"It wasn't our idea in the beginnin'. We all thought that it was a terrible idea... Which it was, ta begin with. I didn't really like the whole idea until we got Brooklyn behind us, too."
Mousey nodded some then furrowed her brow in slight confusion. She didn't know much about the other boroughs, just Manhattan and the Battery. She had heard of Brooklyn in passing. "Th-that's Spot Conlon's borough, isn't it?" she asked timidly. She had seen Spot and his boys come in to help with the strike. They were very scary.
"That's yours. Your acting got that. Once we're done sellin' your papes and we move on to mine, then we can start splittin' things."
She was blushing again, wasn't she? As soon as Mush put his hand around hers, she could feel the heat rise off her cheeks. She was slightly disappointed that he didn't want to split this change with her. After all, it was soo much money to her! But she brightened when he told her they could split a little later.
"Then I can take ya out ta Tibby's for somethin' ta eat and we can be done for the day."
The mention of food was apparently too much for her stomach to handle. It let out a little growl, causing Mousey to duck her head in shame and embarrassment.
"I ain't gonna take money that ya made with your own talent. It's yours. Please. Think of the part that ya would be givin' ta me as a gift ta you."
She blushed once again and gave him a small smile. "You're a real gentleman. You know that?"

"Th-that's Spot Conlon's borough, isn't it?"
Mush chuckled a bit, nodding. "Brooklyners are the toughest newsies out there, in most of our minds. They're good at what they do, and they're pretty scary, but a lot of 'em are nice people either way." He shrugged. It had taken him a while to get to realize that, of course, but they weren't necessarily bad people. They were just intimidating.
"You're a real gentleman. You know that?"
Mush beamed, "That was the last thing that I remember my parents tellin' me. I try keepin' that up, so I'm glad ya think so. You're a real lady." He replied, unsure about the exact equivalent of gentleman for women, although he figured that he was close enough. He trusted her not to judge or call him stupid or anything. "Ya hungry? I say we can sell most of these papes in an hour ta an hour and a half. Then we can get somethin' ta eat, and I can finish up sellin' for the day. Then I'll walk ya back ta the lodgin' houses. That sound good?" He asked.

"Brooklyners are the toughest newsies out there, in most of our minds. They're good at what they do, and they're pretty scary, but a lot of 'em are nice people either way."
Mousey nodded some. Like Mush said, she was sure there were nice people in Brooklyn, but those boys still were very scary and intimidating. She couldn't help but shudder at the thought of them.
"That was the last thing that I remember my parents tellin' me. I try keepin' that up, so I'm glad ya think so."
She now found another reason to admire him, listening to the advice of his parents. She wished she could remember anything her parents had told her... but she had been so young. There really was little chance of her remembering anything.
"You're a real lady."
Mousey was blushing. She never really thought of herself as a lady. Just look at the state of her worn clothes. "Th-that's really nice of you to say."
"Ya hungry? I say we can sell most of these papes in an hour ta an hour and a half. Then we can get somethin' ta eat, and I can finish up sellin' for the day. Then I'll walk ya back ta the lodgin' houses. That sound good?"
She nodded quickly, grateful that he hadn't mentioned her stomach growling but she was still rather embarrassed all the same. It took much concentration to sell the rest of her papers with Mush. Her stupid stomach just had to ruin everything.

"Th-that's really nice of you to say."
Mush shrugged, "'S the least I could do." He flashed her a smile. "All I do is tell the truth. It's all I really know how ta do most of the time, I guess." He sighed. "But I'm good at it, so I don't mind much." He was back to smiling within a fraction of a second.
"On the bright side, if your stomach growls while we're with someone, they'd probably give us a bit more for food 'n' stuff." He beamed a bit, determined to once again make the best of the situation.

"'S the lest I could do. All I do is tell the truth. It's all I really know how ta do most of the time, I guess. But I'm good at it, so I don't mind much."
Mousey smiled and nodded. She thought his honesty was one of his best traits. Being honest was definitely a good thing. "Tellin' the truth is a very good thing. People who lie... they don't get many friends."
"On the bright side, if your stomach growls while we're with someone, they'd probably give us a bit more for food 'n' stuff."
She blushed again but not with as much embarrassment this time. She was amazed at how Mush could look at the bright side of everything. She couldn't fight her curiosity. "How do you do that? See the best in everythin'?"

"Tellin' the truth is a very good thing. People who lie... they don't get many friends."
Mush nodded in agreement, "Yeah, or they get a lot o' friends, and then they lose all of 'em because they all found out that it was a lie." He replied. He had seen it happen before. Some people didn't even learn their lesson after that.
"How do you do that? See the best in everythin'?"
It took Mush a moment to truly process what she had said, although once he understood, he laughed a bit. "People tell me I'm naive and ignorant. I guess it's that. It takes a special kind o' mind ta think like that. It's not always a good thing, though. Sometimes people take advantage of ya because of it, and I dunno... I hate seein' people who need help with somethin' struggling when I know that I can help 'em."

"Yeah, or they get a lot o' friends, and then they lose all of 'em because they all found out that it was a lie."Mousey nodded sadly. It was terrible how some people found it easy to lie and deceive people. It was so mean. She knew from experience... A girl had lied to her once and it had hurt deeply. "People tell me I'm naive and ignorant. I guess it's that."She gave him an incredulous look. How could anyone ever consider Mush to be ignorant? She thought of Mush as very knowledgeable. "I don't think you're ignorant..." she murmured. "It takes a special kind o' mind ta think like that. It's not always a good thing, though. Sometimes people take advantage of ya because of it, and I dunno... I hate seein' people who need help with somethin' struggling when I know that I can help 'em."She pursed her lips slightly. She could kind of understand how it could be a bad thing, but honestly, she thought it had more good advantages than bad. It made you a good person. "Don't... don't let them make you change," she whispered. "I," she blushed. "I like you just the way you are." ((Hey just giving you a heads up. I have to head off to work so I won't be on for a bit. I also have work tomorrow around this time. Just wanted to let you know! ))

[Alright, no problem! Thanks for the heads up! ] "I don't think you're ignorant..."Mush smiled gratefully at her, laughing softly and shrugging, "Thanks. I don't really mind. Sometimes I choose ta be, just because it's easier, most of the time." "Don't... don't let them make you change. I-I like you just the way you are."Mush blushed a bit at her kind words, shrugging a bit. "Well, thanks. I like ya the way you are, too. Don't change how you are around other people just because ya aren't confident with it. There's someone out there someday who'll fall in love with ya because they like ya for who you are." He beamed brightly.

"Thanks. I don't really mind. Sometimes I choose ta be, just because it's easier, most of the time."Mousey smiled back at him as she nodded. His smile was truly contagious. She could not keep her lips from turning upward every time Mush smiled. "Well, thanks. I like ya the way you are, too. Don't change how you are around other people just because ya aren't confident with it."She was also blushing at his words, very flattered that he seemed to like her despite her shyness. "I... I'll try not ta change." She felt that she should at least try to be a little more bold. "There's someone out there someday who'll fall in love with ya because they like ya for who you are."Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped some. "F-fall in love? With... with me?" she squeaked, blushing madly. She really couldn't see anyone falling in love with her. Liking? Possible... love? Not a chance. ((No problem. ))

"I... I'll try not ta change."
Mush grinned brightly, glad that she was willing to agree not to change anything about herself. He liked her right now just the way that she was, and he barely knew her. He could only imagine what some of the other girls she was friends with felt about her.
"F-fall in love? With... with me?"
He nodded, grinning brightly at the thought. "Yeah, absolutely. And that's how I got my name. The boys say I'm mushy." He grinned. He liked his name, and he thought that it suited him rather well. It was better than his real name, that was for sure.

"Yeah, absolutely. And that's how I got my name. The boys say I'm mushy."
Mousey glances down at her feet. "I... I dunno about that..." She sneaked a glance at him. "But I don't think you're mushy... jus' real sweet. But um," she added shyly. "I like your name as Mush."
It was really surprising how much she was talking. This was probably the most she had spoken in weeks, maybe even months! And... well it was all because she had bumped into Mush.

"I... I dunno about that... But I don't think you're mushy... jus' real sweet."
Mush grinned. No one had ever actually told him that he wasn't mushy before, and he was a bit surprised about it. He had always thought that they were right, but maybe it was just him wanting to see the best in everyone all over again.
"I like your name as Mush."
He laughed, "An' I like your name as Mousey," He smiled, "I think it suits ya real well." He added.

"An' I like your name as Mousey.
Mousey gave him a bashful smile. "Th-thank you... Ms. Campbell gave it to me."
"I think it suits ya real well."
She ducked her head shyly. She still wasn't quite use to such nice comments. "Th-thanks." She gave him another shy smile. "I, I like it alot. Mice... they are kinda cute and little."

"Th-thank you... Ms. Campbell gave it to me."
Mush grinned. He had liked Ms. Campbell the one time that he had spoken to her. He had been on a date with a girl - it hadn't gone well - and he had been there to drop her off. She had stormed right off to bed, and Ms. Campbell gave him advice not to keep seeing her. They hadn't spoken since. He was grateful for that.
"I, I like it alot. Mice... they are kinda cute and little."
"Yeah... Definitely. Ya could describe yourself with those woids, too." He grinned cheekily.

Mousey giggled softly. "Ah well... little yes not so sure about c-cute."
She stopped giggling and smiled up at him softly. This definitely had to be the best day ever. "Thank you," she said softly. "You... you have really made this day somethin'."

Mush smiled, "I dunno, I think cute works for ya, too." He shrugged.
"Thank you. You... you have really made this day somethin'."
He smiled a bit, shaking his head, "You've been makin' it somethin' yourself. Ya didn't need my help. All ya needed me for was ta help ya be more confident comin' out of your shell. Ya needed someone who understands what it's like ta be shy."

"I dunno, I think cute works for ya, too."Mousey blushed and glanced up at him. "You... you think I'm cute?" she asked somewhat hopefully and nervously. She really valued his opinion whether it be on selling papers or on what she looked like. "You've been makin' it somethin' yourself. Ya didn't need my help. All ya needed me for was ta help ya be more confident comin' out of your shell. Ya needed someone who understands what it's like ta be shy."She smiled softly. "Well... I think you did a great job at helpin' me come out of my shell. I don't think I coulda done it without you," she said honestly. ((Well I gotta head off to bed. X3 I should be able to be on all day tomorrow minus work. ))

[Alright, same here! Goodnight!]
"You... you think I'm cute?"
Mush blushed a bit, although he laughed and nodded. "There's no question in my mind that ya are, Mousey."
"Well... I think you did a great job at helpin' me come out of my shell. I don't think I coulda done it without you."
He smiled, "Ya aren't completely out yet, so I'm gonna stick with ya. If ya ever want someone to hang around with, ya could always come over and be with me. I'm typically with Blink, too, but he's nice. He did what I'm doin' for ya with me." He smiled a bit.

"There's no question in my mind that ya are, Mousey."
Mousey blushed and smiled softly. It was really sweet of Mush to say that. She really didn't think of herself as cute, but if Mush did, well, maybe she could start thinking of herself as kind of cute. She honestly thought the girls back at the lodge were actually cute and pretty. Her? She was just a plain little mouse.
"Ya aren't completely out yet, so I'm gonna stick with ya."
She nodded some. It was true. She wasn't quite out of her shell yet, but maybe she soon would be. And with Mush sticking with her, she had a feeling it wouldn't take too long.
"If ya ever want someone to hang around with, ya could always come over and be with me."
Her eyes widened. She could barely believe her ears! Mush was inviting her to hang out with him whenever she liked? "R-really? Y-ya wouldn't mind?"
" I'm typically with Blink, too, but he's nice. He did what I'm doin' for ya with me."
Mousey cocked her head slightly. "Blink..." Her cheeks turned a bit pink. "Ah... don't wanna sound rude but... he's the kinda tall blonde with the patch, right?" She glanced down at her feet, hoping she hadn't hurt Mush's feelings.

"R-really? Y-ya wouldn't mind?"
Mush shook his head quickly. There was nothing that she had done so far that would give him any reason to mind whether or not she came over and spent time with them. He thought that she was really nice, in fact, and he would love to spend more time around her than he would normally get to do just selling papers with her. "I'd love for ya ta spend more time with me - or us, I guess."
"Ah... don't wanna sound rude but... he's the kinda tall blonde with the patch, right?"
He nodded, "Yeah, that's him. He's real nice. I think you'd like 'im a lot if ya got ta know him." He smiled kindly.

"I'd love for ya ta spend more time with me - or us, I guess."
Mousey's cheeks flushed with pleasure. "I-if ya don't mine... I'd love to spend more time with you too," she said, giving him a small smile.
"Yeah, that's him. He's real nice. I think you'd like 'im a lot if ya got ta know him."
She let out a shaky sigh of relief. She was afraid she might have offended Mush. She was very glad she hadn't. It would be awful if their friendship had ended from her mistake. "I, I'd like to meet him sometime."

"I-if ya don't mine... I'd love to spend more time with you too."
Mush chuckled, "If I minded, I wouldn't've offered." He pointed out rationally.
"I, I'd like to meet him sometime."
He nodded, smiling brightly at the thought of Blink meeting Mousey. Maybe he could help to bring her even more out of her shell, since he had done it with Mush before and seen what worked.
"He'd love ta meet ya. He loves meetin' goils, whether he wants to take 'em out or not. He's real good with people and makin' 'em feel comfortable." He grinned brightly. "Ya could meet 'im after work taday!"

"If I minded, I wouldn't've offered."
Mousey ducked her head, a little embarrassed. "Ah.. right.... but I, I like it. That we could, can spend time together."
"He'd love ta meet ya. He loves meetin' goils, whether he wants to take 'em out or not."
She blushed. She wasn't sure if she'd meet up to Kid's expectation of girls, but she still wanted to meet him.
"He's real good with people and makin' 'em feel comfortable."
She smiled. "He sounds like a nice guy." She was already looking forward to meeting Mush's friend. It would be very nice to have another friend.
"Ya could meet 'im after work taday!"
Her eyes widened in surprise. So soon? She wasn't sure what to say. "Today? Really?"

"Ah.. right.... but I, I like it. That we could, can spend time together."
Mush chuckled, her bashfulness bringing a smile once again to his features. "I like it too, Mousey."
"He sounds like a nice guy."
He beamed, his eyes lighting up as she seemed to actually want to meet Blink. Blink was his best friend, and there had never been any question about that in his mind. "He really is!"
"Today? Really?"
He shrugged, "If ya were interested, then I don't see why not."

"I like it too, Mousey."
Mousey beamed up at him, thrilled that he felt the same way. It was very rare for her to share how she felt and even rarer for someone to have the same feelings as she did.
""He really is!"
She couldn't help but smile as Mush beamed. "I'm sure. I trust you." And she really did, more than anyone she had ever known before.
"If ya were interested, then I don't see why not."
She nodded, smiling up at him again. "I, I'm interested." She hesitated. "But um... he won't mind? We won't... be interruptin' anything?"
