open the boxes. “And take decorations. Easier and not heavy.”
His English wasn’t the best, but he knew he could at least give out the main points. Hopefully, the kid would understand.

“Ah, Do... do not pick up boxes. Just open,” Puppeteer motioned for him to open the boxes. “And take decorations. Easier and not heavy.”
Tumbler nodded, picking a few decorations from the box. "when the others come back tonight they can have a great christmas thanks to our hard work." he said walking back and worth decorating the tables. "merry christmas, Puppeteer." he said with a big grin on his face.

”When the others come back tonight, they can have a great Christmas thanks to our hard work.”
Puppeteer smiled softly and nodded. “Da... I think you are right.”
He turned tp finish his decorating and climbed down the ladder to see what else needed to be hung up. There were only a few more decorations. There were a few wreaths to be hung, but none that needed a ladder. He was tall enough to hang up the wreaths on the doors and wall.
”Merry Christmas, Puppeteer.”
He smiled back at the younger newsie. The wide grin on his face was rather catchy. “Merry Christmas, Tumbler.”
