Smolder stood at the entrance of the zoo with his arms crossed. He had just finished his shift and was now just waiting for Sand. Today wasn't busy so he could fulfill his end of the deal. Classes were over for the term, and that was his last shift at the zoo for the week.
He wasn't really in the mood to talk to anyone. But, a deal was a deal. He had better keep his end of it.

Sand had made her way to the zoo. It always amazed her that Smolder worked here. It seemed so odd. She liked coming here though. Especially to see Smolder. He was important to her. Though they tended to be very similar in the way they acted it usually didn't cause much problems. Smolder didn't seem like he was happy to be holding up his side of the deal. She would have let him off the hook if he would say something. He never did though. He was usually quiet and just listened. "Heya Smolder. Ya have a good day?" She asked as she got closer.

"Heya Smolder."
He glanced at the clock near the entrance. "You're late," was his blunt reply.
Just by a minute, but Smolder was irritated. He didn't like having to wait on things like this. He wanted it over fast.
"Ya have a good day?"
He shrugged. "Good as any day. What do ya need to talk about?"

You're late
"No I ain't. Ya clocks fast." She said with a small smile. "Fast by a minute though. Not to bad."
Good as any day. What do ya need to talk about?
Sand looked down at her feet. Did she only ever see him to talk about things...? She didn't think so and it hurt that he was so straightforward about it. Though that was Smolder. "Nothing really...just haven't seen ya a lot..." Sand said softly with a gentle shrug.

"No I ain't. Ya clocks fast."
Smolder shook his head and tilted his head toward the clock. "That ain't my clock."
"Fast by a minute though. Not to bad."
"Late is still late."
"Nothing really..."
He frowned. "Nothing?" Now he was really irritated. He thought she needed to talk to him about something important. There were so many other things he could be doing right now...
"Just haven't see ya a lot..."[/I]
He sighed, feeling a little guilty for being so snappy. "Been busy... Had finals."
It wasn't really an apology, but it was the best he could do. If it wasn't a debate or a paper, he wasn't too great with words especially when it came to apologies.

That ain't my clock.
Sand just smiled. She missed this. "It's the clock ya using ain't it? Makes it ya clock."
Late is still late.
She sighed softly. "Alright I guess."
Nothing?
Sand could tell by his tone he was frowning even before she looked up to see him. This was a bad idea...no one liked being around her when she was in this mood. No one seemed to like her happy. Not knowing what to say she kept quiet as her thoughts slowly pulled her back into the grip of fear.
Been busy... Had finals.
"Yeah...I get it...I guess I should just leave ya alone then huh...?" She said clearly slipping back into her usual mood slowly. "Ya got stuff ta do and all...I shouldn't of bothered ya..." Sand said softly. Why did she even bother? She should just let him live his life. He was always so busy and she just pushes herself into his days and precious time. All she did was make his life harder.

"It's the clock ya using ain't it? Makes it ya clock."
Smolder rolled his eyes. "Jus' 'cause I'm usin' it don't make it mine."
"Alright I guess."
He grunted. "Try harder next time."
He hated waiting, so the least she could do was try to be earlier or right on time. Wasn't she a stickler for being on time? Maybe he was just being a bit too picky.
"Yeah...I get it...I guess I should just leave ya alone then huh...?"
Her voice was a little shaky and sounded sad. It made the guilt even worse. Gah, why did stuff like this always happen to him?
"M'sorry..." he mumbled. "Jus' don't like talkin'... a lot."
"Ya got stuff ta do and all...I shouldn't of bothered ya..."
He shook his head and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "Not busy... got nothin' today for once."

Jus' 'cause I'm usin' it don't make it mine. Try harder next time
Sand walked quietly. She didn't want to speak up anymore. She was trying to be funny and it only fell flat. Sand should have figured trying to make this enjoyable would be come back to haunt her.
M'sorry...Jus' don't like talkin'... a lot.
Nodding a bit she crossed her arms. "Yeah I get it..." she mumbled softly. Sand was not feeling this trip anymore. It was a mistake.
Not busy... got nothin' today for once.
"Then ya should spend it doin what ya want...not hangin around with a stupid kid who conned ya inta doin it..." she shrugged a bit. "Go have fun or something Smolder...ya need it." She said with a soft weak laugh.

"Yeah I get it..."
Smolder couldn't help but frown as she crossed her arms. She was upset at him, wasn't she? He had upset her... again. But why did he care so much anyways?
"Then ya should spend it doin what ya want...not hangin around with a stupid kid who conned ya inta doin it..."
Unable to contain his irritation, he bopped her lightly on the head. "You ain't stupid and ya didn't conn me. Stop beatin' yourself up, he added gruffly. "I'm the one who should be doin' that."
"Go have fun or something Smolder...ya need it."
He snorted lightly. "I don't do fun any more..." He nudged her lightly. "But I think you need some fun."

You ain't stupid and ya didn't conn me. Stop beatin' yourself up, "I'm the one who should be doin' that.
Sand smiled a bit hearing him. "Aight then..."
I don't do fun any more...But I think you need some fun.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She asked nudging him back. Sand could tell that Smolder was trying to make her feel better.

"Aight then..."
Smolder relaxed some and nodded. "Much better..."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
He shrugged. "Dunno... seem upset. Usually means you need to be happy and do something fun."

Much better...
Sand smiled a bit. "Thanks..."
Dunno... seem upset. Usually means you need to be happy and do something fun.
"I just..." she shrugged slightly. "I just need to relax I think...and I missed you hangin around..."

"Thanks..."
Smolder shrugged again. There really was no need to thank him. He hadn't been exactly very nice earlier.
"I just..."
He tilted his head some and raised his eyebrow in a silent question.
"I just need to relax I think..."
He hummed in agreement. "Probably a good idea."
"And I missed you hangin around..."
Smolder gave her a surprised look. "You... miss me?"

Probably a good idea
Sand nodded a bit. "Yeah..."
You... miss me?
"Course I do..." She said softly as she kicked at a rock.

"Yeah..."
He gave a her a slight nudge. "So... why don't you? Nothin' really happens around here. You can relax and go do somethin'."
"Course I do..."
Smolder cocked his head to the side and studied her a moment before replying, "Why?"
He didn't really see himself as someone to be missed. He distanced himself from the others in order not to form attachments. He knew all too well how easily it was to lose someone you loved.

So... why don't you? Nothin' really happens around here. You can relax and go do somethin'.
Sand gave her own shrug. "I dunno...I just worry....I dunno why..."
Why?
"Ya were the first person I met here..." Sand looked down and kicked at a stray rock. "You're my friend..."

"I dunno...I just worry....I dunno why..."
Smolder purses his lips some. "What's there ya worry about? Bronx doesn't have any problems... not really."
"Ya were the first person I met here... You're my friend..."
He gave her a surprised look. "We're friends?"

What's there ya worry about? Bronx doesn't have any problems... not really
"It's not the problems now that bother me..." She sighed. "it's everything that could happen. All the possibilities. The what ifs..." Sand hated admitting that sometimes her mind got the better of her but she could tell Smolder. He was her friend.
We're friends?
Sand slowed down a bit shocked. Did he not think of them as friends...? "Yeah...course I think we are...do you...?" She asked almost hesitantly.

"It's not the problems now that bother me..."
He raised an eyebrow, waiting for her to continue.
"it's everything that could happen. All the possibilities. The what ifs..."
Smolder shrugged. "Why worry about all the could happens? If you're so worried about it... why don't you just prepare as if all those could happens are about to happen so when they happen you are ready and can prevent 'em."
He was rather surprised at how quickly the words came out. He was usually only like this at debates...
"Yeah...course I think we are...do you...?"
He shrugged again. "Never really thought about it.... but I guess we are. We do talk a lot and stuff..."

Why worry about all the could happens? If you're so worried about it... why don't you just prepare as if all those could happens are about to happen so when they happen you are ready and can prevent 'em.
Sand thought about it for a while. "Makes sense." She said simple still mulling it over. There was a lot she and Blondie needed to talk about but nothing was coming to mind. It was a good thing he wasn't here then. No maybe she could enjoy being with Smolder.
Never really thought about it.... but I guess we are. We do talk a lot and stuff...
"Very convincing." She laughed softly. "And stuff? We do and stuff. Must be close." Sand smiled as she nudged him gently.

"Makes sense."
Smolder nodded. It should make sense after all. Logic. Stuff he was learning about in college. He couldn't help but feel a little proud of how his schooling was paying off, even if it was in the littlest of ways.
"Very convincing."
He shrugged. Convincing wasn't really up his alley.
"And stuff? We do and stuff. Must be close."
He shrugged again, but there was a slight smile tugging at the edge of his lips. That was something only Sand could do to him.

"I knew I could get ya ta smile!"
Smolder coughed and hid his face some. "Of course..."
He couldn't help but be slightly embarrassed. He wasn't one to show his emotions in the open.
"I'm glad I got to see ya."
He cracked another small smile. "Yeah... I feel the same."
It was good to smile again even if he didn't want to admit it. He supposed that was the reason why he liked talking to Sand occasionally.

Yeah... I feel the same
"Good." Sand smiled. "Gotta come around more ya know...?"

"Hey... I like your smile... ya shouldn hide it/"
Smolder felt his face turning red. "Ah...
"Good. Gotta come around more ya know?"
He pursed his lips and shrugged. She did have a point... "I guess so... just hard."
