"The best place to find me will be near Belmont Park,"
Now, Jack still wasn't really familiar with the layout of Long Island, so he wasn't entirely sure where Belmont Park was. However, he figured that he would be able to figure it out, or Spot would be able to send a bird to figure it out.
"That shouldn't be a problem." Jack agreed.

Rebel nodded as the Manhattan leader agreed the meeting place. He was not sure how Spot Conlon would feel about it, but Belmont was the best place. Besides, he did not think either leader would make a big fuss about it even if they did not like the meeting place. They couldn't really argue about it since they had asked where it would be best to find him.
"Please keep in touch," he said pleasantly, though more to Jack than to Spot. Rebel could tell the Brooklyn leader didn't seem fond of him.

"Please keep in touch."
Jack nodded again. "We will. Thanks again."
Luckily, they seemed to be getting out of Long Island without incident, and that was bound to be a good thing. It seemed to be better with Spot remaining silent rather than pushing for him to try speaking, as well. They had gotten what they had come for, and now it was time to leave.

"The best place to find me will be near Belmont Park."
Spot sniffed a bit a this. He had heard of the new racetrack. Several of the boys had talked about sneaking over to watch the races over in Long Island. If he needed to send word to the leader there, it wouldn't be too hard. He remained silent as the two leaders had a little small talk. He wasn't really interested anymore now that business was over.
He was more than grateful when Jack motioned for the two of them to start heading back.

As they finally began leaving Long Island, Jack honestly felt just a little bit more at ease about the whole thing. It seemed as though Rebel was a nice enough guy, and they could talk to him freely. It did seem as though it might be better for Spot to communicate through birds, but sending someone like Cloud probably wouldn't be an issue. He was a nice kid.
"He seemed nice." Jack commented.

"He seemed nice."
Spot raised an eyebrow. "He seemed nice? I don't know, Jack." He wasn't going to hide his feelings now that it was just him and Jack. "I don't like 'im. He's shifty."

Jack rolled his eyes. "You're bein' too suspicious. He's another leader, we've gotta respect him."
"I don't like 'im. He's shifty."
He raised an eyebrow in return. "How so? He seemed fine ta me."

"You're bein' too suspicious. He's another leader, we've gotta respect him."
Spot scoffed. "You live it easy in Manhattan." He didn't mean it meanly, but Manhattan had it pretty calm. Their neighboring boroughs were nice and quiet which made the leaders nice and quiet as well.
"How so? He seemed fine ta me."
He raised an eyebrow. "Did you look at how the guy was dressed? Seemed a bit nice for a newsie."
And everything just seemed so off... but then again, maybe Jack was right. Spot was just being too suspicious thanks to the neighboring Queens.

"You live it easy in Manhattan."
He sighed a bit. He knew that Brooklyn having Queens right next door wasn't great, but it was still tough being a leader to begin with. Nothing was ever easy.
"Did you look at how the guy was dressed? Seemed a bit nice for a newsie."
"He had an accent," Jack pointed out, "Maybe he just had it from his home country or somethin'."

"He had an accent. Maybe he just had it from his home country or somethin'."
Spot knew Jack was probably right. The guy wasn't one to jump to conclusions or judge based on just the first meeting. "Yeah... maybe. I still don't like him."
Though, if asked, he did like this guy a whole lot better than he liked Rip. So that was a good thing. The relationship with Long Island might be a little on the shaky side, but it would never be as bad as Queens if Spot kept his head.

"Yeah... maybe. I still don't like him."
Jack nodded, nudging him a bit. "Just maybe send a boid instead of yourself then. Then there'll be no problems." Sure, that was probably the obvious solution, but he figured that he should put it out there regardless.

"Just maybe send a boid instead of yourself then. Then there'll be no problems."
Spot nodded. "Yeah, I know... I just don't like it, you know? Besides... the boys were wantin' ta see that new racetrack." He nudged Jack back. "You better keep an eye on Race. He'll probably be wantin' ta check out those races too."
Racetrack was always welcome to come to Brooklyn to watch the races at Sheepshead, but he wasn't sure how Rebel would feel about Race coming to Long Island for the races.

"Yeah, I know... I just don't like it, you know? Besides... the boys were wantin' ta see that new racetrack."
Jack nodded. It made enough sense to him. He just figured that Spot was being too paranoid because he already had a bad relationship with Rip.
"You better keep an eye on Race. He'll probably be wantin' ta check out those races too."
"I'll watch 'im, but ya know how he is. He ain't gonna listen if he don't wanna." Jack quirked a smile. "He's kinda like you."

"I'll watch 'im, but ya know how he is. He ain't gonna listen if he don't wanna."
Spot chuckled. "That's what makes Race Race.
"He's kinda like you."
He looked at Jack in mock surprise. "Me? No, no. Race is nothin' like me."

"That's what makes Race Race."
Jack grinned. Race would have been the type who would have been a good bird if he hadn't always wanted to do his own thing. The guy was one of the best friends that Jack had.
"Me? No, no. Race is nothin' like me."
He rolled his eyes playfully. "Keep tellin' yourself that, Spotty boy."

"Keep tellin' yourself that, Spotty boy."
Spot shook his head. "Don't need ta, cause I know. Race has got a mind of his own, and I certainly keep others in mind."
Now that wasn't all true. When it came down to it, Racetrack was as selfless as they could come. He just didn't show it as much as some of the other newsies.
"Jus' keep an eye on the kid, okay?" Spot would hate for something bad to happen to one of his closest Manhattan friends.

He chuckled. "Whatever helps ya sleep at night."
"Jus' keep an eye on the kid, okay?"
Jack nodded. "I'll protect 'im with my life. Same with every other newsie in 'Hattan. They're safe with me." Race was a special case, most definitely, but Jack would die for his newsies if that was what was necessary.

”Whateve helps ya sleep at night.”
Spot rolled his eyes, feeling more comfortable now that they were finally back in Brooklyn.
"I'll protect 'im with my life. Same with every other newsie in 'Hattan. They're safe with me."
He nodded. “That’s good ta hear.” After all, he felt the same way about his newsies. “Guess this is it for today, huh?”
It wasn’t very late, but Jack probably wanted to get to Manhattan before it started getting too dark.

“That’s good ta hear.”
Jack nodded. That was just part of being a leader, and they knew it before they stepped up. The borough always came first.
“Guess this is it for today, huh?”
He replied with a nod once again. "Guess so." Brushing himself off, he flashed Spot a small smile. "Be safe. I'll get back to ya about a date sometime soon for the meetin'."

"Guess so. Be safe. I'll get back to ya about a date sometime soon for the meetin'."
Spot nodded. "Sounds good ta me. I'll be fine."
For now anyways. Spot wasn't going to be rash or stupid. He would be smart and stay safe while waiting from word from Jack about the plan for the boroughs. "You already hit Jersey?"
While Jersey wasn't exactly apart of New York, some of their borders crossed with Statten. It would be the polite thing to contact them at least.

"Sounds good ta me. I'll be fine."
Jack nodded a bit. Spot was one of the leaders that he found himself worrying about more than others, but only because of Rip. He trusted him to be smart, though.
"You already hit Jersey?"
He shook his head slowly. "Wasn't sure if we were gonna hit them."

"Wasn't sure if we were gonna hit them."
Spot shrugged. "Did you talk ta Otter in Statten? If he says something about the borders bein' rough, then we probably should hit them. If not, then no need to get them caught up in our business."
Jersey was close but not that close. Jersey only got involved with New York during times like the strike or major borough wars.

Jack nodded. That made sense. If things were rough, then they could deal with it, but it would be best to not intrude if they didn't need to. "I can do that."

Spot nodded. "I'll leave you ta it then. Jersey ain't bad."
He wasn't overly fond of Jersey, but he knew most of the boys weren't bad. Jersey was fairly laid back like Manhattan maybe even more so since they avoided conflict.
