Ace had a frown on his face as he stood on the porch of the lodge. He wasn't sure how he felt about the news Rip had just shared with him. It just didn't sit right with him. Apparently, Rip had heard news about Spot's cousin Darcy being back in New York. He wasn't positive, but if he was right... Rip had a feeling that this could be the opportunity he had been waiting for. Ace, of course, warned his friend that it wouldn't be a good idea to go after Darcy. Especially after what happened last time. But Rip was stubborn. (Or maybe he really did want to see Darcy again. Ace wasn't sure.)
No matter what, Ace didn't like this. He didn't want his friend getting into trouble, and well, he didn't want to be involved. Rip would never involve him, but Ace couldn't help but worry about his friend. If the worry escalated enough, he knew that somehow or another he would get into Rip's plan. He was willing to face whatever came if that did happen, but that didn't make his uneasiness go away.

Astrid was making her way back to the girls lodge when she noticed Ace. He seemed a bit lost in thought. She moved towards him and looked up at him curiously. "Ace...ya ok?" She asked cautiously. Astrid had stayed longer at her parents grave then she had anticipated. She wanted to be lost in thought but Ace seemed out of place with the way he seemed so lost

"Ace..."
He looked up in surprise. A small smile played on his lips as his eyes met Astrid's. "Hey there..."
"Ya ok?"
Ace shrugged. "Yeah... jus' thinking." He stuffed his hands in his pockets and plopped down the stairs to be on the same level as Astrid. "You on your way to the border?" he asked lightly.
It was about time to head back home, maybe stop by Medda's.

Hey there...
Astrid smiled softly seeing the smile grace his face. Was he putting up a front? She wasn't sure.
Yeah... jus' thinking.
"What about...?" She asked carefully not wanting to over step.
You on your way to the border?
Astrid nodded a bit. "I can head that way. Don't have anything ta do taday."

"What about...?"
Ace sighed softly. "Rip," he admitted honestly.
"I can head that way. Don't have anything ta do taday."
He nodded back in return. "It can be a lonely walk." He grinned some. "Maybe you'd like to join me at Medda's? Thinkin' about playing some cards or something."

Astrid chuckled a bit. "I figured...something bad I take?"
It can be a lonely walk. Maybe you'd like to join me at Medda's? Thinkin' about playing some cards or something
"Yeah...that'd be fun...I'll go with ya." She smiled some. "If you'll have me that is."

"I figured... something bad I take?"
Ace shook his head. "Naw... it wasn't bad exactly. Just, um, I don't know." He shrugged. "I'm just worried about him I guess."
"Yeah... that'd be fun... I'll go with ya."
His grin widened. It was nice to have someone to hang out with. It was hard to get most of the boys in Queens to play cards st Medda's. They all would rather play in Queens. Ace didn't like staying late in Queens... or spending the night, even if Rip guaranteed his safety:
"If you'll have me that is."
He chuckled softly. "I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want you ta join me." He gave her a playful bump to her shoulder. "What's your best game? I personally like bridge."

Astrid nodded. "Yeah..."

She smiled a bit. "I'm not the best at any game but I can play any thing decently.".

"Yeah."
Ace sighed softly. "Yeah... I worry about him. I don't want him doin' something stupid again."
Rip was probably Ace's closest friend. He had a lot of friends just not very many close ones. He used to have more... but that was in the past. Maybe that was why he was so worried about Ace.
"I'm not the best at any game but I can play any thing decently.".
He nodded some. "Well, that can always change, can't it? I can give you some tips if ya like. Bridge ain't that hard to master. Jacks is easier, but I like bridge better."

Yeah... I worry about him. I don't want him doin' something stupid again.
Astrid nodded. She didn't know what to say. Rip had hurt her more then he would ever know. Breaking their friendship. Making Darcy leave...what could she say? Rip was the reason she was alone. Astrid kept her mouth shut. She didn't want to hurt Ace's feelings.
Well, that can always change, can't it? I can give you some tips if ya like. Bridge ain't that hard to master. Jacks is easier, but I like bridge better.
She smiled and nodded. "I'd like that...thank you."

Ace found himself sighing again and stuffed his hands in his pockets. Maybe he should have given Rip different advice... He really wished Rip would give up on the whole revenge thing, but Rip was as stubborn as a donkey. But maybe if the rumors that Darcy was back was false, he would finally give up and maybe take his offer to move over to Hoboken. Things would be great over there. Rip could be more like the guy Ace knew he could be. He was sure Lottie could help the guy loosen up.
"I'd like that...thank you."
He smiled back. "No problem. I enjoy playin' cards with new people." He chuckled a bit. "Though, as much as I love cards, I like playin' billiards a little more." He sighed dramatically. "But sadly, the boys broke the one at Medda's so I haven't played in forever."

Astrid smiled hearing him. "Well there's a bar over here that's got billiards. If ya feel like playin." She said with a glint in her eyes

Ace brightened. "Really? I had no idea." He found himself chuckling again. "Guess I should have tried lookin' a little harder, huh?"
He grinned. "You mind showin' me that bar? I mean... unless you want to go to Medda's," h added sheepishly. "I don't mind. Medda's is always great."

"Yeah I can show ya." She smiled happily. "I don't mind. Give ya something ta do in Queens next time you're down." Astrid said softly. "It's this way." She started to move down the street

Astrid laughed softly. "Can't believe ya didn't look harder."
Thanks, I really appreciate it. It'll be really nice ta play billiards again and do it whenever I come here.
"It's no problem." She smiled. They walked a short ways and stopped in front of a decent sized bar. "This is it. Boys from the lodge come over here sometime."

Ace glanced around at the bar and nodded in approval. "Nice place." He opened the door for her. "After you."

He slipped in behind her. "No problem."

He gave her a sheepish look and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Ah well... You wouldn't mind, I mean, if I um, did billiards first?" He gave her a pleading smile. "Lottie would kill me for this... but I haven't played in ages."

Astrid smiled. "Don't worry about it."
Thanks! I'll make it a quick game, I guess I'll have a Coke.
"Take your time. I don't got work." She said with a smile watching as he eagerly headed to play a game. "Two cokes." Astrid said to the man at the bar.

"Take your time. I don't got work."
Ace grinned. "Naw, don't say that. I can go for hours. A quick game and we can enjoy a game of cards over drinks for a bit before I head back to the billiards."
He grabbed a pool cue and headed for one the empty pool tables. It felt great to be playing again.

Naw, don't say that. I can go for hours. A quick game and we can enjoy a game of cards over drinks for a bit before I head back to the billiards.
Astrid laughed as she got a table close to his pool table. "A quick game then. Your coke is over here when ya need it."

Ace always kept his word, and he didn't mind owing one to Astrid. She was a nice girl and looked like she was going to be a good friend.
"A quick game then. Your coke is over here when ya need it."
"Almost done," he promised with a grin. "And lucky for you, I got a deck of cards on me."
