She didn't know what had come over her to make her feel as though it was going to be the best idea in the world, but with the warm summer nights, Lacey just felt as though getting some air would be a better idea than trying to sleep in a room full of other girls in close living quarters. It wouldn't be the first time that she had decided to sleep outside, and the weather made her feel as though it wouldn't be a bad idea. So, she had headed out to the docks, making herself comfortable there under some of the shaded areas, staring up at the sky.
Things had been different lately. It felt like things just weren't going well in really any areas of her life. Her time as a newsie was coming to an end, her brothers were reaching the age where none of them wanted to be looked after by her anymore, and Spot... well, she didn't know about Spot.
Letting out a sad sigh, Lacey settled in for a night under the stars.

Shiner hadn't meant to stay out late. She was one who was usually back in the lodge before curfew. After all, she wanted to become a young lady... but she has lost track of the time. She was at Medda's getting some advice and had forgotten all about the curfew. By the time she had, it was too late. She made it the lodge, and it was already locked up for the night. Of course, she could just sneak up the fire escape and slide in through one of the open windows. It was summer time, so the windows would be cracked open to cool the lodge up a little. However, Shiner didn't like breaking rules. It wasn't like she never slept outside before.
She decided to head to the docks and find a place to sleep there. She had hear that Spot kept blankets at his hideout sometimes... maybe she could rest there. But it seemed like she wasn't the only one who had that idea.
"Hi, Lacey," she greeted softly, not wanting to startle the older girl. "You get locked out too?"

"Hi, Lacey."
Upon hearing someone calling out to her, Lacey's gaze turned to find Shiner standing there. She was able to settle down upon realizing that it was someone that she knew and not some homeless person there to rob her of whatever money she had. "Hey, Shiner."
"You get locked out too?"
Her lips twitched into a frown, contemplating whether to explain the situation or just go along with it. Eventually, she settled on not explaining. "Yeah. It ain't too bad here."

"Hey, Shiner."
She smiled at the older girl as she sat down beside her.
"Yeah. It ain't too bad here."
Shiner nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it feels better than inside." The lodge could get so stuffy sometimes. "At least it's summer," she added. Getting locked out during winter would be the death of them.
