Spot had decided to sell by the park. It wasn't one of his usual selling spots. He thought it was a good spot to sell since not many of the other boys were around. He really didn't want to talk to any of his boys. He was already antsy enough as it was. Today was the day he was going to talk to Jack about Rip. He tried his best to concentrate on selling. It was a beautiful day, after all. Perfect for selling. It was like the day had no care in the world unlike him.

The park had been Lacey's favorite spot for selling for as long as she could remember. It was great, with the nature around - kind of - and the people walking through as families and such as they got off work. A lot of the business was done in the earlier mornings and early afternoons, when people were at lunch or heading out to work, and she assumed that it happened later in the evening as well. However, one thing out of the ordinary caught her attention on that particular morning.
"Spot?" She questioned, her gaze shooting over to the familiar boy. As far as she knew, he didn't sell in the park. Ever. So what was he doing there that day?

"Spot?"
Spot looked up in surprise when he heard his name. He knew others did sell here, just not in this section of the park. It was one of his secret selling spots, after all. He did his best selling here. The boys were always bugging him about his best selling spots, and he would give them a few tips. But he would never ever reveal this location.
"Lacey?"

"Lacey?"
Lacey flashed Spot a small smile, slowly making her way over to the boy. "I didn't know that ya sold here..." She mumbled, still a bit stunned to see him there. Most days, no one else was there besides quite a lot of people who were willing to give money away whenever Lacey would be able to pull off pretending to be sick or limping or something.

"I didn't know that ya sold here..."
Spot pursed his lips and shrugged. "Ah well... it don't happen very often. " He didn't really want to give away his special selling spot. He was glad that he had decided to move closer to the city. After all, it was almost time to go over to Manhattan to meet up with Jack.
He raised an eyebrow at her. "I didn't know you sold here either."

"Ah well... it don't happen very often."
Lacey nodded slowly, chewing on her bottom lip gently. She supposed that it made sense; Spot apparently had quite a few spots that he would switch between selling depending on the day... At least, that's what she had heard.
"I didn't know you sold here either."
She shrugged, "I'm always in the park. The location inside the park depends on the day and where I see the most people at any given time. There are a lot of families, so playing sick 'n' stuff typically works. Kids love ta help out." She smiled faintly. "It's good ta see ya after yesterday, though."

Spot nodded. The park was a good selling spot. He would have to keep in mind that Lacey sold here too. He didn't want to ruin her selling.
"It's good ta see ya after yesterday, though."
He nodded again. "Yeah... you um slept well?" he asked awkwardly unsure of what to say as silence took over between the two of them.
((Gotta hit the sack. I'll "see" you in the morning!))

[Goodnight! Talk to you then! xx]
"Yeah... you um slept well?"
Lacey laughed a bit, shrugging and shifting the weight of the papers slightly in her hands. "I s'pose so. I guess the better question here would be... Did you?" She asked. He looked a bit better, with the bags under his eyes slowly but surely beginning to fade away.
The silence, however, wasn't quite so pleasant. "Look, I'm sorry about everythin' that I said yesterday, but I had ta say it. I just don't want ya ta feel awkward around me." She sighed softly.

"I s'pose so. I guess the better question here would be... Did you?"
Spot shrugged as he adjusted his last few papers in his arms. "Yeah... I slept all right."
For the first time in awhile, he actually managed to get to the lodge at a decent hour and catch some sleep. It wasn't a long sleep, but it was definitely better than what he had been getting.
"Look, I'm sorry about everythin' that I said yesterday, but I had ta say it. I just don't want ya ta feel awkward around me."
He squinted at her and shrugged. "No need ta apologize... it's um fine."

"Yeah... I slept all right."
Lacey nodded slowly, smiling ever so slightly at his words. It was better than nothing, she supposed.
"No need ta apologize... it's um fine."
As much as she was prepared to argue, she didn't want things to feel awkward for him, so she just nodded and pushed the matter aside. "So, um, I'm guessin' that I should let ya get back ta sellin'..."

"So, um, I'm guessin' that I should let ya get back ta sellin'..."
Spot glanced down at his papers. "Um yeah... I might jus' sell them later. I gotta meet up wit' Jack soon."
It was only a couple of papers so it wasn't a big deal if he didn't sell them right away or didn't sell them at all. At least, it wasn't a big deal for him. He had other ways of making money and well, he had a special savings stash.

"Um yeah... I might jus' sell them later. I gotta meet up wit' Jack soon."
Lacey laughed weakly, suddenly remembering that Spot had that meeting with Jack today that she had told him that Jack wanted. She was quite worried about what the cowboy could possibly be having to meet up with him in person about, although she figured that she would never know.
"Just keep yourself safe, alright?" She quickly spoke, flashing him a gentle smile. "I don't want nothin' ta happen ta ya."

"Just keep yourself safe, alright?"
Spot quirked an eyebrow. "It's jus' Manhattan. I'll be fine."
"I just don't want nothin' ta happen ta ya."
He shook his head, smiling slightly. He patted his cane and slingshot that were hanging at his sides. "I got myself covered. Nothin' ta worry about."

"It's jus' Manhattan. I'll be fine."
Lacey shrugged, "Ya never know what could happen. Besides, what if that's what Jack wanted ta talk about? What if there's somethin' dangerous in 'Hattan now?" She asked, although she knew that it was a reach. Manhattan was one of the safest boroughs out there.
"I got myself covered. Nothin' ta worry about."
She nodded slowly, figuring that he was right. He had weapons to defend himself with, and there was no question that he knew how to use both of them, so she gave in. "If ya say so... Don't bash a head in without a reason." She smiled a bit, once again shifting the papers in her arms. She had maybe ten or fifteen left, although she wanted to get done early so that she could head back and talk to Ms. Harbour about what was going on after hours sometimes.
"I should probably finish sellin' these... I really hope your meetin' is nothin' bad." She flashed him a smile.

"Ya never know what could happen. Besides, what if that's what Jack wanted ta talk about? What if there's somethin' dangerous in 'Hattan now?"
Spot couldn't help but scoff lightly. "Nothin' happens in Manhattan that I can't handle."
"If ya say so... Don't bash a head in without a reason."
He smirked. "I'll try not ta."
But of course, there would be no reason to fight anyone unless they attacked him first. But that would be highly unlikely. Most of Manhattan were to scared of him.
"I should probably finish sellin' these... I really hope your meetin' is nothin' bad."
Spot nodded and set his lips in a thing line. "I hope it ain't nothin' bad either..."

"Nothin' happens in Manhattan that I can't handle."
Lacey put her hands up in defense. "If ya say so, I'll trust ya..." She mumbled.
"I'll try not ta."
She smirked in return, raising an eyebrow. "Should I be worried?"
Of course, she knew that Spot wasn't a reckless fighter. It has been shown multiple times in the strike, such as when he didn't just jump in and join right away. He knew what he was doing. She trusted him.
"I hope it ain't nothin' bad either..."
She swallowed thickly, slowly nodding and stepping away. "If someone's gonna try killin' ya, I expect ta hear about it. If it's anythin' else, ya don't have ta tell me anythin'." She sighed softly. "Good luck, Spot." She smiled a bit, silently going back to selling.

"If ya say so, I'll trust ya..."
Spot nodded. He didn't like it when people doubted his strength. Just because he was on the short side didn't mean he couldn't put up a fight.
"Should I be worried?"
He quickly shook his head and gave her a cocky grin. "Not one bit."
"If someone's gonna try killin' ya, I expect ta hear about it."
His grin faded and gave her a slight nod. He didn't really care about talking about his possible death.
"If it's anythin' else, ya don't have ta tell me anythin'. Good luck, Spot."
Spot tipped his hat towards her. It was his way of saying goodbye with no words.

"Not one bit."
Lacey rolled her eyes at him playfully. "Right, I'll remember that." She laughed softly.
The selling of papers was pretty uneventful, seeing as how the routine was the same thing every day. She had been going through things the same way for years, and it had always worked, so she never truly saw any reason to change it.

"Right, I'll remember that."
Spot grinned. "Yeah, don't forget. Spot Conlon can take care of 'imself."
He gave her another motion of goodbye before heading off towards the bridge. He did stop by the lodge to stash his last few papers though. He knew better than to bring Brooklyn papers into Manhattan. He picked up his pace as he crossed the bridge, eager to know what Jack needed to tell him.

"Yeah, don't forget. Spot Conlon can take care of 'imself."
The grin on Spot's features was all that Lacey needed to light up with her own grin, although she had to force it away to continue selling papers.
Once she had finished for the day, however, she made her way back to the lodging house to do as she had meant to do before, but had never had the time to go through with.
