"Spot..."
The step towards him gave him hope. Maybe she wouldn't leave. This was the chance that she would stay.
"I just thought..."
"You thought what?" he asked softly. "Leavin' would fix things? It doesn't. Leavin' won't fix things. It won't make me happy."

"You thought what? Leavin' would fix things?"
Lacey bit her lip. Her heart was aching. But could she really stay?
"It doesn't. Leavin' won't fix things. It won't make me happy."
Her arms slung tightly around his body, face burying itself into the crook of his neck and fingers grasping at the material of his coat. "I don't wanna lose you."

"I don't wanna lose you."
Spot held her tight, his heart feeling relieved for the first time in what felt like a long time. "You won't lose me," he whispered. "Not if you stay."

"You won't lose me. Not if you stay."
A huge weight seemed to be lifted off of Lacey's shoulders upon hearing that, her grip on him tightening a bit.
"Then I'll stay for you."

"Then I'll stay for you."
Those simple words gave a wave of relief over Spot. His plans for that day were forgotten, maybe even for good. Right now, he had been able to keep his girl from leaving and that's all that mattered.
"Good... good."

"Good... good."
Slowly pulling back from the embrace, Lacey cleared her throat while her fingers moved back up to graze his cheek once again. "Please don't leave me now."

"Please don't leave me now."
Spot watched her and shook his head slowly. "I won't leave. I won't ever leave ya," he promised.
He didn't want to, not anymore. Not when he knew where he stood.

"I won't leave. I won't ever leave ya,"
Her gaze dropped with a soft sigh. She wasn't sure where they were in terms of their relationship, but at least now she knew that she wasn't hated in the way that she had thought that she would be. She had thought that she would lose him... and now she didn't have to be afraid of that.
"I love ya... even when I do stupid things, I really do. And I messed up by accusin' you of things, and I'm sorry. That was my fault." Lacey was hoping that perhaps apologizing would just be the best way to go about things... but she didn't know if it would help.

"I love ya... even when I do stupid things, I really do. And I messed up by accusin' you of things, and I'm sorry. That was my fault."
Spot shook his head and placed a finger to her lips. "It's fine..." It wasn't exactly fine, but that wasn't the point. He didn't want to dwell on the past anymore. He did that too much already. What mattered now? Well, what mattered was that Lacey was here and she wasn't leaving him. "Don't worry about the past... we'll forget about all that." After all, emotions had been high and kept them from seeing straight.

"It's fine..."
The finger pressed against her lips surprised her a bit, but she fell silent regardless.
"Don't worry about the past... we'll forget about all that."
It was more than likely going to be something that was easier said than done, but if he was willing to work to put the past behind them, then she was, too. She responded with a slow nod, swallowing thickly.

Spot stayed silent as the two just stood there by the docks. This had been another bump in their relationship... but they shouldn't have expected it to be easy. After all, Spot was in a position of leadership. There would be times when he made decisions that they would disagree on. He had wanted to protect her, and she had just wanted to help. Perhaps all this might not have happened if both had been willing to compromise or open up to each other about things. But it was all in the past now, they needed to learn from their mistakes and trust each other enough to share the private things that scared them. Perhaps this was the start of something beautiful.

To say that Lacey was relieved that she had talked to Spot rather than just running would have been a massive understatement. What had started off as an awkward conversation with a stranger had undoubtedly led her into making a choice that could have easily ruined her life if she had gone the other direction with it. Had she just been told to talk to him rather than writing the note, it was likely that she just would have vanished. Now, they would have a chance to try repairing the damage that had been done, and like people always said, they could come back stronger.
