Spot made his way to the docks. Surprisingly enough, it was quiet. The boys must have chosen to hang out closer to the bridge than around the docks. That suited him just fine. He needed to clear his head. He climbed up to his usual lookout spot, enjoying the small breeze that passed over. Here, he had a decent view of the whole borough. It wasn't the best view, but good enough for him.

Lacey had taken a moment to go back inside the lodge to grab the wallet that Rip had given her. There were only a few coins inside, but they were pretty good coins, enough to buy at least a couple hundred papes over the span of a few days.
The docks were relatively silent, even though the temperature outside was still rather hot. It made it easy to find Spot, however, with him being essentially the only one sitting on the docks. She was cautious to approach, but she did anyway, taking a seat beside him and holding the wallet out to him.
"It's, uh, not much, but maybe it could make ya feel better? Just some extra cash?" Of course, Lacey didn't figure that it was the case, but she wanted more than anything to try dispelling some of the tension between them.
"Ya know, I really am sorry." She whispered after another short pause, fidgeting a bit but managing to keep her eyes on Spot, even without eye contact. "I just wanted ta try makin' things easier on you, and I wasn't thinkin'... I just thought that if I could deal with Rip, then you wouldn't have ta, and you'd be safe."

"It's, uh, not much, but maybe it could make ya feel better? Just some extra cash?"
Spot wasn't surprised to hear someone approaching him, but he was slightly surprised to see who it was. He didn't answer Lacey or accept her offer. He merely motioned that she was welcome to stay if that was what she wanted to.
"Ya know, I really am sorry."
He remained silent, watching some of the boys in he distance going off to sell the evening edition. More of of them were selling in the evening since it was so much cooler and easier to sell then.
"I just wanted ta try makin' things easier on you, and I wasn't thinkin'..."
Spot snorted softly. It wasn't an angry one. He was just agreeing that she certainly hadn't been thinking things through.
"I just thought that if I could deal with Rip, then you wouldn't have ta, and you'd be safe."
He stood up and leaned against the railing, looking at the glass bottles that the adult workers had left scattered around. He reached for his slingshot and twirled it around subconsciously.
"Rip isn't someone to be easily dealt wit'," he said quietly, breaking the uncomfortable silence.
He dug out an old marble from his pocket and stuck it in his sling. It didn't take long to find a good target.
"What goes on wit' Rip, is between him and me."
The sound of his marble breaking the glass was somehow a comforting sound.
"I ain't goin' in alone against him." Spot pocketed his slingshot. "Jack's got my back. I won't be makin' the same mistakes of the past."

"Rip isn't someone to be easily dealt wit'."
Lacey sighed softly. She was glad to hear that Spot was still willing to speak with her, but she hated the fact that this silence wasn't the usual comfortable silence that the pair could share.
"What goes on wit' Rip, is between him and me."
She nodded slowly. She understood that. She had just been trying to help, and it had gone badly. But she hadn't gotten hurt. That was the important thing.
"I ain't goin' in alone against him. Jack's got my back. I won't be makin' the same mistakes of the past."
Again, Lacey nodded, closing her eyes tightly and staying silent for another few moments. Finally, however, she spoke once again. "Spot?"

"Spot?"
He glanced behind him at Lacey. He had to admit... he was glad she came. It was good to see that she was safe. To know she was here and not in Queens.
"Yeah?"

"Yeah?"
Slowly, Lacey rose to her feet so that she could approach him once more. She wasn't fully used to things like this. Relationships, even with the amount of time that she had been with Spot, were still new to her, and she was feeling her way around based on what she had seen, rather than experience.
"I think..." She swallowed thickly, her voice suddenly growing quieter as she took a step or two to grow closer to where he was. Her hand carefully reached out and took his free hand, the warmth of his hand calming her a bit.
"I think... I love you."

"I think..."
Spot turned to face her. There was something about the tone of her voice that seemed important. He looked at her curiously as she took his hand.
"I think... I love you."
Well, that wasn't exactly what he had been expecting. What was he supposed to say back? I love you too? Not that he didn't! He did... love her. But he was a man! He didn't just say 'I love you' right off that bat. Or should he? He never had been in a relationship before. What was he supposed to do? Or say? After all, they had just had a pretty big argument too. He didn't know what to do or say...

There was a small pit that formed in her stomach at the silence, although Lacey couldn't truly say that she had been expecting anything else. They had been arguing, and the day before had been a hard one to get through. It would have almost been strange to her if he had said it back after all of that.
However, there was a small pang in her chest as she exhaled slowly. "I should... I should go." She figured that it was only polite to leave at that point, especially considering Spot had come there to be alone. So, letting go of his hand she took another step back. "I, uh... Sorry, again." She took another step back, turning quickly to walk away once more.

"I should... I should go."
Spot knew he made a mistake. He wasn't sure what it was. It could have been what he had said... or rather, what he had not said.
"Don't." He hesitated and held onto her hand. "Don't go."
"I, uh... Sorry, again."
He shook his head. "Don't worry about that anymore," he said softly. "Just... don't do something like that again."
Spot almost said it had scared him, but he decided he wouldn't... not at this time.

[ so sorry! brother dragged me out to lunch. ]
"Don't. Don't go."
Truthfully, that was all that Lacey needed to feel comfortable again in the situation. Spot didn't need to say anything for her to feel loved, or at least cared for. Slowly, she nodded, the faintest of smiles gracing her lips once again.
"Don't worry about that anymore. Just... don't do something like that again."
Lacey nodded. She wouldn't. She didn't feel as though the events that happened because of it were worth it. Spot meant more to her than trying to be independent and prove herself, and if he was promising that he wouldn't do anything stupid on her own, then she would promise the same thing.
Her arms almost subconsciously wrapped around his body, however, searching for a bit more of that comfort that he always seemed to give her. She buried her face into the crook of his neck with a sigh, gripping onto him just a bit tighter. "I won't. I promise."

Spot felt relieved as Lacey nodded and gave him a small smile. She wasn't going to leave... she wasn't going to do something stupid again.
"I won't. I promise."
She wrapped her arms around him, and for some reason, he found himself doing the same to her. "Good..."
He didn't know what he'd do if she did something like this again. He might go crazy. He might even go up against Rip despite Jack's advice not to. But he wouldn't. Lacey promised that she wouldn't do anything stupid so neither would he.
((That's fine. No worries!))

"Good..."
It was easy to relax now that things seemed to have been put behind them. Lacey hated fighting with people, especially people that she cared about as much as she cared about Spot.
Truthfully, she could have stayed exactly where she was right then for the rest of her life and been completely happy. However, she knew that eventually it would have to end, so she just tried to draw it out for as long as she could.

It was silent between the two of them. But for once, it was back to the comfortable quietness. They had a long day... and night. It was all behind them now. At least, Spot hoped it would be. He wasn't sure he was ready for something like this to ever happen again. He didn't like arguing. It was hard... and frustrating. He'd rather be caught up in a fist-fight. He knew what to do there.

The silence continued on for a good long time, and Lacey was a bit hesitant to break it. However, she did eventually pull away from the embrace with a sigh, biting her lip again.
"About that 'I love you' thing, too, I didn't... I didn't mean to make things uncomfortable." She ran her fingers through her hair. She didn't fully know what she was going on about, but she was a bit paranoid that things could become strange if she just left it up in the air like that when it could have easily been too soon to say it. She didn't know much about timing when it came to things like that.

"About that 'I love you' thing, too, I didn't... I didn't mean to make things uncomfortable."
Spot shrugged, placing his hands in his pockets and looking out at the water. "It's fine."
He wasn't bothered. Surprised, yeah, but not bothered. Maybe a little uncomfortable, but not in a bad way. She didn't need to explain herself.
"It's fine," he repeated to reassure her.
Things were as back to normal as they could be under the circumstances.

"It's fine."
Lacey was still a bit cautious, but she didn't want to argue anymore. They had done enough of that today to last them a lifetime.
"It's fine."
She nodded slowly. If he said that it was fine, then she would do her best to believe him. Biting her lip, she nodded slowly. "Should I leave you alone for a while?"

"Should I leave you alone for a while?"
Spot just shrugged. He really did not want to be alone... but then he did need some time to rethink a few things.
"It's up to you."
Part of him wanted her to stay, so he could keep an eye on her. But, she had promised she wouldn't get into trouble. She wouldn't break a promise and not that soon, right? Trust had been lost... but the promise had healed the wound a little.

"It's up to you."
Lacey could tell that there was still some healing to be done. They would both need time to think for completely different reasons, but Lacey was hoping that things could work out soon. She didn't want things to be awkward.
Swallowing thickly, she took a seat on the edge of the dock again. She figured that she could stay... But she didn't need to say anything to him if he didn't want to talk. Hopefully, that would give them both time to clear their heads and relax a bit more.

Spot was glad she hadn't left, or at least, didn't seem to be leaving anytime soon. He wasn't going to let her go far out of his sight again.
Alot of this whole mess had been his fault. He should have been watching himself and Lacey. He had accidentally let her see that he was worried. He wouldn't let that happen again. Also, he should have been keeping a closer eye on her while talking with Jack. He knew she was too curious for her own good. That mean he should have been watching her closer.
Yes, yes, she promised that she wouldn't do something like that again. He knew she promised, but that didn't mean he couldn't keep an eye on her. You know, just in case. It was better to be safe than sorry. He had learned that one too many times in the past before he became a leader and then after... with Darcy.

It was tough, knowing that things would likely never be the same between her and Spot again. She had broken his trust and gone after Rip, and something told Lacey that Darcy had done the same. She hasn’t meant to bring up memories like that. She felt terrible about it.
But for now, she just hoped that things could be okay again. She stared out at the water, watching it ripple and glisten in the sunlight. It really was a beautiful day, with a cool evening breeze and the sun still making it comfortably warm.

For the next half hour, Spot was quiet. He just watched over Brooklyn, making sure the boys weren't getting into trouble. He also was thinking about how he wanted the borders of Brooklyn changed. He would probably need to draw it out once he got back to the lodge. But visualizing it was good for now.
He wasn't just checking on the borders though. He was also watching some of the boys. It was time to think about picking out someone to train up as the next leader.

It was nice, in a way, having things be quiet for a little while. Lacey had eventually laid back on the dock to look at the clouds above them, as the sky was beginning to darken just a bit and turn a beautiful mix of colors. It was comfortable silence, being there and not saying anything, but just knowing that Spot was there with her.
She would have to try harder when it came to getting better. She would have to get him something or do something nice for him before she would feel better about their relationship again... She just hoped that Spot wouldn't mind.

Spot sighed a bit as it got darker. Well, he was able to plan out the border lines for the most part. Finding a leader? He didn't have much luck there.
He glanced over to see Lacey looking up at the sky. She seemed deep in thought, it would be a shame to interrupt, but she probably should be heading back to the lodge to get some dinner.
"Hey," he said softly, crouching beside her. "It's gettin' late."

"Hey."
Lacey snapped out of her trance, turning her head a bit to meet Spot's eyes above her.
"It's gettin' late."
She hadn't fully processed that it was getting as late as it was. Slowly, she nodded, sitting up and stretching out a bit before standing up. "Thanks." She mumbled, blinking the sleep from her eyes and flashing him a small smile.

"Thanks."
Spot nodded, shrugging some. "It's almost dinner time."
He motioned with his head that he'd walk her back to the lodge. He was planning on heading to his lodge anyways. He needed to get that map drawn out and dinner would be nice. He wondered if Mr. O'Quinn had made anything for the boys.
