"Absolutely."
Spot couldn't help but smile at her. "So what were you thinkin'?" he asked as he took her hand.
Somehow, it wasn't so cold out now that he wasn't alone with his work.

"So what were you thinkin'?"
She grinned, "There's a little cafe nearby... I could buy ya somethin' there. My brother took me there for my birthday a few years ago." If he had something else that he would rather do, then of course she wasn't going to argue, but she figured that it could be nice giving him an option to pick something that he liked.

"There's a little cafe nearby... I could buy ya somethin' there. My brother took me there for my birthday a few years ago."
Spot nodded a bit. He knew that cafe. It had been quite some time since he had last been there... "Sounds good ta me. It's a nice place."
It was fairly new to the area. It had been there for maybe eight years? Spot remembered when he was much younger, you had to go to Manhattan to go to a nice little place to eat. It was really nice to have something in Brooklyn.

"Sounds good ta me. It's a nice place."
Lacey nodded. It was one of the only places that she knew was going to still be open and possibly not too crowded, so she figured that it would work. She had a couple dollars that she could spend, and she just wanted to make Spot happy.
Rising from where she had been sitting beside the fire, she held out her hand for him to take. "Let's go then."

Thank goodness it wasn't too far. Not that either really noticed how cold it was. They were both just happy to be in each other's company.

"Sounds good ta me."
She beamed, interlacing their fingers and making her way back outside. Lacey always felt warmer when she was around Spot--she figured that it was just something that came along with that "semi-new couple" sort of glow that everyone would talk about.
It was a bit hard being with Spot at times, just considering how many of the girls would still talk about how handsome he was, or how much they liked him. It wasn't as bad as it had used to be, but it was definitely enough to make Lacey feel insecure from time to time. Perhaps that was why she was so determined to make sure that she didn't miss something like his birthday and give him a reason to not want to be with her anymore. She already felt like an underdog compared to some of the girls in Brooklyn, and there were plenty of other people who would insist that Spot just wasn't the type to really love anyone. There were times when she believed it... but she did her best to keep herself calm and collected despite everything.
She stayed close beside him as they walked, the cafe within view maybe a hundred yards or so from where they had left. It wasn't far, but it was a nice place.

Spot's heart always felt lighter when with Lacey. He supposed Jack and Thunder had been right... he had been missing a little something in his life.
He smiled as they reached the cafe. It was always open later in the evenings than most of the other little restaurants in the area. Being the gentleman that he was, he opened the door for Lacey.
"After you."

"After you."
Lacey grinned a bit, heading into the cafe just before Spot. Almost instantly when they came in, an old man looked up from his place back by the kitchen with a small smile, gesturing for them to take a seat anywhere they wanted.
Lacey led Spot to a booth in the corner, with a fireplace burning nearby. She figured that the warmth would be nice, even despite the fact that she was more than likely going to be getting something warm for herself, as well.

Lacey picked a nice spot. It was secluded and out of sight from the front door. Not that he was hiding, but Spot liked privacy. It was also next to the warm fire. These days fires were very precious. Fall was almost at its end and winter was hot at its heels.
Spot nodded politely as a waiter gave them their menus. He wasn't really hungry. Before going to the borders, he had gotten a quick bite to eat at the lodge. Right now, something warm to drink would really be nice.
"A cup of coffee," he ordered after glancing through the menu. He had quite the thing for coffee. So much in fact, that Mr. O'Quinn hid his stash of coffee. At the lodge, coffee was off limits for Spot until Mr. O'Quinn deemed Spot worthy of a sharing a cup of coffee with.

"A cup of coffee."
Lacey quirked a small smile as Spot ordered, being well aware of the effects of caffeine on him from what she had heard from her brothers about Spot and coffee, but she didn't say anything. If she could buy him something that he enjoyed, then that was what she would do.
"I'll have the same please." She smiled a bit as she ordered, and the old man nodded, taking their menus and heading to the kitchen to brew some coffee for the couple.

"I'll have the same please."
Spot's eyes lit up briefly as Lacey also ordered coffee. "You like coffee too?"
Most of the boys thought coffee tasted nasty. They were all eager to try the more "adult" drink, but in the end, they found it to be rather foul tasting. They would rather have hot cocoa or tea or something. However, Spot liked it and seemed to sadly be the only newsies who liked it.

"You like coffee too?"
Seeing Spot's eyes light up brought a smile to Lacey's lips. It was cute, getting to see Spot do simple things like that, though he probably never thought much of it.
"Not as much as you, apparently, but yes." It was definitely up there, probably right up next to tea. She had always enjoyed tea when it came to the winters, just because caffeine could make her mildly crazy, but if Spot was having it, then she figured that it was fine that she could, too.

"Not as much as you, apparently, but yes."
Spot gave her a sheepish grin. He knew his love for coffee was no secret, but still, he was thrilled to know that he wasn't the only one who liked coffee.
"Ah... the boys enjoy talkin' about that too muc." He sighed a bit. "An' Mr. O'Quinn won't share his coffee in the mornings."
He supposed it served him right for drinking so much, but he couldn't help but be a little irritated with the lodge owner.

"Ah... the boys enjoy talkin' about that too much."
She shrugged, shooting him a grin back. They definitely talked, but she always enjoyed hearing those sorts of stories from people.
"An' Mr. O'Quinn won't share his coffee in the mornings."
Lacey laughed, "I think that may be a good thing... just sayin'."

"I think that may be a good thing... just sayin'."
Spot made a face. "That's basically what Mr. O'Quinn said... but I jus' can't do mornin's without it," he admitted.
So he had a problem... but weren't there more important things to be worried about than his addiction to coffee?
((Hey, I would looove to keep going, but I got a school assignment to do that's due tonight ^^;; I'll be back on as soon as I'm done!))

"That's basically what Mr. O'Quinn said... but I jus' can't do mornin's without it."
Lacey grinned, "Ya seem ta be doin' just fine ta me. Ya don't seem any different beyond bein' stressed about the borders."
Of course, she wished that she could help him with that, but there wasn't really anything that he could do. He was on his own, as much as she hated it, though she would help with anything that she could.
[Good luck! I'll be here!]

"Ya seem ta be doin' just fine ta me."
Spot snorted. "You should see me in the mornin's then."
"Ya don't seem any different beyond bein' stressed about the borders."
He made a face before glancing down at his pocket that contained his little maps. It was taking much longer than he liked. And well, it was time to talk things through with the other leaders as well as discuss the possibilities of another strike if Pulitzer and Hurst kept this up again.

"You should see me in the mornin's then."
Lacey grinned a bit, "I'd love ta start my day seein' you."
Of course, the hint of flirtiness behind her words startled her a bit, but the words were still incredibly genuine.
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Cloud told me ta tell ya that he may stay in 'Hattan tanight. Somethin' 'bout playin' cards?" She was relieved that she had remembered, and hopefully it would be enough to get Spot's mind off of the borders once more. She just wanted to give him a nice night.

”I’d love ta start my day seein’ you.”
Spot raised an eyebrow, not sure if she was teasing or serious... or both?
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot, Cloud told me ta tell ya that he may stay in 'Hattan tanight. Somethin' 'bout playin' cards?"
He pursed his lips slightly before nodding. “Yeah... he had mentioned about promising ta teach some boys a few games sometime. With the weather bein’ like it is... probably best for him to stay there the night.”
But sadly that meant he’d be down a bird for a day or two.
“Oh speaking of almost forgetting...” He gave her an apologetic smile. “Could you do me a favor?”

“Yeah... he had mentioned about promising ta teach some boys a few games sometime."
She nodded. She and Cloud didn't talk much beyond typical bird sort of things, keeping track of everything that was happen and splitting up tasks from time to time.
"With the weather bein’ like it is... probably best for him to stay there the night.”
That was true. It definitely wasn't something where Cloud should have been walking all the way back home at night.
“Oh speaking of almost forgetting... Could you do me a favor?”
Lacey frowned a bit, but nodded. "Whatdya need?"

”Whatdya need?”
Spot pursed his lips. “I’d like ya ya check on Opera. She’s been late for selling the past few days. It ain’t like her to be late so many times in one week,” he explained. “I’d like for you ya see if anything’s wrong.”
After all, they couldn’t be too careful these days. He prides himself on being a leader that watched out for all his newsies.
“I don’t need ta know any details. Just let me know if there’s trouble and I can take care of it.”

Opera. She knew of her, though the pair of them had never talked much. She figured that it wouldn't be hard to check up on things, maybe stay behind to see what was happening if Opera didn't want to talk.
“I’d like for you ya see if anything’s wrong.”
Lacey nodded slowly. That was definitely something that she could do.
“I don’t need ta know any details. Just let me know if there’s trouble and I can take care of it.”
She nodded a bit, biting down gently onto her bottom lip. There always seemed to be trouble in Brooklyn these days... it all made her nervous. "I can do that."

"I can do that."
Spot gave her a grateful look. "I really appreciate it. I know she ain't normally late... so don't make her feel like she's in trouble."
As of now, she wasn't in trouble. What kept her late, however, could determine if she would get in any trouble. But for the most part, she seemed like a decent newsie. He would have to wait until after Lacey talked with her.
He relaxed a bit more now that that business had been dealt with. And with their coffee's arrival, he was perfectly content.

Lacey scoffed a bit in mock offense, "You think I come off as aggressive?"
Once the coffee had arrived, Lacey took a small sip, allowing the warmth of the cup to warm her hands, as well. It was definitely a good choice.

”You think I come off as aggressive?”
Spot was a bit caught off guard by her comment. “No,” he began slowly. “I just know that Opera looked a bit edgy when she saw that I noticed her bein’ late. So she probably knows I’d be sendin’ you or one of the other goil birds ya see what’s been keepin’ her lately.”
