"No."
Lacey raised an eyebrow. She wasn't going to argue, but she wasn't sure if she believed him completely.
“I just know that Opera looked a bit edgy when she saw that I noticed her bein’ late. So she probably knows I’d be sendin’ you or one of the other goil birds ya see what’s been keepin’ her lately.”
She nodded a bit, biting her lip. Of course, she would have to be gentle in her approach with Opera, but she would do her best. "Gotcha."

”Gotcha.”
Spot gave her a small smile, “Thanks. I really appreciate it.”
He sipped his coffee, enjoying it while it lasted, it was a real treat. He could really enjoy this moment knowing that Lacey could take care of the girls for him. And just for a few moments... there was peace in Brooklyn.

“Thanks. I really appreciate it.”
"That's my job." She grinned a bit, sipping on her own coffee and glancing out the window. In a way, the moment felt like the peace before a storm was bound to hit, but she didn't want to kill the moment. For now, she would let it lie.

"That's my job."
Spot chuckled. "Sure."
It really was. Lacey helped him keep the girls in line. Of course, there were a few girl birds that he relied on, but not like Lacey. She was different. Alot of things were different now. Some for the better... some not so much. Spot was not so against change now. He was slowly learning that it could be a good thing, but how long would that thinking last with him?

"Sure."
She quirked an eyebrow with a small smile, taking another sip of her coffee. Things had changed in Spot. He was like a different person, and while she loved the person that he had become, part of her worried that the change wouldn't be a good thing if something bad happened. He had connections to people now that could make him weaker, and Lacey didn't want that to come back to bite him later on. They would have to be careful.
"Thanks for lettin' me take ya out... I know ya probably had better stuff ta do." Lacey cleared her throat.

"Thanks for lettin' me take ya out... I know ya probably had better stuff ta do."
Spot cracked a small grin. "No... thank you for takin' me out."
He couldn't quite admit it out loud, but this really was something he needed. Spot was bad at taking time off just to relax as he got older. If he wasn't kept in check, he was sure to overwork himself

"No... thank you for takin' me out."
She grinned a bit, "Wish it was somethin' that I could do more often... but money's scarce."
Things had been tough lately when it came to making ends meet, but she had managed to scrounge up just enough extra to treat Spot to something nice.

"Wish it was somethin' that I could do more often... but money's scarce."
Spot shrugged as he savored the last bit of his coffee. "Yeah... but it's probably best that we save our money for more important things."
He looked down into his now empty cup with a sigh. It was nice while it lasted, but it was really a luxury that he couldn't afford to keep having. There was trouble brewing that he needed to be prepared for.

"Yeah... but it's probably best that we save our money for more important things."
Biting her lip gently, Lacey finished up her own coffee, beginning to count out the coins from her pocket to pay for everything.

Spot sat back, letting Lacey count out her change. He didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable. Instead, he let his mind wander off for a few moments to think about his borough and his family and all of his other priorities.

As soon as she had gotten the correct amount, she pushed it to the edge of the table, allowing the man to come back up and collect it, thanking them briefly for their service and wishing them a good night.
Turning her attention back to Spot, Lacey rose from her seat. "You okay?"

"You okay?"
Spot looked up to see that Lacey had finished paying. "Yeah, fine. Jus' thinking." He got up as well. "I really appreciate it."

"Yeah, fine. Jus' thinking."
Lacey nodded a bit, brushing herself off.
"I really appreciate it."
She couldn't help but beam a bit. "Anythin' for you."

Spot coughed, a bit caught off guard. "Well... it means alot." He gave her a small smile. "Shall I walk you back ta the lodge?"

"Well... it means alot."
She blushed faintly, flashing him another smile. She was still trying to find her footing when it came to what to say and what not to say.
"Shall I walk you back ta the lodge?"
Lacey nodded a bit. "Sounds perfect, thanks."

"Sounds perfect, thanks."
Spot gave her another small smile. "Good." He offered his arm to her before they went back out into the cold evening air.

"Good."
Lacey took his arm, remaining close by his side as they began the walk back to the lodge. "Thanks again."

"Thanks again."
Spot cleared his throat. "It's nothing'... really."
He enjoyed walking with her... and well, he wanted to make sure she stayed safe. It wasn't safe for a girl to walk alone in Brooklyn at night.
He was a bit disappointed that the walk wasn't a long one. It was for the best. If it was too long of a walk, the two of them would get sick from staying out in the cold too long. The distance was just right.
"Well... good night, then. I'll see you tomorrow?"
He might. He might not... it just depended how selling went and if he had any duties to uphold.

"It's nothing'... really."
Lacey nodded a bit, figuring that there was no point in arguing. She liked walking with Spot anyway.
"Well... good night, then. I'll see you tomorrow?"
The walk hadn't been nearly long enough for her liking, but she nodded regardless, removing her arm from where it had been linked with his. "Hopefully." She flashed a small smile, pressing a kiss to his cheek before heading inside for the night.

"Hopefully."
Somehow that simple word and soft kiss to his cheek gave him a hope that he would see Lacey the next day. Or rather... he would make time to go see here.
He stood outside for a few minutes (as long as he dared...) before heading back to his own lodge.
