"I'd give my life for him. In a heartbeat. What is it?"
It hurt honestly. To see how much she was willing to do to keep Rip from hurting Spot. He admired her will. He wished he could give her the answer she desired. The object of Rip's revenge... but it was impossible. He hated to crush her spirit. But she needed to understand why it was so hard to keep Rip from abandoning his revenge.
"She's dead."

"She's dead."
Her heart dropped into her stomach. Who was dead? Did he mean Darcy? Or was it someone else?
"Wh-who?" She managed. If it was Darcy... surely she could find a way to give Rip back what he wanted. But at what cost? Would Spot ever forgive her for doing such a thing?

"Who-who?"
Ace sighed. "His cousin."
He didn't really want to go into further detail. That was Rip's more private side that he did not feel like discussing. Right now, he had given Lacey what he could.
"If... if I hear anything from Rip, I'll let you know," he added quietly.

"His cousin."
Lacey swallowed thickly. It was obvious that she wasn't going to get much more information than that, but her heart was aching knowing that there was nothing that she could do. Rip was going to attack Spot, and while she could try to fight against him... she was nothing compared to him.
"If... if I hear anything from Rip, I'll let you know,"
It was an incredibly tough pill to swallow, but Lacey nodded slowly. She was desperate, but there was nothing that she could do. She was helpless once again. "Thanks." She choked out.

"Thanks."
"I'm sorry..." That was all he could say at the moment. He wasn't of much help... Rip hadn't told him anything, so he didn't really have any way of knowing what he was up to.
Ace bit his lip. "He will be busy the next couple of weeks... so I don't think he'd try anything until he was free."
It wasn't much comfort, he knew, but it would let her know that things would be calm for a little longer.

"I'm sorry..."
It sucked. It hurt so much, but she really was doing her best not to let it show on her face. "It's... it's fine." She inhaled deeply, though her breath trembled as she quickly bit her lip in an attempt to collect herself. She couldn't cry now. Not again.
"He will be busy the next couple of weeks... so I don't think he'd try anything until he was free."
Lacey nodded a bit. "Yeah... that's good."
Perhaps it would do nothing at all, but Lacey wasn't going to stop trying to get Rip to leave Spot alone... no matter what price she had to pay for it.

"It's fine... it's fine."
"It's not fine... you an' me both know that..." He offered her a handkerchief. "It's okay ta cry... I know it hurts, not being able to protect someone you care about."
"Yeah... that's good."
Ace gave her a small smile. "Yeah... not much, but it's something." As if he could sense her determination, though he really didn't know what was going through her head, he warned her. "I know you care a lot about Spot. But don't try to cross paths with Rip. He's," Ace hesitated. "He's a good guy... but on his bad side, it ain't good. Especially if he knows your connected to Spot. It'd be a repeat of Trix--" No, he shouldn't bring that up!

"It's not fine... you an' me both know that..."
Of course, in a way he was right, but Lacey didn't want to admit it. She didn't want to admit that there was nothing that she could do to help Spot. She didn't want to admit that all that she could do was sit and wait for Rip to attack him, and know that there was a high chance that only one of them would walk out of that fight alive.
"It's okay ta cry... I know it hurts, not being able to protect someone you care about."
She hesitated when it came to taking the handkerchief from him, but only because she knew that the moment that she cried would be the moment when she couldn't stop. "I don't wanna lose him." She managed, but the tears began falling almost instantly after she finished speaking. Carefully, she took the handkerchief to wipe them away.
"Yeah... not much, but it's something."
Lacey nodded a bit, still struggling to keep herself held together, though she was rapidly failing.
"I know you care a lot about Spot. But don't try to cross paths with Rip."
Everyone told her the same thing. While they might have thought that they were helping, every time that she would get told something like that was just another moment where she seemed to become more determined to find something that no one else had thought of.
"If I went to Rip... h-he could have me instead. That could hurt Spot... but he would recover. He would be able to recover, no one would have to fight."
"He's a good guy... but on his bad side, it ain't good. Especially if he knows your connected to Spot. It'd be a repeat of Trix--"
Lacey didn't know the full story of Darcy. She only knew bits and pieces, but everyone always seemed to bring it up as though something terrible had happened. "What happened with Dar-- or, uh, Trixie?"

"I don't wanna lose him."
He gave her a small smile. "I know..."
No one else should die. Somehow, he would stop Rip from this madness.
"If I went to Rip... h-he could have me instead. That could hurt Spot... but he would recover. He would be able to recover, no one would have to fight."
Ace's eyes widened. "No. That's one thing you shouldn't, mustn't... just don't do that. You'd kill Spot in the inside... and Rip would never come back..."
"What happened with Darc--or, uh, Trixie?"
He almost cursed aloud. A bad habit he had picked up from Rip and a few other old friends. But it seemed as if Lacey knew about Darcy's other name... "Spot's cousin. Dated Rip for a bit... stuff went a bit... south with Spot." He sighed. "Rip liked her but he knew he could use her to get to Spot."
He really didn't want to talk more about it than he had to. Rip had made some hasty decisions back in the day... and Darcy? Well, she certainly didn't help things go smoother.

"I know..."
Lacey felt so stupid, crying in front of a relative stranger. She barely knew anything about this guy, but she was breaking down.
"No. That's one thing you shouldn't, mustn't... just don't do that. You'd kill Spot in the inside... and Rip would never come back..."
She groaned a bit, wiping her eyes with her sleeve once again. "I don't know how to save him. I don't know what to do, he can't die. I have to help him."
"Spot's cousin. Dated Rip for a bit... stuff went a bit... south with Spot. Rip liked her but he knew he could use her to get to Spot."
Lacey bit her lip, sniffling a bit. "Why does Rip hate Spot so much? Why does he want to kill him?"

"I don't know how to save him. I don't know what to do, he can't die. I have to help him."
Ace sighed, understanding her frustration all too well. "I know... but somethings are just not in our power to do."
It was a hard lesson to learn, but that was life, never easy.
"Why does Rip hate Spot so much? Why does he want to kill him?"
He hesitated. This girl really cared for Spot. If he told her the reason, it would be painful. She might not even believe him. But the truth had to be told sooner or later.
"You won't like it..." he warned. "You might not even believe it."

"I know... but some things are just not in our power to do."
It was a horrible thing to learn in a horrible way, but what else could she do? She was in a situation where all that she could do was wait for the person that she loved to be attacked and possibly killed.
"You won't like it... You might not even believe it."
His words made her heart sink a bit. What could he possibly have done that was so bad? "Tell me." She whispered.

”Tell me.”
Ace wouldn’t refuse her request... he just hoped it wouldn’t damage her... too much.
“Blood for blood... Rip wants Spot dead because Spot killed his cousin.”
And he would know... he had seen it unfold befor his eyes, and he hadn’t been able to do anything. Everything had been so chaotic that night. Borough wars and gang wars... it had been a bloody night that he never wanted to live through again.

“Blood for blood... Rip wants Spot dead because Spot killed his cousin.”
For a moment, Lacey swore that her world had stopped. She stood there in silence, staring back at him, figuring that she had somehow managed to mishear him. However, the grave expression on his face said it all, and horror was the next thing to set in. Spot had killed someone? Her Spot?
"B-But... he wouldn't do something like that." Her voice was weak, and she didn't believe herself. Spot didn't seem like that kind of person... but he had never talked to her about anything with Darcy or Rip. This had to be part of the reason.
Running her fingers through her hair, she felt sick. The world seemed fuzzy and her head hurt. "I have to go find Spot." She choked out, tears falling once again as she turned and made a break for Manhattan.

"B-But... he wouldn't do something like that."
Ace didn’t blame her for not believing... but he had to tell the truth.
"I have to go find Spot."
He wanted to say something to her, but he had no words to give her. And she, was already gone. He hoped that this wouldn’t bring more trouble between Queens and Brooklyn.
