The morning was cold but it was starting to warm up. The boys definitely seemed to be a bit antsy now that they could feel that spring was nearing. Everyone was eager for warmer weather, and Spot couldn't blame them. Though, they really need to stay in line. The coming of spring was no excuse to slack off or get into trouble. He had to remind quite a few of the younger boys to straighten up as they lined up for their papers. He was glad he didn't need to worry about the girls. They didn't need to be scolded. Just the boys.
He was relieved when the bell finally rang, signalling that the newsies could finally start buying their papers. He wasn't sure if the boys would be able stay still for much longer.

From the moment that she had woken up, Lacey had been in an exceptionally good mood. She was ready to face the ever-changing weather and sell her papers, and she felt as though she could even get away with getting five or ten more than normal. She had the energy, and a little extra money was never a bad thing... If she could sell everything that she bought, that was.
When she finally approached the Distribution Center, she was practically bouncing off the walls with energy. A bright smile had settled across her features, her bright hair pulled back from her face with a piece of the yarn that she was using for Spot's present. Things were coming along nicely, and she was rather excited about it.
Finally approaching the front to buy her papers, Lacey set down the necessary money and grabbing the stack of papers, quickly making her way out of the line and towards the bustling streets of Brooklyn.

Spot watched as his fellow newsies bought their papers. He had already bought his, but he liked to keep an eye on all his boys just in case. They had a habit of getting into trouble when he wasn't looking. But today, the boys seemed to be behaving so it looked like it would be okay for him to start making his way towards his usual selling spot. He had just passed the gate when he noticed Lacey leaving as well.
"Hey, Lacey!" he called out, hurrying over to her and giving her a small smile. He cocked his head slightly as he saw that she had more papers than normal. "Changin' things up?" he asked curiously, holding his papers on his shoulder.

"Hey, Lacey!"
Lacey was a bit surprised to hear her name being called, although she recognized the voice right away. Spot falling into step beside her brought a faint smile to her lips, adjusting the papers at her hip so that they were better supported. "Mornin', Spot."
"Changin' things up?"
It took a few moments for Lacey to realize what he meant. However, when she followed his gaze, a sheepish smile replaced the pleasant one on her features. "Yeah, tryin'... It may be a bad idea but I figure it'd be good ta try." She was a bit surprised that Spot had noticed, although she was glad that he did. Perhaps he did care about the little details with her?
"It's warmin' up a bit, ain't it?" She smiled, glancing up at the sky. There was still snow, and it was cold, although it wasn't actively snowing, which was a nice change.

"Mornin', Spot."
He nodded at her greeting.
"Yeah, tryin'... It may be a bad idea but I figure it'd be good ta try."
Spot shrugged. "Always good ta try. Never know if it'll work if you never try."
He had his shares of experiences on selling different number of papers. It just varied from person to person on how many papers was the best number to sell.
"It's warmin' up a bit, ain't it?"
Spot nodded once more. "Sure is. An' glad of it. Been a long winter," he commented. "Will be lookin' forward ta long spring."

"Always good ta try. Never know if it'll work if you never try."
Lacey nodded. That had been her reasoning behind it, and she really did want to push herself a bit more. If she could make more money, perhaps she could afford to get a better coat so that Spot didn't feel obligated to share his with her all the time.
"Sure is. An' glad of it. Been a long winter. Will be lookin' forward ta long spring."
She smiled faintly. She didn't mind spring, especially after winters like the one that they had just had, although spring meant rain, and rain made selling papers difficult. No one really wanted to buy a soggy paper, and so she would spend more time trying to find ways to keep the papes dry than she did actually trying to sell them. Plus, she did think that the winter did something for people... It brought out the blue in Spot's eyes.
"Yeah, I agree, I s'pose." She shrugged. She didn't have much of a preference with the seasons, although if she had to pick, autumn was her favorite. Red and orange made the redness of her auburn hair seem toned down a bit more. She didn't really like the flaming colors that seemed to come out with the white of winter.
"Ya got any tips on sellin' more papes? I could probably use 'em." Lacey added.

"Yeah, I agree, I s'pose."
Spot also shrugged and gave a slight nod in agreement. Lacey didn't seem to have a preference for seasons. He, on the other hand, had a thing for spring and fall. They were warm yet cool. He hated summer because of the heat. It made the boys restless, but at least they could run off their energy outside unlike during the winter time.
"Ya got any tips on sellin' more papes? I could probably use 'em."
He looked a bit taken aback at her question. No one had ever really asked tips on selling from him before. Usually one of his birds would help out the new newsies, not him. He cleared his throat in an attempt to hide his blush. "Uh well, a good sellin' spot can make a big difference..." He scratched the back of his neck with his free hand. "I know the rich side of town is a good place for goils ta sell," he added hesitantly.

"Uh well, a good sellin' spot can make a big difference..."
Lacey nodded. She typically sold in the same spot every day, although that meant that it could be difficult at times to sell when people wouldn't show up. The park wasn't somewhere that people tended to bring extra money for papers, especially with so much snow around, and that had made things a bit more difficult lately. Perhaps she should look for somewhere else?
"I know the rich side of town is a good place for goils ta sell."
Something about the way that Spot spoke didn't sound quite sure about it. She didn't know if it was because he didn't like something about that part of town, or if it was something else. Why would the rich side of town be good for girls?
"Why's that?" Lacey pressed curiously, although she figured that it was worth a shot either way. She had extra papes to sell and a profit to make.

"Why's that?"
Spot pursed his lips. "Guess rich people feel more sorry for goils than boys... that's all," he said quietly.
It was the side of town that Darcy found the best selling and well, Spot had noticed the girls tended to sell better over there. It just brought back some unpleasant memories he supposed.
"There's quite a few good corners that shouldn't be taken." Several girls did sell over there, but that didn't mean all the best spots were taken. "I'd suggest pickin' a corner near the shops. It tends ta be fairly busy over there. Shouldn't have a bit of trouble sellin' all those," he motioned to her stack of papers. "Tip good too."

"Guess rich people feel more sorry for goils than boys... that's all."
Lacey nodded. She didn't want to push any more information about the subject, so she quickly dropped it.
"There's quite a few good corners that shouldn't be taken. I'd suggest pickin' a corner near the shops. It tends ta be fairly busy over there. Shouldn't have a bit of trouble sellin' all those. Tip good too."
She nodded, flashing him a faint smile. As much as she didn't want to go selling at all that day, she knew that she had to, and she had quite a bit more to sell that day than normal. She couldn't afford to waste time in order to try talking to Spot more. "Got it. Thanks for the tips." She grinned. If she could get some good tips, then it would be worth the extra work. If not, she would just have to work harder to catch up again.
"So, um... I guess I should probably get goin'. I'll talk to ya later tanight then?" She asked, a slightly hopeful lilt to her voice.

"Got it. Thanks for the tips."
Spot felt a bit sheepish. "Aw well... Not much of a tip per say."
He just told her what he knew. Not sure if what he said would actually help her. But who knew? He certainly hoped it helped her. She had alot of papers to sell. Spot would hate for her to have wasted money for not be ing able to sell her big stack.
"So, um... I guess I should probably get goin'. I'll talk to ya later tanight then?"
He scrunched up his nose ever so slightly. He should probably be heading to his selling spot just as Lacey was... He just didn't really feel like it. "Yeah... got papes ta sell." He tipped his hat to her. "Mmm... later tonight," he agreed, secretly excited at the thought.
It was strange, but Spot wasn't about to worry about such feelings. It looked like today was going to be a good day.

"Aw well... Not much of a tip per say."
Lacey laughed, "It helped, I think. I wouldn't have thought much about goin' to the rich part of town. That ain't usually my style." She shrugged. If it helped, then great. If not, she knew that she had a few regulars, and maybe she could head to one of the factories and catch people when they came out there. The only problem would be a huge amount of competition.
"Yeah... got papes ta sell. Mmm... later tonight."
It was an exciting feeling in Lacey's stomach. It was like an eruption of butterflies from the excitement, although she didn't know exactly what was going to happen. There was room for things to go downhill, although she was determined to make sure that she did see Spot that night. After the night before, she definitely felt as though spending time with him would be fun, whether they investigated the map more or not.
"Bye, Spot." She grinned slightly, bowing her head briefly before making her way towards the unfamiliar, upscale side of town, although she was reluctant to leave.

Spot cracked a small smile. "Well, glad it helped. 'm not one ta go over ta the rich part of town either."
He liked staying in his own area. He had been to the rich side of down a few times to scout out the area and check up on newsies, but he really didn't care to sell over there.
"Bye, spot."
"Bye, Lacey," he grinned back, happy to see her grinning as they two went there separate ways to sell. He hoped both of them would have a good selling day.

"Well, glad it helped. 'm not one ta go over ta the rich part of town either."
Lacey smiled faintly, "That's understandable. It ain't really our speed, I guess. Maybe it'll be good though." She shrugged. If selling on the rich side of town helped her make more money, then she would have to look into selling there more often.
"Bye, Lacey."
It was a bit sad to walk away from Spot, although she was excited to get things underway. Selling that day wasn't too bad at all, and by the time she was done, she only had two papers left, both of which she managed to sell on her way back towards the familiar part of Brooklyn... in the direction of the lodging houses.
[So sorry about the wait. Things got really hectic this week in my family so roleplaying was kind of the last thing on my mind.]

"That's understandable. It ain't really our speed, I guess. Maybe it'll be good though."
Spot nodded, shrugging lightly. "Wish ya the best."
And he really did... But now it was time to sell his own stack of papers. It didn't take too long. He was a quick seller, another reason why he was probably chosen as the next leader. He liked to sell as fast as possible so he could check on his boys and gals. And well, he didn't always like the hustle and bustle of selling papers. Although he might not seem like it, Spot was actual a more introverted quiet type.
((No problem. I figured life popped in. It's understandable. College keeps me busy too.))

[Yeah, my parents had a few things going on, so that's been kind of ugh. It shouldn't happen again!]
"Wish ya the best."
Lacey didn't truly know why what Spot said affected her at all, much less in the way that it did. Her heart fluttered, and for a moment, it felt a bit nauseating - in the best way that one could experience such a feeling. She brushed it off, managing to not think about it until her walk back towards the lodging house slowed to a halt next to a familiar abandoned building from the night before.
While she didn't move any closer to it, Lacey didn't move any further away, either. A sense of curiosity settled within her, although she knew that she shouldn't be doing anything with the warehouse without Spot around to make sure that it was safe. But had there really been something there? Were they even dangerous?
Step by step, Lacey inched toward the dark, looming building.

Spot had decided to head over to the lodges to wait for Lacey after he had finished selling. She probably would be a little while since she had bought more papers than normal. He didn't want to get caught standing in front of the girls' lodge so he waited a good ways away that wouldn't be too suspicious and would be easy for him to see Lacey. But after a couple of hours... Lacey never showed up. This worried Spot. Where could she be? Maybe selling hadn't gone so well... He better go check on her. He might not like the rich side of town, but he really should check up on her. The building seemed just as dark and gloomy as the night before for Lacey, with the exception that it was now daylight. Perhaps with the bit of sunshine it did look a little less scary? But it seemed as if something had just slipped into the back of the building. ((Totally understandable! Family and stuff happens. Hate it but eh, we all deal with it. Just glad to know that you'll be on more often now. ))

[Me too! I enjoy being on here ] When Lacey made her way to the back of the building, squeezing in through the small opening wasn't too difficult. She pulled her auburn hair over her shoulder, swallowing thickly as she began making her way further into the warehouse. It was still creepy, despite the fact that there were small holes of light streaming in, the windows being covered to the point where no light could escape through them, and dust having congealed over the coverings. It was a terrible place to be, and all of the dust made Lacey's nose itch. Her movements were slow, moving back towards where she and Spot had stopped yesterday. There had to be something there...

Spot was growing frustrated as he made his way through the nicer side of Brooklyn. None of the newsies he bumped into seemed to have seen Lacey, not to mention he had found several birds of his slacking off. As if things weren't bad enough... He was getting worried about Lacey. Had something happened? He hoped she hadn't gotten into trouble on her account. He had to keep looking. It had been some time since he had last been over here. Maybe he was just missing her. Or maybe she was back at the lodge by now? He would finish looking here before he headed back to the lodge.
Strangely, the building had a bit of light. And it wasn't because of the bits of sunlight peeking through the openings in the roof. It seemed like somewhere towards the middle of the building someone had lit a lamp. Low, quiet voices were murmuring. It seemed as if there were several people there, but they hadn't noticed Lacey quite yet.

Immediately when Lacey began hearing soft murmurs from somewhere in the room, Lacey froze in place. Her feet were planted, slowly inching behind a few of the large boxes in order to avoid being detected. She could hear her heart beating inside her head, although she managed to make herself stop and listen to what was being said.
She couldn't make out very much of what was being said, although she made out a few key words, including 'Queens,' 'Rip,' and 'Spot.' The real worries came upon hearing her own leader's name, and she could feel herself tense. Was Spot in danger? Who were these people, and what did they want? Why were they in Brooklyn when it seemed quite obvious that they were from Queens? Was this part of Rip's plan to attack Spot?
Rising to her feet, Lacey's escape was hasty and not quite silent. She remained as quiet as she could, scrambling to the door and practically diving out of the opening, shooting back towards the actual street, panting heavily as she did so. She was a bit dizzy from the worry and sudden rush of adrenaline, although the only thing on her mind now was finding Spot. Something was happening there, and it wasn't anything good.

Spot was huffing as he made his way back to the lodges. Apparently, he had missed Lacey somehow. One of the girls he bumped into informed him that Lacey had gone back to the lodge. He had been worried over nothing. He just missed seeing her. It wasn't like Lacey always had to report to him. He was being ridiculous. He continued to inwardly scold himself as he made his way back home.
The voices immediately hushed as they heard a something knock over.
Calls of "who's there?" echoed after Lacey followed by a "Go after whoever that was, Lighter!" Whoever it was, they were going to chase Lacey down. Their footsteps weren't too far behind her as she scrambled out the door.
"Wait right there!" a rather feminine voice called out angrily.

"Wait right there!"
Panic set in almost immediately as Lacey heard the unfamiliar voice behind her. She hadn't had time to catch her breath, but her reaction was immediate: She bolted.
Lacey wasn't stupid in the slightest. She knew that trying to handle the situation at that point without Spot was stupid. She didn't want to do it alone. She felt safe with him, and as she ran, Lacey felt as though her chest was closing up. Her breathing was labored, and her muscles ached.
I have to get back to Spot...

Spot made it back to the lodge and checked the log book. Seemed like all the boys had signed back in. Though he didn't understand this sinking feeling in his stomach. Something just wasn't right. But it couldn't be Lacey? The girl did say she went back to the lodge. So why did he still feel worried? Maybe he should head back out.
Behind Lacey, Lighter didn't seem to be giving up. Lacey bolting had caught her off guard, but she wasn't about to give up. They couldn't have things getting out of hand. It'd be dangerous. Lucky for her, she had always been quite the speedster plus she knew Brooklyn like the back of her hand. There were ways to catch up to Lacey if this she ended up being to fast for Lighter.

Making her way around a corner, Lacey shot a quick glance behind her, her long hair flowing behind her in the wind from the running. Running wasn't something that Lacey did all that much, and she was beginning to feel it in a way that she didn't normally feel things. She didn't feel all that great, but she kept going anyway.
The girl behind her appeared to be gaining on her, and Lacey could barely breathe. The cool air from outside made her lungs feel like they were shriveling up as she was gasping for air, and finally, she just slowed to a stop, collapsing onto her knees. The lodging houses were nearby, although her legs were beginning to give out on her, and she had to stop. She had to face whoever this girl was, and if she could find out information about what was going on, then great.
"I didn't hear anything." She exhaled, still desperately trying to catch her breath, her lungs gasping for air as her bright hazel eyes flickered upwards to the unfamiliar girl's. Where is Spot?

"I didn't hear anything."
The girl raised an eyebrow. "Then why did ya run?" she asked, frowning up at the somewhat taller girl. Lighter was surprisingly young. Probably around ten or eleven at the youngest. Lacey could probably easily over power the small girl.
Spot decided to head back outside. There was something off... He needed to investigate. His gut feelings were rarely wrong. He just needed to find out what exactly his gut was trying to help him. He hurried out of the lodge and headed down the street. He knew something definitely was up as he spotted some not so familiar newsies slinking in the shadows running away from where he was. Perhaps the direction from where they were coming from would be the best trail to follow.
