I do say so, so don't ever forget that I owe ya one."
Astrid felt her face heat up slightly. "Alright." She said her voice a bit softer then usual. She took a drink hoping to hide her face even for a moment.
Almost done, And lucky for you, I got a deck of cards on me.
"That sounds good." She smiled as she sat at the table watching him play.

"Alright."
He gave her another wink and continued on with his game. It was always somehow comforting to hear the balls click against each other. A fond nostalgic feeling... maybe a little bittersweet.
"That sounds good."
Ace grinned as the last ball spun down and out of sight. "And that's the game!" He laughed softly and plopped down across from Astrid. "Thanks again for showin' me this place. It's great."

Astrid blushed slightly as he winked at her. She looked down and took a drink.
And that's the game! Thanks again for showin' me this place. It's great.
Astrid smiled. "It's no problem. Glad you enjoyed it."

"It's no problem. Glad you enjoyed it."
Ace merely grinned as he sipped his drink. "I like this place. Not too loud an' not too quiet either." He glanced around and chuckled softly. "Not too busy either. Is it always like this?" he asked curiously.
He didn't care much for busy places. He liked being around people and all, but there was such thing as too many people. Perhaps he was a tad bit claustrophobic.

I like this place. Not too loud an' not too quiet either. Not too busy either. Is it always like this?
Astrid nodded a bit as she took a drink. "Yeah it's usually like this." Astrid laid back. "Almost had a job here and it's always like this." She watched the people go around either getting drinks or playing games.

"Yeah it's usually like this."
Ace nodded in approval. "That's good. Don't care for too crowded of places."
"Almost had a job here and it's always like this."
He raised an eyebrow. "Didn't like it here?" He glanced around. "But then again I can understand that."
He finished off his coke. "Now," he grinned. "How about that round of cards I promised you."

That's good. Don't care for too crowded of places.
"Yeah...crowds can be a bit overwhelming." Astrid said with a laugh in her voice.
Didn't like it here? But then again I can understand that.
She smiled a bit watching him. "Just never gets busy enough for me to make good money."
Now, How about that round of cards I promised you.
Astrid nodded. "That'd be great."

s"Yeah...crowds can be a bit overwhelming."
Ace nodded. "They really can. That's why I don't like selling papes. Did it more when I was younger because no one would give a kid a job."
"Just never gets busy enough for me to make good money."
"Ah..." he nodded again.
"That'd be great."
A grin spread across his face as he pulled out his deck of rather worn cards from his pocket. "Let me shuffle these up and we can play a few rounds or so."

"Newsies the only job some can get. I'm glad I don't have to sell full time...never really did now that I think about it." Astrid said casually. She knew she was better off for the first half of her childhood. The second...well she spent it wanting revenge then shifting to staying alive. "What do ya do for work?" She asked getting her mind away from her own thoughts.
Ah...
Astrid nodded a bit and leaned in the table gently. "Restaurant work means big crowds are good though so it's got its own advantages." She shrugged a bit.
Let me shuffle these up and we can play a few rounds or so.
"Astrid watched him shuffle. "Think ya need a new deck there Ace." She smiled as she watched him. He seemed so happy...Astrid was glad she came out and ran into him.

Ace nodded some. "Mhmmm... I didn't start sellin' full time until my mum passed away. As soon as I was old enough to get a real job, I quit sellin' full time."
"What do ya do for work?"
He gave a her a slightly sheepish look. "I'm a dishwasher. Not the best job around, but it pays well."
"Restaurant work means big crowds are good though so it's got its own advantages."
He nodded in understanding.
"Think ya need a new deck there Ace."
Ace chuckled softly and rubbed his finger along the edge of the deck. "Yeah, probably should think about gettin' a new deck. But this deck has been with me a long time. Hard to let it go, ya know?" He grinned and gave her her cards. "But gotta move on and break in a new deck."

Astrid nodded. "I didn't sell much after my parents..." she said softly looking at the table.
I'm a dishwasher. Not the best job around, but it pays well.
"As long as ya have a job. I mean I'm a waitress." Astrid smiled a bit. "We're half of a restaurant."
Yeah, probably should think about gettin' a new deck. But this deck has been with me a long time. Hard to let it go, ya know? But gotta move on and break in a new deck.
Astrid smiled. "Thanks. I think you're deck will do. Maybe next time you're here we can look for a new deck."

Ace nodded quietly in understanding. "I can understand that..."
"As long as ya have a job. I mean I'm a waitress. We're half of a restaurant."
He chuckled softly. "Yeah. It's a good job, but one of these days I'm gonna go for an opening at the tea shop in Jersey."
"Thanks. I think you're deck will do. Maybe next time you're here we can look for a new deck."
Ace grinned as he glanced down at his cards. "Good memories with these cards... but it sounds like we got a deal. Next time we'll Be looking st a new deck of cards."

I can understand that...
He didn't know the half of it. Astrid still had nightmares about seeing her parents. Every once in a while it would be Darcy there and not her parents. It always haunted her.
Yeah. It's a good job, but one of these days I'm gonna go for an opening at the tea shop in Jersey.
"That sounds perfect for you." Astrid smiled. "I'm just looking ta keep my job."

Ace grinned. "I'm hopin' that maybe next year there'll be an opening... don't know if they'll take me but it's worth a shot."
It was his dream job at the moment. He would reach for something higher one day, but for now it was the perfect dream for him.
"It'll be a great day. I'm looking forward to it."
He smiled back at her and nodded in agreement. "Me too, me too."

Astrid smiled happily. "It's a date."

"I sure hope so..." Ace glanced back at the pool table. "They haven't had any openings for months."
"It's a date."
He pursed his lips slightly. Not sure how he felt about the word, but somehow he wasn't set against it. He kinda liked the thought now that he knew Astrid a little better.
"A date it is," he agreed.

"So ya keep bugging them. You'll get the job in no time." Astrid smiled. Then she noticed his glance towards the pool tables. "Ya wanna play again?"
A date it is
Astrid smiled and looked down at the table. "It'll be fun. Know some good shops around here."

Ace chuckled. "I should really try doin' that. Maybe they'll finally see that they need me."
"Ya wanna play again?"
He grinned sheepishly. "That obvious huh? I'm real sorry... I just love the game."
"It'll be fun. Know some good shops around here."
He smiled. "Then you should be able to find the best store for a new deck, right?"

"Wear em down and they'll see how great ya are." Astrid smiled at him hoping she had encouraged him to go for it.
That obvious huh? I'm real sorry... I just love the game.
Astrid smiled at him and took the cards from his hand. "Go play. All ya want. I'll play solitaire." She smiled at him feeling happier then she had in a long time. "We'll save the card game for the new deck. Break em in and you'll have the memory of how terrible I am at cards ta make ya smile." Astrid laughed gently.
Then you should be able to find the best store for a new deck, right?
"Oh yeah. Already got a few in mind. We'll find a good deck in no time." She smiled.

Ace's grin widened. "That sounds like an excellent plan. I'm gonna give it a try as soon as I get back ta Jersey."
"Go play. All ya want. I'll play solitaire."
He looked very sheepish and boyish as he ran his hand through his hair. "You're sure that's all right? I really love playin' billiards... I'd hate for that ta get in the way of us playin' cards."
"We'll save the card game for the new deck. Break em in and you'll have the memory of how terrible I am at cards ta make ya smile."
Ace chuckled. "All right then. But I'm sure you ain't that bad. You were pretty good at Medda's."
"Oh yeah. Already got a few in mind. We'll find a good deck in no time."
He grinned once more and gave her a thumbs up before heading towards one of the empty pool tables.

You're sure that's all right? I really love playin' billiards... I'd hate for that ta get in the way of us playin' cards
She watched how he changed at the thought of playing billiards again. He seemed happy. Childlike even. But she couldn't help watching his hair fallback into place after he ran his hand through it. He had really nice hair...
All right then. But I'm sure you ain't that bad. You were pretty good at Medda's.
"I wouldn say good. Getting by maybe." Astrid laughed softly. "Go play. Have fun. Make the trip he'e worth it." She smiled as she watched him run off to play.

"You'll have a new job in no time!"
Ace laughed softly and nodded in agreement. "If all goes as planned, I most definitely will!"
"I wouldn't say good. Getting by maybe."
He shook his head slightly, still smiling. "Naw, you were good. Honest."
"Go play. Have fun.. Make the trip he'e worth it."
His smile softened as his eyes sparkled. "Thanks. I certainly will make this game worth it." He winked at her and then went on to play billiards. This had to be the most fun he had in awhile. It felt really good after being so tense and worried with Rip.

"It'll go just fine. You wait and see!" Astrid smiled brightly.
Naw, you were good. Honest."
Astrid looked down and ran her hand through her hair. "Thanks. Good ta get a compliment from ya."
Thanks. I certainly will make this game worth it.
She was a bit surprised when he winked at her but she just kept smiling. He didn't mean anything by it. They were just having a nice time together.
