"No, I really feel like I overstepped. I guess I'm so used ta bein' leader an' people just doin' things like I said, that I thought you'd be like that too. Maybe I haven't given enough time for you ta trust me an' take my word for it. Or maybe I just assumed too much about our friendship. I thought I had the right as your leader ta tell you what ta do an' I'm sorry for bossin' ya around."
Lacey was a bit stunned by the apology. She hadn't really expected something like that from Spot, since he had the tendency to be unforgiving and a bit cold, but that didn't mean that it wasn't nice. Lacey really appreciated him stepping back for a moment, and she finally felt as though things would be able to go back to normal between the pair of them.
"Don't apologize. Really." She flashed him a small smile. "It don't really matter ta me... I just got angry in the moment over nothin' at all."
"Yeah... probably would be a good idea."
Lacey walked with Spot silently, her hands stuffed into the pockets of her coat. "Oh, and I have somethin' for ya... It's a little late now, but I wanted ta make it real nice... Maybe you could use it next winter." She bit her lip. "I can get it when we get there, if you're willin' ta wait a minute..."

"Don't apologize. Really. It don't really matter ta me... I just got angry in the moment over nothin' at all."
Spot shrugged. "It mattered to me," he said quietly. "I wanted to make things right."
"Oh, and I have somethin' for ya... It's a little late now, but I wanted ta make it real nice... Maybe you could use it next winter. I can get it when we get there, if you're willin' ta wait a minute..."
He raised an eyebrow, slightly curious as he nodded. "I can wait."
He felt a little awkward that she wanted to give him something. Girls had given him gifts, but with Lacey it just felt a little different.

"It mattered to me. I wanted to make things right."
Lacey coughed, hiding her blush behind her mess of dark red hair. "I would say things are right with me... I hope they're right with you, too, 'cause I'm not sure that I can say much more..."
"I can wait."
"I wouldn't get your hopes up too high," She bit her lip, "It's nothin' too nice or anythin'..."
Once they reached the lodging house, Lacey raced inside, coming out with a present wrapped in brown paper, with a lopsided bow tied on top. She had struggled a bit with the wrapping and presentation, although when she had finally completed the scarf that she had promised to make for him earlier in the winter, she hadn't cared much about that. She was glad that she could finally give him a gift of thanks for everything. He could have never made her a bird, and she was grateful for that. Hopefully, the scarf would be warm enough and nice enough to repay him for that.
Handing it over to him, Lacey flashed him a bashful, crooked grin. "It ain't much... But I tried my best."

"I would say things are right with me... I hope they're right with you, too, 'cause I'm not sure that I can say much more..."
Spot nodded a bit. "That's good ta hear... glad things could straighten out."
It hadn't quite gone the way he had thought, but at least it seemed like things worked out in the end. Jack's advice was proven solid.
"I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. It's nothin' too nice or anythin'..."
"I'm sure it's just fine," he assured her.
"It ain't much... But I tried my best."
He looked at the bag curiously. "Do you mind if I opened it now?" he asked politely, unsure if she wanted him to wait or just get it over with now. He was still a bit surprised at her gift.

"That's good ta hear... glad things could straighten out."
Lacey nodded quickly. She couldn't imagine fighting with Spot. No matter what else they were, and how strange her feelings for him seemed to feel, she couldn't imagine losing him as a friend because of such a stupid fight. She didn't want to lose him at all.
"I'm sure it's just fine."
She quirked a smile, "I sure hope so."
"Do you mind if I opened it now?"
Lacey laughed, "Acourse ya can open it now... I think I should be here just in case I'll be havin' ta take it back. If you don't want it, then I could give it ta one of my brothers or somethin'." She shrugged. In all honesty, Lacey wanted to see Spot's reaction. She wanted to see if he liked it, or hated it, or whatever he felt. She just wanted to see him react to something that she had done for him... So that she could gauge exactly what was going on between them.

"I sure hope so."
He just gave her a small smile. No matter what the gift was, he would accept it gratefully.

Spot raised an eyebrow ever so slightly, why would he give it back? He wasn't one to reject gifts, but ah, Lacey wouldn't know that. His eyes widened slightly as he pulled out the scarf. "Wow..." he said softly, admiring the stitching. "It's real nice."
He wrapped it around his arm some. "And warm too." He gave her a soft smile. "Thank you, I really appreciate it. Nice of you ta make this for me."

"Wow... It's real nice. And warm too."
Lacey was beaming as she watched him, glad that he liked the present that she had worked so many nights on. It hadn't taken her a terribly long time, considering she never worked on it very long on any given night, but she had been determined to finish it for him before winter officially ended. She had managed that, and she was happy with that. "Ya really mean it? Ya like it?"
"Thank you, I really appreciate it. Nice of you ta make this for me."
She smiled brightly, once again fighting back a faint blush. "Yeah... It's my pleasure. I figure it might be nice ta have ya be able ta go down ta the docks in the wintertime and have somethin' else ta keep ya a little bit warmer... Plus, ya said you'd like one, and I promised I'd make it for ya... So there ya go." She was mumbling a bit, and she didn't even know if Spot could understand her, but it was mainly due to her inability to wipe the bright, relieved grin from her face.

"Ya really mean it? Ya like it?"
Spot nodded. "I really do," he assured. "It'll be perfect for the rest of winter."
It would really keep him warm when he sold the evening editions. Morning were cold but bearable. The evening were a different story.
"Yeah... It's my pleasure. I figure it might be nice ta have ya be able ta go down ta the docks in the wintertime and have somethin' else ta keep ya a little bit warmer... Plus, ya said you'd like one, and I promised I'd make it for ya... So there ya go."
He smiled though he was surprised that she had remembered his remark back in the earlier months of winter. "Well... Thank you. It's great. You really didn't have ta. But I do appreciate it. I know it'll serve me well." As if to confirm the remark, he wrapped the scarf around his neck. "Stay warm," was his goodbye.

"I really do. It'll be perfect for the rest of winter."
Lacey grinned brightly. She was glad that all of her hard work had paid off in the end. She felt as though it was a nice way for her to make up for the arguing earlier... She had acted like a child. Hopefully this would help.
"Well... Thank you. It's great. You really didn't have ta. But I do appreciate it. I know it'll serve me well."
She smiled a bit. Anything for you... "It looks good on ya... It brings out your eyes." She mumbled, watching him as he put it on. It made his eyes seem an even brighter baby blue, and it seemed perfect to her.
"Stay warm."
Nodding a bit, Lacey flashed him another small smile. "You too, Spot... I'm glad ya like it." Waving for a brief moment, she made her way back into the main lodging area of the girl's house to her bunk.
