It all felt so wrong to Lacey. She still could barely believe what Ace had told her. It made her feel sick to her stomach knowing that Spot could be capable of something like that. He had always seemed gruff, yes, but never to the point where he would be capable of killing someone. She couldn't believe it.
So, waiting for him where they had agreed by the edge of the bridge, Lacey had no choice but to confront him.

Spot felt pretty good about his day. He had been able to talk to Jack about the border meeting and then went to talk to Thunder about Darcy’s return. Thunder has sided on caution, but he agreed to come over to Hattan to check and see about getting in touch with Darcy. After all, she was his cousin too. His good feelings, however, faded as he saw Lacey waiting for him at the bridge.
The expression on her face and her tear stained face told him something was dreadfully wrong.
“What happened? You okay?”

“What happened? You okay?”
When Lacey heard Spot's voice, there was another pang in her chest. Was that really the voice of a murderer? Was Spot really a murderer?
"You lied to me. You lied to me about everything with Rip, you made it sound like he was the horrible one in the situation." She was emotional, and that wasn't going to end well. "You never told me anything but what would make you look best."

”You lied to me.”
Spot felt his heart skip a beat. What was she talking about? He hadn’t lied about anything... at least, not to his knowledge! “What are you talkin’ about?”
” You lied to me about everything with Rip, you made it sound like he was the horrible one in the situation."
He was confused and angry now. Why was she suddenly bringing up Rip? They were supposed to be talking about Darcy. This seemed to mean she had gone to Queens against his strong opposition to her doing so. Hadn’t she promised not to do that again? “I never lied about Rip. He’s dangerous,”
”You never told me anything but what would make you look best."
Spot’s face hardened. “So that’s what you really think of me? That I’d lie about somethin’ serious like this just ya make me look good? I ain’t that kind of guy, I told you the truth about Rip. He’s out for blood for me and Brooklyn. I ain’t got any reason to lie.”

“What are you talkin’ about?”
Lacey was getting worked up. She was scared, she was confused, and she was upset. "You killed someone, Spot. You never thought to tell me something like this, like it wouldn't be a big deal?"
“I never lied about Rip. He’s dangerous.”
Tears were falling from her eyes again, and she could feel herself shaking. She didn't know if it was because of the cold or because of all of the emotions that were flooding over her, but she didn't feel good at all.
“So that’s what you really think of me? That I’d lie about somethin’ serious like this just ya make me look good?"
"Then why did you not tell me? Why did you leave me in the dark as to why he hated you so much?" She whimpered.
"I ain’t that kind of guy, I told you the truth about Rip. He’s out for blood for me and Brooklyn. I ain’t got any reason to lie.”
Lacey felt sick. Her vision was fuzzy and her chest felt tight as a lump seemed to catch in her throat. "I would have done anything for you, Spot. I was going to give up everything to make sure that you were safe because I love you. But you're a murderer. How could you not tell me that?"

"You killed someone, Spot. You never thought to tell me something like this, like it wouldn't be a big deal?"
Spot stared at her. Where had she heard this? He had no idea who would say something like this out him. He had never killed anyone... he had injured someone badly. But he hadn’t killed the kid, had he? He didn’t mean to injure anyone that badly, but at the time, it had been kill or be killed. Though, Spot was pretty sure he had let killed anyone. Dragon, the previous leader, might have...but he hadn’t, right?
“I’ve never killed anybody.”
He was hurt now. How could she think he would kill someone? He never...
"Then why did you not tell me? Why did you leave me in the dark as to why he hated you so much?"
“I didn’t tell you nothin because I wanted you ya stay out of this business. I didn’t want a rerun of what happened ta Darcy.”
His cousin had also wanted to know why Queens was at odds with Brooklyn. That was how she got all caught up with Rip and made a mess of things... and caused so much pain. It was also partially how Spot had discovered some of the reasons behin why Rip hated him. He still didn’t quite have the full picture, but he knew it had to do with the past when he had been a bird in spying in Queens.
"I would have done anything for you, Spot. I was going to give up everything to make sure that you were safe because I love you. But you're a murderer. How could you not tell me that?"
Spot clenched his fists. He did not like being accused of something he never did. “I’m not a murdered. I don’t know who told you that, but they’re wrong.”

“I’ve never killed anybody.”
That stung. Sure, she wasn't entirely sure if she could trust the guy who was friends with Rip, but if that was the reason why all of this had started, then it seemed to make sense. But did that mean that Spot was lying to her?
“I didn’t tell you nothin because I wanted you ya stay out of this business. I didn’t want a rerun of what happened ta Darcy.”
"I'm not your cousin, Spot, I'm your girlfriend! I love you, you can't keep huge things like this a secret from me!" Her words were harsh, but they came out as more of a whimper than anything else.
“I’m not a murderer. I don’t know who told you that, but they’re wrong.”
"Stop it," Lacey closed her eyes tightly, wiping at them with her sleeves, "Please stop. Stop lying to me, just tell me the truth."

"I'm not your cousin, Spot, I'm your girlfriend! I love you, you can't keep huge things like this a secret from me!"
Spot had barely registered her words. He was angry and hurt. How could she accuse him of lying? Of killing someone? "That's exactly why I don't want the same thing happenin' again! Because I..." He was going to say 'I love you,' but now... he wondered if it were true anymore. If this was what she thought of him, was it really love anymore?
"Stop it. Please stop. Stop lying to me, just tell me the truth."
He set his lips in a firm line. "I've never lied to you."
Everything he had told her was true. Yes, he hadn't told her everything that had gone on in the past, but that didn't mean he had lied. Talk about the past was something Spot never cared to do, even with the people he trusted. The only ones that really knew about all that happened were him and Dragon, but even then... Spot wasn't sure about all that had gone on that night. It had all happened so fast. Everything had been so chaotic, and as a bird, he didn't think it was right to question his leader about some of the things that had happened that night. He might have let something slip to Jack and Thunder (and nosey Darcy), but other than that, Spot had stayed silent about those dark days. The only time he really opened up about things was when Rip had attacked and almost killed him that fateful night that Darcy had been apart of. Jack probably knew everything now and connected dots about those two nights. However, Spot was still unaware of these things. He never doubted his leader's words. Jack had always been slightly uneasy around Dragon and been more than supporting when Spot took leadership of Brooklyn. The Manhattan leader always felt something off about the previous Brooklyn leader but never could figure out what it was. And well, asking Spot would result in a soaking. Spot stood by Dragon even if he wasn't leader anymore.

"That's exactly why I don't want the same thing happenin' again! Because I..."
There was another pang in her chest. It was obvious right away where he had been planning to go with it, but once again, he seemed reluctant to say it. This time, however, it didn't feel like it was just too soon and he was nervous. It felt like she had lost him all at once, and that killed her inside.
"You don't love me?" Her voice lowered to a whisper.
"I've never lied to you."
What had she done? She had risked everything to try and help, but it seemed as though now, everything was gone. Everything had been ruined. She didn't know what to do. Her heart ached, but what could she say? She had said too much already.
"I'm sorry." She mumbled again, wasting no time in turning and bolting across the bridge.

"You don't love me?"
So it seemed as if she had known what he had been about to say. And now that she asked it, he ought to answer. Truth be told, he knew what the answer was, but wasn't sure if he wanted to say it. Being accused of murdering and lying... that did alot of damage to a relationship.
""I didn't say that," was the only thing he could reply. He still loved her... at least, he was pretty sure he did. Wasn't that why he was hurting to much? Because someone he loved, betrayed him like this? But he couldn't say it out loud. Not at a time like this.
"I'm sorry."
Part of Spot wanted to run after her, but the other half seemed stuck in place. Even if he really wanted too, it seemed as if he couldn't move. It was all so shocking... Where had Lacey gotten all these accusations from?
He wasn't sure where to begin, but one thing was certain, he wasn't going back to Brooklyn tonight. He needed answers first.

"I didn't say that,"
Lacey swallowed thickly. "Yes, you did." Maybe he hadn't said it out loud, but it stung more than anything else to stand there looking at him and know that this could really be the end of things. And all over something that a relative stranger had told her.
The trip to Brooklyn was short and sweet, with Lacey never slowing down until the girl's lodge had finally come into sight. She didn't waste time in heading inside to turn in for the night... the next day, she had to go back to Queens and find him again.

"Yes, you did."
Actions spoke louder than words, or so the saying went. Perhaps Spot should have said something, or maybe Lacey shouldn't have made assumptions. Either way, both had probably made bad decisions in the heat of the moment and couldn't take what was said or wasn't said back. Things had changed drastically between the two.
Spot watched Lacey disappear across the bridge, out of his sight. He had alot of searching to do, and right now, Manhattan seemed to be the best place to start. If he was lucky, maybe Jack hadn't headed to Queens just yet.
