Crutchy had finally sold his 50 papers for the day. He stretches before starting to walk down one of the paths, not only to find a new spot in the park, but to also wanting to take in the scenery. He stands under a tree several yards away from where he was standing originally and sighs, wishing he had someone to talk to, before sitting down, laying his crutch over his lap. He takes his old pocket knife and an unfinished carving he's been working on (a dog this time) and begins to work on it.

After selling, there was nothing like a walk through the park. A walk always helped take her mind off the difficulties of the day. Pepper hummed softly to herself as she wandered through the park. She didn't really have a set place she was walking to. She was just walking. The weather was cooling off after a long summer so the walk was really nice.

Crutchy leans against the tree he's sitting under before looking up at the leaves. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a girl with strawberry blonde hair heading down the path. He puts away his carving and flips the pocketknife blade back, placing it in his pocket. He grabs his crutch and props it next to him before using a low tree branch to hop up onto his good leg. He grabs his crutch, tucking it under his arm before taking a moment to make sure he has his balance.

Pepper hadn't been walking long when she spotted someone sitting under one of the trees by the path. She couldn't tell who it was at first, but as she got closer she recognized the newsie.
"Hullo, Crutchy," she called out cheerfully as he got up. "Sellin' go good?

"Hullo, Crutchy." Crutchy looks up and smiles, walking over to the strawberry blonde girl. "Hullo, Pepper." "Sellin' go good?" "Oh, definitely. Got my fifty sold faster than I usually do! So uh, how 'bout you? Did your sellin' go good?"

Pepper nodded, glad that the other newsie had a good selling day.
"I just finished so I think I did pretty good. Thought I'd go for a walk." She gave Crutchy another smile. She was in a good mood since the day had gone so well. "What brings you ta the park?"

"I just finished so I think I did pretty good. Thought I'd go for a walk." Crutchy nods. "A walk's always good t'kinda relax." "What brings you ta the park?" "Uh, well.. I was sellin' papes, and I was near the entrance, so I decided ta take a bit of a walk, y'know? Does good to uh... clear my head." He uses his free hand to rub the back of his head in a slightly nervous fashion.

Pepper smiled. "Yeah. It is pretty relaxin'."
She nodded in understanding. "Mhmm. That's kinda why I'm goin' on a walk. Clear my head. Sellin' can get a little hard, ya know?"
She stretched a bit. "The park is the best place ta clear your head."

"Mhmm. That's kinda why I'm goin' on a walk. Clear my head. Sellin' can get a little hard, ya know?" Crutchy hums and nods. "Oh, yeah. Def'nitely. It gets hard, especially when ya've been to almost ev'ry good spot in Manhattan." "The park is the best place ta clear your head." "I love comin' here. I don't get ta often, but when I do, I love it."

Pepper's eyes widened some. "Wow. You've been to every good spot in 'Hattan?"
She wasn't extremely adventurous when it came to selling spots. She probably could find a new spot, but she just didn't feel confident enough to move to new territory just yet.
She nodded in agreement. "The park is great. It'd be nice if we could come here more often that we do."

"Wow. You've been to every good spot in 'Hattan?" "Well, probably not all of 'em, but I keep movin'. There's a lotta fake crips on the streets, and I don't wanna have a bum day 'cause folks are gettin' suspicious." He sighs, looking down. "The park is great. It'd be nice if we could come here more often that we do." Crutchy nods, looking around at the park.

Pepper pursed her lips and glanced down. She sometimes forgot how hard Crutchy had it. She clenched her fists at the thought that Crutchy had it hard because of fakes and liars.
"They shouldn't get away with lyin' about being crips." She scowled. "I'd soak 'em all if I could."
Her scowl faded to a small smile as Crutchy looked around the park. "It's one of the best places in 'Hattan, ain't it?"

"They shouldn't get away with lyin' about being crips. I'd soak 'em all if I could." Crutchy frowns, shrugging. "Well, they're jus' tryin' ta sell. I get why they do it, I'm jus' sayin'... Can be hard for someone like me these days." "It's one of the best places in 'Hattan, ain't it?" "Ya can say that again, Pepper." He gives a small smile.

Pepper frowned and shook her head. “Still it ain’t right to pull stunts like that. Actin sick is fine. Everyone gets sick at one time or another. But not everyone has it like you. It ain’t right for them to pretend like that and make it rough for you.”
She grinned. “It’s the best,” she reaffirmed. “There ain’t no park like Central.”

I wouldn't mind if it didn' affect my sellin' as much." “It’s the best. There ain’t no park like Central.” Crutchy grins. "Oh, yeah. Then again, I ain't been ta any othah park than Central..."

Pepper sighed. “Yeah... I get that too. Jus’ wished they didn’t do it so you could sell like everyone else.”
She laughed softly. “Well I haven’t really been ta any other parks either.” She looked up thoughtfully. “Yeah. I think I’ve only been to one of the parks in Harlem and that’s it. But I really don’t think any park could beat Central.”
She stretched a bit. “You plannin’ on spending the rest of the day here?” she asked curiously.
She was thinking about staying at the park until it was time to go back to the lodge, but then she kinda wanted to go to the library or bookstore.

“Yeah... I get that too. Jus’ wished they didn’t do it so you could sell like everyone else.” "Thank you for thinkin' so." “You plannin’ on spending the rest of the day here?” "I was thinkin' 'bout it... I was also thinkin' about lookin' for a new spot for tomorrow."

Pepper shook her head, smiling. "No need ta thank me. It's the right thing ta do and think."
She cocked her head. "A new spot? Now?"
It was getting late. She wasn't sure if Crutchy would be able to find a spot at this time of day. It wouldn't be easy to figure out if people would pass by the spot he picked. But then again, she tapped her chin thoughtfully. There was the evening edition. Maybe Crutchy could watch them and find a good spot?
"Mind if I join you?"
She was curious to see what selling in the evening was like, and she wanted to help her friend.

"No need ta thank me. It's the right thing ta do and think." Crutchy gives her a lopsided smile. "A new spot? Now?" "Well, the guys with the evenin' pape should have some good tracks, right? I was thinkin' of watchin' 'em at some point... why not now?" "Mind if I join you?" "Of course I don't mind. You're good company." Crutchy smiles again before readjusting himself.

Pepper nodded in agreement. She had momentarily forgotten that some of the boys sold the evening edition. They were sure to know good selling spots.
"Yeah they probably do. It's a good idea."
She grinned. "Thanks. You're pretty good company too."
She enjoyed spending time with Crutchy. He was a sweet guy and was fun to be around. He always had a positive attitude. That's what she liked about him.

Pepper grinned. "Let's!"
She was eager to see what it was like selling in the evening. "Where should we start? Near the distribution center?"
Maybe they could watch as the boys bought their papes and headed off. Or maybe the'd get lucky and bump into someone while they made their way out of the park.

"We could head to the distribution center... That sounds good." He smiles again.

Pepper nodded. “Yeah sounds like the best thing ta do.”
She walked beside him, dong her best not to walk too fast. She was eager to get going but didn’t want to rush her friend.
“Have you ever thought about sellin’ in the evenin’?” she asked curiously. “I kinda thought about it but it’s a lot of work to sell in the morning and the evening. And it would be weird to just sell evening and not the morning.”

“Yeah sounds like the best thing ta do.” Crutchy quickly makes it beside her. Matching her pace was slightly easy. “Have you ever thought about sellin’ in the evenin’? I kinda thought about it but it’s a lot of work to sell in the morning and the evening. And it would be weird to just sell evening and not the morning.” "I thought about sellin' in the evenin', but it would be hard to balance both.
