”You got this far... you can do it.”
Lacey was still slow to approach Spot, finally making it to the spot beside him and clearing her throat. “Is, uh... this seat taken?”

“Is, uh... this seat taken?”
While Spot had heard someone on the back steps to the roof, he hadn't really expected anyone to join him. He was surprised that someone had come onto the roof, but he was even more surprised to see who it was that was joining him.
He just shook his head and motioned that it was okay for her to sit down.

Lacey took a seat beside Spot, contemplating just sitting there for a while in silence instead of talking. What did she have to lose now?
“Spot?” She whispered.

"Spot?"
He glanced over her, hands folded on his knee. He wasn't sure what to expect anymore. "Yeah?"

”Yeah?”
Lacey sighed shakily. “When you step down... are we done?”
Perhaps it wasn’t the smoothest way to go about it, but Lacey had already forgotten most of her conversation with Cloud.

“When you step down... are we done?”
Well, that was definitely now what he thought Lacey would be asking him. He cleared his throat. "Are we done what?"
Spot knew that he probably knew what she was referring to, but it was always good to be sure.

”Are we done what?”
Lacey sighed softly. Of course.
“Are we done being together, Spot.” She murmured. “Am I losing you?”

“Are we done being together, Spot.”
Spot pursed his lips slightly. So his assumption had been right.
"Am I losing you?"
He cleared his throat. "Just because I'm steppin' down... doesn't mean we are done."
Things could change for the better once he stepped down. There was just so much going on right now, that he was struggling with his relationship with Lacey. If he could get his newsie life straightened out... maybe things would end up being okay.

"Just because I'm steppin' down... doesn't mean we are done."
As much as there was a wave of relief that washed over Lacey, she still couldn't help but be slightly on edge. There was so much swirling around in her mind that it made it hard to think entirely straight.
"I'm scared ta be without ya, Spot. I'm really, really scared for the future." She whispered.

"I'm scared ta be without ya, Spot. I'm really, really scared for the future."
Spot wasn't sure what to say in return. He couldn't comfort her, but he couldn't say that it wouldn't be all right either. He had no idea what the future held. Would they stay together or go their separate ways? The future was blurry and all confused. And as Lacey said, the future was scary.
He licked his suddenly dry lips. "We won't know until it happens."

"We won't know until it happens."
She let out another small sigh. It was the truth, albeit a harsh one, and one that Lacey really wasn't sure that she was ready to face. But what else could they do? The only other choice would be to give up earlier, and that seemed even worse.
Turning her gaze forward once more, she chose to watch the sun setting in silence instead.

There was silence after Lacey's soft sigh, and Spot didn't feel like breaking it. So much had happened in so little time... he was still trying to catch up with it all. There really weren't any words that were coming to mind to say out loud, so he remained silent alongside Lacey as they watched the sun set over Brooklyn.

At some point when the sun was beginning to vanish behind the skyline of the city, Lacey ended up moving just a bit closer to Spot, head resting comfortably against his shoulder. There were a few more moments of silence before she spoke one more time. "I love you, alright? No matter what."

"I love you, alright? No matter what."
The sudden break of silence caught him off guard along with the words spoken. He wasn't sure what to say. Her words were so touching... The only thing he could really do in response was to hold her hand and give it a gentle squeeze.

Lacey let out a soft sigh at the silent response, yet it was somehow comforting nonetheless. Everything was changing, but it seemed as though this one thing perhaps wouldn’t have to. All that she could do for now was hope.

Spot cleared his throat in an attempt to break the silence. There wasn't anything he really could say right now. Things were changing, and he didn't really know what was in store for them in the future. All they could do was hope... and well, there were some things he needed to get done.
"We... probably should head out."
It wasn't getting extremely late, but the two of them probably should consider getting some dinner and doing whatever they needed to get done before it got too late.

”We... should probably head out.”
Lacey cleared her throat, slowly nodding in agreement. A part of her was just grateful for the silence to end. “Yeah... we should.”

"Yeah... we should."
Spot stood up, waiting for Lacey to do so as well. "Shall I walk you ta the lodge?" he offered.
Unless she had other plans, he was willing to walk her wherever she needed to go before he finished up doing some leader business.

"Shall I walk you ta the lodge?"
Lacey bit her lip, slowly dragging herself back to her feet. Going back to the lodge was probably best, but she didn't want to force Spot to walk her if he had other things that he should have been doing. It wouldn't be good for him to be out too late.
"Aren't ya busy?" She raised an eyebrow a bit.

"Aren't ya busy?"
Spot shrugged. "Sorta... the lodge is on my way."
It wasn't a big deal if he took some time to walk to the girls' lodge. After all, it wasn't out of the way from where he had been planning on heading anyways.

"Sorta... the lodge is on my way."
She bit her lip. Lacey couldn't tell whether he was lying or not, but he didn't really seem to have a reason to, so she responded with a small nod. "Yeah... that'd be nice. Thanks."

"Yeah... that'd be nice. Thanks."
Spot gave her a small nod and offered his hand. Sadly, this would probably be one of their last walks for some time. After the leader meeting, he would be busy with Bridges and preparing Brooklyn for the change, that walks like this probably wouldn't be able to happen.

Slowly, Lacey took his hand, beginning to walk beside him in silence. She was going to miss times like this, knowing that there would be much fewer of them with him moving onto the rest of his life, and her being forced to do the same soon enough. She just hoped that things could continue regardless.

Spot was secretly glad the walk was a long one. It seemed a shame not to make this last as long as possible. Who knew when they would be able to walk like this again? Or if ever? He hoped it wouldn't be like that. But only time would tell as things changed. Spot had a lot more to do now, and time spent on his own thing just wasn't available.

It was tough, knowing that everything was changing. Lacey didn't fully want to be an adult, knowing that it was just going to make things more complicated to give up the newsie life. Where would she live? Where would she work? Would she even stay in Brooklyn? She just didn't know.
Casting a glance over at Spot, she let another sad sigh, but she didn't want to say something about how melancholic the walk itself felt. Both of them were well aware of that fact, she was sure.
