"Sounds good ta me, I'll make it real warm for ya."
Spot smiled softly, blushing slightly. "Thanks... I really appreciate it."
It was really nice of her to offer to make a scarf for him. He'd have to do something real nice for her in return. It wasn't just because she was making him a scarf. He felt it would be the nice thing to do. She had been good to him and he wanted to repay her somehow.
"What's your favorite color, Spot?"
He blinked in surprise, not expecting the question. "It's red."

"Thanks... I really appreciate it."
Lacey nodded, a grin still present on her face. She didn't find herself a typically overly happy kind of person, so the fact that it was Spot Conlon of all people who could make her smile and feel as happy as only her brothers had ever been able to do before was a bit of a shock to her. It was a pleasant surprise, however.
"It's red."
She nodded. She knew why she had asked - mostly because the wool for the scarf itself hadn't been horribly expensive. Perhaps she could pull together just a few more coins by cutting down the size of her dinner even more so than usual and getting him some red yarn for his scarf. That would be nice, and it might make things easier for him if the Manhattan boys ever saw them together. They wouldn't be able to bring up the whole 'matching scarves' thing.
In the end, it would depend on the money that she got, although Lacey assumed that it wouldn't be all that difficult. "Good ta know. I'll keep that in mind." She flashed him another small smile.

"Good ta know. I'll keep that in mind."
Spot smiled slightly. "Yeah..." He turned over to her. "What's yours?"
Maybe by knowing her favorite color, it would help him figure out what he could do for her. Plus, it just felt natural to ask. It was odd, though. To have such a natural conversation outside of his brothers or even his most-trusted bird. He had to admit... he really liked it.

"What's yours?"
"Green." She smiled. Green had been her favorite color for most of her life, considering she liked things that had to do with life. Life, she had come to realize, mainly consisted of green grass, trees, and leaves, and she found those to be some of the most beautiful things in the world.
Lacey wasn't always the type for casual conversation, typically feeling as though there was some sort of ulterior motive behind it, but she didn't feel that way with Spot. She genuinely felt as though they were just sitting down and talking with one another, snow falling and creating what could have easily been the perfect scene if anything had been romantic about it.
"Where'd ya come from? Like, your family 'n' stuff?" She asked, a bit cautious to bring it up, although she was curious. She had a pretty good idea, although she never felt as though she could completely tell when it came to Spot.

"Green."
Spot smiled softly. "That's a good color. My mom liked that color alot."
After all, green was the color of Ireland. Back when his parents were alive, many green things had decorated their little home. Thunder probably had a few of those items at his place.
"Where'd ya come from? Like, your family 'n' stuff?"
He glanced back at the water, gazing towards the East. "Ireland," he answered softly. "Came here shortly after I was born."
He honestly didn't feel much of a connection to Ireland, maybe just the language and with his parents. He felt more America to be honest. Darcy... even though she hadn't been born in Ireland, had more feelings for Ireland than him and Thunder.

"That's a good color. My mom liked that color alot."
A small smile tugged at Lacey's lips, "She had good taste. You do, too."
"Ireland."
Lacey's eyes lit up. She had heard about Ireland, and she had always been told that she looked Irish, with the red in her hair and the green in her eyes. However, the colors were just slightly off to have the typical Irish look, kind of in the same way that Spot didn't look like the stereotypical Irish boy. However, now that he said it, she could see it.
"Came here shortly after I was born."
Lacey nodded. "It must have been nice there. Real pretty. That's what I've heard, at least. A couple of the goils came from over there..." She shrugged.

"She had good taste."
Spot smiled softly. "She really did..."
"You do, too."
He looked away rather bashfully, looking more his age and more boyish. "Naw... I wouldn't say that."
"It must have been nice there. Real pretty. That's what I've heard, at least. A couple of the goils came from over there..."
He nodded slightly, shaking his head mentally at the mention of the girls who had come from Ireland. They had come under the assumption that Spot would like them just because they were Irish like him. He chuckled softly. "Ah well, I don't really remember Ireland so I can't say. Moved a couple years after I was born... Thunder probably remembers alot more than me."

"Naw... I wouldn't say that."
Lacey grinned, "I would. Your taste in candy was really good that one day." It had been a while back, and Lacey wasn't even sure if Spot would remember it, but it was a nice memory that the pair had together.
"Ah well, I don't really remember Ireland so I can't say. Moved a couple years after I was born..."
She nodded. She understood that, and it had nothing to do with him at all.
"Thunder probably remembers alot more than me."
"Well at least ya have someone that ya can ask about it if ya ever care ta find somethin' out. There are probably books about it in the 'Hattan library, too." Lacey smiled. She didn't remember much about where she had come from either, having only remembered a few places because of books from the library.

"I would. Your taste in candy was really good that one day."
Spot raised his eyebrow, surprised that she had remembered that day. He knew that not all newsies had a good memory like him. Thunder liked to tease him about it...
"Well, I suppose that means we both have good taste," he teased lightly, surprising himself once more. He would have never dreamed of teasing a girl like this in the past. He was truly comfortable around Lacey.
"Well at least ya have someone that ya can ask about it if ya ever care ta find somethin' out. There are probably books about it in the 'Hattan library, too."
He nodded. "Yeah it's real nice. Especially for Jasper." Spot had to smile at the thought of his kid brother. Jasper certainly loved knowing more about Ireland than Spot ever had. Plus the kid was more curious than his elder brothers.

"Well, I suppose that means we both have good taste."
Lacey grinned at his teasing attitude. From what she could tell, Spot was really warming up to her, and she appreciated it. It was nice to have someone who felt genuine around. "Well, if ya wanna be technical about it... Thanks." She giggled quietly, her gaze dropping to the ground as a faint blush tinted her cheeks.
"Yeah it's real nice. Especially for Jasper."
She smiled fondly. Every time that Spot would speak about his family, his entire demeanor changed. It was nice to see Spot care so much about something, and it was obvious that he really did want the best for them, whether they were in other boroughs or not. He did as much as he could to support them and Lacey admired that in him.
"It's great that ya care so much about 'em. I'm sure they're real grateful for it, too." She smiled faintly.

He grinned and gave her a slight nudge. "I do."
"It's great that ya care so much about 'em. I'm sure they're real grateful for it, too."
Spot rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Ah well... they're family and the only ones I have left. Thunder is a great brother... and Jasper?" He couldn't help another fond smile tugging at his lips. "He's a great kiddo."

"I do."
Lacey rolled her eyes in a playful manner, giving Spot a nudge back and coughing into the scarf to clear her throat before she spoke again.
"Ah well... they're family and the only ones I have left."
Lacey nodded, shooting Spot a reassuring smile. Family was something that people seemed to need, and most of the newsies didn't have their real families anymore. They had become siblings to one another, and the lodging house owners were their parents. Lacey knew that she was lucky to have real siblings still there with her, and she hoped that Spot knew that he was lucky, too.
"Thunder is a great brother..."
Lacey smirked faintly, "I remember. He thought you and me were a couple when we first met. He seems real nice, though. Reminds me a lot of ya. That's definitely a good thing."
"And Jasper? He's a great kiddo."
"Your whole family seems real nice, Spot. And judgin' from how much ya smile when ya think about 'em, I'm gonna have ta agree that they seem like a great group of people." She smiled faintly. Spot had a good family, and he seemed intent on keeping it that way. If there was ever anything that she could do to help him along with that, then she would do it in a heartbeat.

His face softened and also sobered a little. "Wish you could meet all of 'em," he said quietly. "I think Darce would like you..."

"Thunder um likes ta tease me... but he is a great guy."
Lacey laughed, "Everyone seems ta like ta tease ya. But it's all good. At the end of the day, if it makes people happy, I can put up with just about anythin'. As long as people smile, y'know? That makes me feel happy, too."
"Does he? I always wanted ta be like him..."
She smiled, nodding a bit. "When we met 'im, it took me a while ta get used to both of ya bein' right next ta one another. I knew which one you each were, but it was still, just... Odd."
"Wish you could meet all of 'em. I think Darce would like you..."
Sensing the sudden change in tone, Lacey's hand gently rested on Spot's shoulder, although she didn't put too much pressure there. She didn't want to make him uncomfortable and kill the moment when the moment had been so wonderful.
"Spot... I don't know much about things like that. Especially with you. I don't know about 'Darce' or anything like that, but I'm thinkin' that there's more ta the story than what ya think that there is." She whispered.

Spot nodded thoughtfully. "When you put it that way... it makes teasin' not seem so bad. I like that."
"When we met 'im, it took me a while ta get used to both of ya bein' right next ta one another. I knew which one you each were, but it was still, just... Odd."
He chuckled. "When we were little, Thunder was a little shorter so alot of adults thought we were twins!"
"Spot... I don't know much about things like that. Especially with you. I don't know about 'Darce' or anything like that, but I'm thinkin' that there's more ta the story than what ya think that there is."
He looked at her in a different light. Normally, he'd get irritated when someone spoke about his cousin, especially if they never knew her. But somehow, Lacey was different. She seemed to understand him like no one else had, outside of his family of course. He felt at home with her... like he could tell her everything.
Spot nodded slowly. "Yeah... you're right. There is alot more... and I'm sure Rip knows what that is."

"When you put it that way... it makes teasin' not seem so bad. I like that."
Lacey was glad to know that she had helped Spot look at things from a different angle. She didn't get to do that for people a whole lot, so she was pretty excited about it.
"When we were little, Thunder was a little shorter so alot of adults thought we were twins!"
She laughed. "I dunno, I may be crazy, but I think it's better when boys are closer ta my height. I like lookin' people in the eyes, y'know? When boys get too tall it starts gettin' intimidatin'. Maybe that's just me, though." Lacey never thought much about height. People couldn't control it about themselves, so why should she judge them based on a silly thing like that?
"Yeah... you're right. There is alot more... and I'm sure Rip knows what that is."
Lacey nodded, although she didn't push. For once in her life, she had no desire to know something more. Spot deserved privacy at the very least, and she was going to give that to him. If he wanted to share something personal with her, then he could do it on his own time, and she would listen. That was one thing that she was very good at.
"I do hope that things work out. But I probably should start headin' back for the night, my finger's are gettin' numb. As much as I'd love ta stay and talk to ya - and believe me, I would - I'm thinkin' I probably should put health first." She flashed him a small smile, slowly pulling herself up into a standing position.

Spot shrugged. He was a bit sensitive about his height. He was short compared to most boys in Brooklyn... and Thunder was really tall. He really hated that he probably wasn't going to get any taller.
"I do hope that things work out. But I probably should start headin' back for the night, my finger's are gettin' numb. As much as I'd love ta stay and talk to ya - and believe me, I would - I'm thinkin' I probably should put health first."
He gave her a faint smile. "Me too..." He got onto his feet. "Yeah... I should probably be headin' back ta the lodge as well." Spot pursed his lips slightly. "Would you um like if I walked you back to the lodge?"
People might say things, but he didn't care. He wanted to walk Lacey back.

"Yeah... I should probably be headin' back ta the lodge as well."
Lacey was actually a bit surprised by how uncomfortable it was to be standing up again. She had been so comfortable just sitting down and having a conversation with Spot that her legs had seemingly fallen asleep, and standing was a little bit shaky at first as she did her best to wake up her muscles.
"Would you um like if I walked you back to the lodge?"
She paused for a second, although it didn't take her long to nod. If Spot was willing to walk her back, then she would enjoy the company, and it would be nice to keep the conversation going for a little while longer. If people wanted to talk, she had given Spot a new way to look at the teasing, and she would be fine dealing with it either way. "I'd really like that."
Beginning to walk, Lacey stuffed her arms into her jacket, although she lacked the pockets that she wished that she had. Her fingers tended to always be cold, as people had pointed out, and she would probably end up buying some gloves or something like that when she went to get the new surprise yarn for Spot's new scarf. Hopefully, she could get it done staying up late within a week or two and get it to him before the end of the winter, just so that he could get some use out of it.
"It's been real nice talkin' to ya. Really." She beamed brightly, the smile lighting up her whole face as she looked over at the boy walking beside her.

The walk back to Brooklyn had taken much longer than Cloud had expected. The snow had been rather thick at the bridge and the wind certainly had not been helping. He desperately wanted to head to the lodge first, but he knew Spot was most likely at the docks at this time. Once he met with Spot, he could go to the lodge to rest once more.
Just as he assumed, Spot was at the docks. He was, however, slightly surprised to see Lacey with Spot. He knew she was a bird and that she had been around the leader quite often, but he didn't think she would want to be out in the cold. He also wasn't sure if he should bother the two at the moment. And well, he had gotten distracted by some snow flurries. He was watching the beautiful flakes swirl round and round, that he hadn't heard the two approach him.

"I'd really like that."
Spot smiled somewhat bashfully and offered her his hand. He was surprised to feel how cold they were, without thinking he guided her hand to the warmth in his coat pockets. It wouldn't be good for her to have such cold hands.
"It's been real nice talkin' to ya. Really."
He couldn't help but smile back at her. She looked so beautiful in the snow... "It's been nice for me too." His smile widened slightly as he glanced down at their hands in his pocket. He knew the perfect gift to get her.
He looked ahead of them towards the lodges and cocked his head head in surprise as he noted a familiar looking newsie.

Despite her trying her absolute best to hide it, a dark blush formed on Lacey's cheeks as her hand was guided into Spot's pocket. However, the warmth there was enough to allow her to relax, and it seemed to spread throughout her whole body in an instant. "Thanks, Spot..." She murmured, grateful that he would take something as small as that into account, and allowing her slightly shaky yet firm grip on his hand to loosen as she relaxed.
"It's been nice for me too."
Lacey's blush only intensified at that, although she hoped that she could play it off as being a natural flush from the cold, her gaze quickly dropping to the ground. "That's good, I'm glad."
Upon approaching, it didn't take long for Lacey to recognize Cloud. He was another one of Spot's birds, and one of the best ones that Brooklyn had. She didn't know him too well, although she knew enough about him to know that he was a good person, and she appreciated that. She didn't want Brooklyn being watched over by anyone who was anything else.
"You're out late. Aren't ya cold?" She called out to the newsie.

"You're out late. Aren't ya cold?"
Cloud felt sightly dazed as he heard someone call out to him. At least, he believed that he was being called to. He wasn't sure... He hadn't been paying attention.
He felt a bit embarrassed as he realized it was Lacey and Spot. "Um hi..." He lowered his eyes. "I was um hoping to bump into ya, Spot," he said softly, almost barely above a whisper.
He fidgeted slightly, trying to stay warm and feeling rather awkward and embarrassed for not paying attention once again. He really needed to work on daydreaming.

"Thanks, Spot..."
Spot was blushing slightly as murmured a soft "You're welcome..."
He didn't want her hands to be cold, especially since she had been out rather long in this weather.
"That's good, I'm glad."
He nodded once more. "Me too," he replied softly. "I'm glad I saw you here at the docks..."
He was slightly surprised to see Cloud out. The kid should be inside getting warm. The last thing he needed was his best bird getting sick.
"Um hi..."
Spot nodded. "Cloud."
"I was um hoping to bump into ya, Spot."
He frowned slightly as the younger boy shivered. "You could have waited until I got ta the lodge. You gonna catch a cold out here, blockhead," he scolded the newsie. His scolding had no real bite to it. He was just worried. Cloud could be so absentminded and so naive at times.

"Me too. I'm glad I saw you here at the docks..."
The girl's stomach seemed to erupt into butterflies, and she managed a slight laugh, although nothing more than that. It felt as though someone was beating her stomach with a sledgehammer, and for some reason, she didn't really mind.
"I was um hoping to bump into ya, Spot,"
Lacey found herself a bit disappointed. Not so much that Spot had business, but that it meant that she might be walking back to the lodging house by herself. It wasn't very far, and the fact that she was slightly saddened by the thought was a little bit strange, but she couldn't help it. "If ya need ta steal him for important business then I can walk back alone. It ain't too far, I'll be fine, I promise." She flashed the leader a small smile, although there was still a slight glimmer of sadness behind her bright hazel eyes.
"I'll see ya tamorrow, yeah?" She bit her bottom lip, reluctantly removing her hand from his own and his pocket, allowing the cold the begin nipping at her fingertips once again as she began walking away from the pair of boys.

"Cloud."
He shifted uneasily. He might not always be the best at reading Spot, but he knew the leader wasn't pleased with him. Cloud should've headed to the lodge first, but he felt that he really needed to report to Spot now.
"If ya need ta steal him for important business then I can walk back alone. It ain't too far, I'll be fine, I promise."
Cloud cocked his head to the side. "I thought you were a bird?" He looked back at Spot. It wasn't as if this news was private. He was sure it would fine if Lacey heard. It might be a good thing actually.
"You could have waited until I got ta the lodge. You gonna catch a cold out here, blockhead."
He winced slightly, even though he knew Spot wasn't exactly angry with him. "I'm sorry," he apologized sheepishly. "But I got news... from Br-Bronx." His teeth were starting to chatter. He needed to make it quick. "I s-s-saw Sand t-talkin' wit-with D-Darcy while I w-was makin' my rounds."
