"Oh shut up."
Jack laughed once again. Thankfully, it seemed as though some of the tension that had settled over them when entering the new borough was beginning to fade.
"If we do that, you are the one askin'. I don't want my ear pinched again."
He nodded. "I'll save ya the ear pinchin', but I'll blame ya for sendin' me in."

"I'll save ya the ear pinchin', but I'll blame ya for sendin' me in."
Spot rolled his eyes. "As long as I don't get pinched, I don't care."
But enough of that bantering, they should start paying attention to their surroundings. It looked as if the lodge would be nearby.

"As long as I don't get pinched, I don't care."
Jack chuckled a bit, turning his attention back to the buildings around them. It wasn't too upscale, just as he had thought, though Jack wasn't sure which building was bound to be the lodge. Something without a store sign, he supposed.
"Would it be somethin' like that?" He raised an eyebrow, gesturing to another building nearby.

"Would it be somethin' like that?"
Spot squinted at the building. It was hard to tell in this borough. All the buildings were pretty close in appearance. "Can't tell... wish they'd had signs on 'em like your lodge," he grumbled.
Mr. O'Quinns had invested in a sign, but the boys had gotten too rowdy and knocked the sign down. And well, that was the end of that. Perhaps that's why the lodge didn't have a sign?

"Can't tell... wish they'd had signs on 'em like your lodge,"
Jack grinned a bit. Kloppman was the type of man who wouldn't hesitate to yell at the boys if they messed around too much with the sign. He was a nice old man, but he could be stern with his boys if he needed to be. The boys all respected him too much to mess with the lodge in any way.
"Let's see if we can see then." He cleared his throat, beginning to head towards the building and looking to see if he would be able to see through any windows, though they were covered up with old curtains.

"Let's see if we can see then."
"Sounds like a plan." Spot gestured for Jack to go first. There was no way he was going first if this was the girls' lodge.

Rebel had just finished checking in with all his boys after selling. He was thinking about heading home but at last minute, he had changed his mind and decided to swing by the boys' lodge. He was rather surprised to see two new faces approaching the lodge. Well, perhaps they weren't exactly new faces. The shorter of the two boys was somewhat familiar. Rebel was almost positive it was the face of the Brooklyn leader. What could have brought them here? There was only one way to find out.
He quietly walked up behind them. "Are you two lost?"

"Sounds like a plan."
Jack snickered a bit at Spot's unwillingness to go first, heading up to the door and opening it up. There was nobody inside at the moment, but the desk out front and the large book there definitely looked like a log book.
"I think this is at least one of the lodging houses..." He began, only to spot another unfamiliar boy heading up behind Spot.
"Are you two lost?"
Jack blinked. "Is this the lodgin' house... for newsies?"

"I think this is at least one of the lodging houses..."
Spot nodded abit, still hesitant to come in further than the door. "That's good... but if this is--"
"Are you two lost?"
Now Spot realized why Jack had trailed off. If Jack hadn't looked behind him, he wouldn't have realized there was someone behind him... the guy was pretty sneaky.
"Who are you?" he demanded.

"That's good... but if this is--"
Jack could see the visible look of surprise on Spot's face as he turned to look at the other male, though he gave Spot a sharp nudge as a way of telling him to stop looking so aggressive. It wasn't going to get them anywhere.
"Who are you?"
He shut his eyes tightly. Spot definitely had a different approach to meeting new people than he did... and he didn't think it would go over well. "We're lookin' for the leader here... of the newsies."

Rebel was slightly disappointed that he hadn't been able to fully sneak up on the two, but he would answer their questions.
"Yes, you would be correct." He looked at the two with a raised eyebrow. "But why would the leader of Brooklyn be looking at a lodge here?"
He glanced over at Spot. "My name is Rebel. And you must be the famous Spot I often here about." He side-eyed Jack. "And your friend is?"

Spot felt Jack nudge him, but he was a little on the edge. How could he have not sensed the other boy?!
"We're lookin' for the leader here... of the newsies."
He gave Jack an annoyed look. He had expected something a little more... mmmm, subtle?
"Yes, you would be correct."
That was a little relief. If he was here and this was a lodge, it definitely meant this was not the girls' lodge.
"But why would the leader of Brooklyn be looking at a lodge here?"
Spot immediately frowned. So this guy knew him? Or at least recognized him? It was strange to have someone know his face without him knowing the other. Normally, he knew the people before they came to him... He wasn't sure if he liked this turning of the tables.
"My name is Rebel. And you must be the famous Spot I often here about. And your friend is?"
He wasn't sure if he liked this guy, and no, the height difference had nothing to do with it! "Yeah... that's me."

Subtlety was something that Jack hardly ever bothered with, especially when he knew exactly what he needed. If this boy knew where the leader was, then he wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible.
"Yes, you would be correct."
Jack nodded again. He had a hunch, and he had been right.
"But why would the leader of Brooklyn be looking at a lodge here?"
Truthfully, Jack was surprised that the boy seemed to know who Spot was. However, he figured that it might have been due to Long Island's proximity to Brooklyn compared to Manhattan.
"My name is Rebel. And you must be the famous Spot I often here about. And your friend is?"
Jack cleared his throat. "Jack Kelly... from 'Hattan." It felt weird introducing himself, but it was necessary.
"Yeah... that's me."
Jack shot Spot another look, warning him to not seem too put off by the new guy. They still didn't know what to expect.

Rebel was rather surprised at Jack's introduction. He wondered why someone from Manhattan would be so far from home? But they asked for the leader of the borough, he supposed that was the answer to his question.
"You are both in luck. I'm the leader here in Long Island." He gave them a pleasant smile to show he meant no harm, but he certainly would be watching them closely. What did they want with him? After all, it wasn't every day Long Island had guests from another borough.

"You are both in luck. I'm the leader here in Long Island."Jack was admittedly relieved. It seemed as though they wouldn't have to search around much after all. "Ah... good ta meet ya then."
"You... you're the leader?"
Once again, Jack turned a silencing gaze to Spot. It seemed as though he had been right to insist that Spot should be respectful after all.

Spot just nudged Jack when he sent him another look. He didn't like this guy really and didn't care to hide his feelings even if Jack felt it was best to do so.
"You are both in luck. I'm the leader here in Long Island."
He wasn't sure if he believed the guy or not. He was still wary of the other boy. "You... You're the leader?"
He glanced at Jack to see his thoughts. Did Jack believe this kid?

Rebel chuckled at the two boys' surprise. Well, he supposed he didn't seem much like a leader at first glance, but once they got to know him, they would understand.
"So," he walked over to the front desk. "What brings you two to my little borough?"
He was certain this was far from a polite little social call. The two came here for a specific purpose, not a little how-do-you-do.

"So, what brings you two to my little borough?"
Jack headed inside after him, nodding for Spot to do the same. It seemed as though this was indeed the boys' lodge, so Spot wouldn't have to worry.
"We came here ta discuss the new borders. Spot drew up a map and we wanted ta get all the borough leaders tagether one day ta discuss making them permanent. There's been a lot of trouble with the borders lately." Jack explained.

Rebel scribbled his name into the log book, deciding to spend the night here instead of at home. He glanced at the two leaders, studying them carefully as they explained their purpose. He supposed it made sense to talk about the borders. The previous leader had mentioned it was getting close to the time where they might have to consider new borders. He was more than willing to discuss such things with Brooklyn whenever this took place. He was uncertain though how he felt about the third party being there until Jack explained that all the leaders would be meeting up. Well, now that sounded like it would be worth getting involved in. He was a bit curious to know what the other borough leaders were like. He would accept their invitation.
"I believe that is an excellent idea. Have the two of you set a date for this meeting?" He glanced between the two fellow leaders, wondering how far ahead they had planned this.

"So, what brings you two to my little borough?"
Spot did his best to hide his scowl, finally taking Jack's hints to behave himself. It really wouldn't be good for Brooklyn to be on bad terms with both of the neighboring boroughs. It really was a good thing that Jack had come along... because Spot really wasn't much of a diplomat. He spoke what he thought and felt when it came to borough business. Not always the greatest thing to do around other leaders who wanted to think what was best for their boroughs as well.
"We came here ta discuss the new borders. Spot drew up a map and we wanted ta get all the borough leaders tagether one day ta discuss making them permanent. There's been a lot of trouble with the borders lately."
He nodded, agreeing and allowing Jack to do all the talking for now. He might put a little too much sarcasm if he had done the talking.
"I believe that is an excellent idea. Have the two of you set a date for this meeting?"
"That's why we're here. We needed ta know if ya had a date that you'd prefer."
Spot nodded again. "We want ta make sure all the leaders can be there so no one is left out."

Rebel raised an eyebrow. So they wanted to know what worked best for him? That was nice to know that they were taking his time into consideration. It seemed as if the other two leaders had some good qualities at first glance.
"Any time should be good for me," he replied.
He was rather interested in this whole affair. The borders did need some adjusting, and this was a good opportunity to get to know all the other leaders and see what they were like.

"We want ta make sure all the leaders can be there so no one is left out."
Jack nodded in agreement. He didn't feel the need to add anything to that.
"Any time should be good for me,"
"Is this gonna be the best place ta find ya when we talk ta the others and get somethin' set up?" Jack knew that it would be a relatively long journey for him to make, but he wasn't sure if Spot would be the best person to send in to report and time and date and things like that. It was obvious to the Manhattan leader that Spot wasn't overly fond of Rebel or Long Island as a whole.

"Any time should be good for me."
Spot raised an eyebrow but remained silent. It was good to see that the leader was willing to meet, but did he really think it would be that easy?
"Is this gonna be the best place ta find ya when we talk ta the others and get somethin' set up?"
He hadn't even thought of that... it really was a good thing he had gotten Jack to come along. He probably would end up running around all of Long Island trying to contact the leader. But to be honest, he probably would have just sent a bird. He didn't like this guy very much even though they had just met.

Rebel shook his head. The lodge probably wouldn't be the best place. He didn't stay at lodge much anymore since he made things right with his family. So he needed to consider a better place for them to find him. Where was he most often?
"The best place to find me will be near Belmont Park," he decided. The racetrack had just opened and many of the boys liked to check it out. It was the best place to keep an eye on the newsies while also enjoying oneself at the same time.
