Piper had liked Brooklyn but not enough to stay too long. There was a strange tension in the Brooklyn air. If he believed the rumors, it was probably the old feud with Queens that made it so tense. It was probably a good thing he had gone to sell in Harlem and not Queens. Getting soaked was a not a good way to start a selling day. Not a lot of people felt sorry for a beat-up newsie. So Harlem it was. It was one of the more quitter boroughs which made it easy to just slip in line to buy papes. It was just another ordinary selling day. Or was it?
