After walking Lacey back to the girls' lodge later that day, Spot had returned to the boys' lodge. He probably should put those things away. He wasn't planning on going to Queens now. Things had changed back to the way they had been. There was no need to go to Queens to figure out things since they had already been sorted.
He tucked his things away in the bottom-most draw. The boys wouldn't look there for anything. He would just leave those things there to be forgotten. In fact, he even had hidden away some thoughts. Poor Jack... the guy probably was still worried that Spot was going to Queens, but sadly, Spot hadn't even thought about telling his friend about the things that had happened and changed things.

Jack had made his way to Queens the previous night, managing to find Rip and speak to him about the borders and things like that. However, he had also found himself trying to find out about what had been happening over there lately. He had asked around about whether Darcy had been there and whether Rip knew, in broader terms, and everything had finally seemed to come together. However, Jack still couldn't help but worry about Spot.
He honestly didn't come to Brooklyn all that much. Normally, Spot would make the trip to Manhattan if something was wrong, but that day, he felt the need to go and ask Mr. O'Quinn if Spot was there or if he had really gone to Queens. When he had arrived however, the old man had mentioned that Spot was upstairs and had allowed Jack to head up for himself.
"Spot?" He called out upon seeing the familiar boy hunched over by the bed that he presumed belonged to him.

"Spot?"
To say Spot was surprised would be an understatement. The last person in the world he would have expected to be in the boys' lodge in Brooklyn would be Jack. He turned around with a confused expression.
"Jack? Somethin' wrong?"
After all, that would be the only reason for Jack to come over into his borough, right? It was Spot who would cross the border to talk, not Jack. Well, unless there was something he needed help from Brooklyn. Then Jack came over the bridge.

"Jack? Somethin' wrong?"
He cleared his throat. "I went ta Queens. Talked ta Rip about the borders and he said he'd be open ta meetin' up with all the leaders if we could get in touch with all of 'em." Of course, Jack was still wary to have Spot and Rip in the same room, but he was hoping that they would be easy to keep away from one another with all the others there.
"Ya didn't go ta Queens, did ya? And ya ain't gonna?" Jack crossed his arms.

"I went ta Queens. Talked ta Rip about the borders and he said he'd be open ta meetin' up with all the leaders if we could get in touch with all of 'em."
Spot raised an eyebrow and nodded. He was surprised but relieved that Rip agreed to meet up to discuss the borders. "That's good. What leaders do we have left ta contact?"
"Ya didn't go ta Queens, did ya? And ya ain't gonna?"
He gave Jack a sheepish look. "No, I didn't... and I don't plan ta. Not anymore," he promised.
It had totally slipped his mind to let Jack know that he wasn't going to sneak into Queens. He should have known Jack would be worried about that.

"That's good. What leaders do we have left ta contact?"
Jack cleared his throat a bit. That was the complicated thing. "Just Long Island... but I don't know what you're gonna wanna do about that situation."
As far as they were concerned, Long Island was still relatively new territory, and most people didn't want to just run right in and start exploring. It could be more complicated than just that.
"No, I didn't... and I don't plan ta. Not anymore,"
Jack relaxed a bit. "Ya talked things over with your goil then?"

"Just Long Island... but I don't know what you're gonna wanna do about that situation."
Spot made a face. Long Island... It wasn't a dangerous borough like Long Island. At least, not in the same way. You had to be cautious in Long Island because you just didn't know what to expect from them. Most didn't really speak English, just enough to sell. And well, Long Island had kept out of everything for the most part. They had helped during the strike, of course, but otherwise, they didn't really like interacting with the other boroughs. It would be hard to figure out what to do. Spot wasn't even sure who the leader even was. That was how hush hush things seemed to be in Long Island. But as long as they didn't cause trouble to Brooklyn, Spot hadn't cared. However, if they wanted to reform borders... they needed Long Island to be a part of this.
"I know... I guess maybe you and I can go over there and see if we can meet with their leader about dis?"
It was a long shot, but needed to be done. All the newsies were getting antsy about the borders even though the leaders hadn't exactly mentioned the redrawing of the lines.
"Ya talked things over with your goil then?"
Spot nodded. "Yeah... yeah, I did." And boy, did they have a talk. He was glad it happened or there would be a whole 'nother story being told right now.

"I know... I guess maybe you and I can go over there and see if we can meet with their leader about dis?"
Jack nodded slowly. If they were going to have any luck over there, it would be better if they went as more than one person.
"Yeah... yeah, I did."
He smiled faintly. Jack really was glad that Spot had found someone to soften him up a bit, and he could only hope that he'd stick with it. "That's good. So things are okay?"

Jack had nodded. He supposed that meant it was settled. He wasn't particularly fond of the idea, but it had to be done. "You got any idea who runs the borough?"
Spot hadn't really sent any birds into Long Island. The two boroughs were not exactly on good terms due to border misunderstandings in the past as well as communication problems.
"That's good. So things are okay?"
He shrugged. Things were better yes, but okay? He wasn't quite sure. They would push through somehow. "I think so. Better than what it was."

"You got any idea who runs the borough?"
Jack bit his lip. He hadn't really sent anyone in there, knowing absolutely nothing about what they would run into. "I've got no clue."
"I think so. Better than what it was."
He nodded again. As long as Spot wasn't going to do anything stupid like running into Queens, then Jack didn't mind what he did.

"I've got no clue."
Spot sighed. He supposed that would make sense... Manhattan had no need to know about Long Island like Brooklyn did. "An' I don't know either... I guess we'll find out taday, huh?"
It wasn't the best feeling, but at least Jack would be there with him.

"An' I don't know either... I guess we'll find out taday, huh?"
Jack nodded a bit. He trusted Spot, and if they needed to get out of there quickly for any reason, Spot was going to be the person who could best keep up with him. Things were going to be okay.
"When should we head over?"

"When should we head over?"
Spot set his lips in a thing line. "Now is as good of a time as any..."
There was no point in waiting. This needed to be done, the sooner the better. Besides, he really did need to know who the leader was and this would be the only opportunity really to go to Long Island with Jack in tow.
"Ready whenever you are."

"Now is as good of a time as any..."
Jack nodded. A part of him just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. Worrying about the borders had been going on for too long.
"Ready whenever you are."
He nodded again, "Let's head over then."

"Let's head over then."
“Right...”
Spot grabbed his cap and followed Jack downstairs and out towards the border between Brooklyn and Long Island.
“We gots to be careful when we get ta the border,” he warned his friend. “They get a bit antsy when they see me comin’ anywhere near the border.”

"Right..."
The walk was relatively silent for a good chunk of the way there, even though it wasn't too far to begin with.
“We gots to be careful when we get ta the border. They get a bit antsy when they see me comin’ anywhere near the border.”
Jack quirked an eyebrow, but nodded. If they had to be careful, then he would be careful. "We'll be careful then."

"We'll be careful then."
Spot was glad Jack understood. Manhattan was a quiet borough and had mostly quiet neighbors, so it could be hard to understand Brooklyn's position. Both of Brooklyn's neighbors weren't exactly the most friendliest boroughs in New York. But Spot would say he'd rather spend a week in Long Island than in Queens.
"They don't bring much trouble," he added to assure Jack that Long Island wouldn't outright attack them. "It's just that no one really knows anythin' about them."

”They don’t bring much trouble.”
Jack nodded again. Long Island was still new as far as the newsies went, so they were essentially quarantined off in their own area. It made sense.
”It’s just that no one really knows anythin’ about them.”
He nodded again. “I guess how’s as good a time as any ta find out.”

“I guess how’s as good a time as any ta find out.”
"Yeah..." Spot was almost wondering if maybe he should've considered sending a few birds in. They really didn't know what to expect from this borough. "Jus' hope it won't be a problem with them."

"Yeah..."
It wasn't difficult to pick up on the slight worry behind Spot's voice. But they knew what they were doing. They had gotten into a fair share of fights during their time as newsies... if they got attacked, they could get out.
"Jus' hope it won't be a problem with them."
"If there is, it won't be anythin' we can't handle." Jack affirmed.

"If there is, it won't be anythin' we can't handle."
Spot nodded. Jack was right. Of course he was, but Spot still felt that he could've been a little more prepared. "Yeah, I know."
They had finally crossed into Long Island. No sign of any boys, but then no one really liked to sell close to the borderlines.
"Guess we should fine the lodge?"

"Yeah, I know."
Preparation was always key with these things, but it had never happened during Jack's time as a leader. There had never been a new borough or anything of the sort. It was still all strange to him.
"Guess we should find the lodge?"
Jack nodded a bit, "Let's just hope that we find the boys' lodge first."

"Let's just hope that we find the boys' lodge first."
Spot gave him a light jab at the slight suggestion of accidentally bumping into the girls' lodge. Apparently, Jack still remembered the time Spot had mistaken the Staten girls' lodge for the boys' lodge and had gotten an earful from the lodge owner. Jack and Thunder certainly had gotten quite a few good laughs out of that...
"The boys' lodge for sure..." he muttered, though he was feeling a little more lighthearted about this business now.

Jack couldn't help but grin when Spot nudged him a bit, the expression on Spot's face obviously understanding the reference that he had been making. It had been an honest mistake, but hilarious nonetheless.
"The boys' lodge for sure."
He grinned. "We can check the lodge owner first... see if we can tell that way."

"We can check the lodge owner first... see if we can tell that way."
"Oh shut up," Spot grumbled. "If we do that, you are the one askin'. I don't want my ear pinched again."
His ear tingled at the thought. Ms. Rosenberry had gripped his ear so hard! And not to mention her scolding. He thought she'd never stop lecturing him about staying way from her girls and girls period. It had taken a long time to get her to understand that it had been an honest mistake.
