Sand leaned against the gate watching everyone crowd around to get their papers. She couldn't find the one person she needed most. Blondie was supposed to have been back yesterday. If he wasn't back she'd have someone head towards Queens to look for him. Sand started biting her nails then quickly stopped and started chewing her lip. Where was Blondie? Was he ok? What was going on? Was everything ok?

Blondie was yawning as he made his way to the distribution center. He had been half-tempted not to show up, but he knew he needed to come. He could rest after he reported to Sand. Though, he had to admit it was a good thing for him that he had been gone two days. It had given his bruises time to recover some. They were visible, but he tended to look a bit sickly sometimes so most of the boys hadn't even noticed his bruises. Besides, the bruises hadn't been big to begin with. He was sorry that he had made Sand worry. He hated making her worry.

Sand spotted Blondie and watched him looking more worried then relieved. Those were bruises weren't they? What had happened? She needed to know now. Sand clenched her jaw a bit and crossed her arms in front of her watching him closely. He better be heading over to her. He needed to explain himself.

Blondie stifled a yawn as he moved forward in line. He really needed a good long rest after he talked with Sand. He chuckled humorlessly. If his housekeeper saw him now, she would be throwing fits! But thank goodness she wasn't here. On the other hand, he thought grimly, there was Sand. He could see her at the front of the line, watching him with her arms crossed.
He sighed. He would have a lot of explaining to do.

Sand tapped her foot a bit impatiently as he made his way through the crowd. He was taking to long and Sand was getting agitated. Making her way through the crowd she stopped in front of him. "What took ya so long? Ya said ya' be back yesterday. I can't have ya breaking the plan like that. Ya know better then anyone how I feel 'bout that and ya did it anyway." He may have been taller then her but she was fierce. Some of the other newsies stepped away slightly hearing their leaders tone. Despite her small frame and typical quietness this is why she was leader. Sand was a force to be reckoned with if pushed far enough.

"What took ya so long?"
Blondie was surprised when Sand suddenly came over to him. He couldn't help but wince at the agitation in her voice. He was about to open his mouth in reply when she continued.
"Ya said ya' be back yesterday. I can't have ya breaking the plan like that. Ya know better then anyone how I feel 'bout that and ya did it anyway."
He let out a breath when she was finished. He hated when she was angry... especially when she was angry at him, but it was really a bit much when it felt like she thought he did this on purpose.
"I did come back yesterday," he answered quietly. "I came back real late... I was in Manhattan checking on some stuff I learned in Queens."

I came back real late... I was in Manhattan checking on some stuff I learned in Queens.
Sand ground her teeth a bit but calmed down quickly. "Fine. Ya came back yesterday. But you didn't tell me. That was the point of a plan tellin me was the reason for the plan in the first place." She sighed and headed towards the gate looking slightly frustrated. "Why even bother with a plan..." She mumbled some.

"Fine. Ya came back yesterday. But you didn't tell me. That was the point of a plan tellin me was the reason for the plan in the first place."
Blondie frowned. "It was late. You were already asleep when I got back."
"Why even bother with a plan..."
He took a step back. He could understand her frustration... He had been late, and she had every right to be worried about her borough. But this... this was a bit much. Yes, this had been his plan and all, but she was being a bit rough on him. He had said it was possible that he would be late, hadn't he? Not everything always went according to plan, didn't Sand know that? He wasn't one of her birds. He didn't follow the rules like the birds, because he didn't know them and he wasn't a bird. It wasn't entirely his fault... He was just trying to help his borough and this is what he got?
"Tch..." he tsked under his breath and clenched his fists.
Maybe this was all for naught. Things hadn't really gone well with Queens with Astrid, now Sand. Maybe he really was still a rich kid... he'd never fit in with the newsies. He slipped out of line and headed back to the lodge. Maybe it was time to go back home.

It was late. You were already asleep when I got back.
Sand shrugged. "Yeah. Alright." She was frustrated but mostly worried. How could he have made her worry like that? Sand continued to the front of the line and got her papers. Moving to the side she waited for Blondie to get his papers and meet her. They needed a serious talk. First they needed to get away from the newsies.

"Yeah. Alright."
Blondie was starting to feel frustrated. He could tell that she wasn't convinced. He felt like the last two days meant nothing. He needed to head back to the lodge and sleep. He was most definitely not selling today. He needed a break. Normally, he wouldn't mind pushing himself a little and at least selling a few papers, but today he didn't feel like pushing. He was mentally and physically tired.

When Sand realized that Blondie wasn't going to sell she followed him and when she caught up to him she pulled him to the side hidden in an alley away from anyone. She felt tears in her eyes as she looked at the bruises. "Are you ok? How bad did they get you..?" She asked softly looking him over.

"Are you ok?"
Blondie tensed and let out a silent gasp when Sand suddenly tugged him to an alleyway. He frowned down at her some once he got his breathing back to normal.
"Not okay... if... you scare me like that..." he panted softly.
"How bad did they get you...?"
He pulled away from her some. "I'm fine... They didn't really get me that much. Just a little scuffle."

Not okay... if... you scare me like that...
"Now you know how I felt yesterday." Sand said hitting his arm lightly with her papers. "Don't do it again..."
I'm fine... They didn't really get me that much. Just a little scuffle.
Sand nodded slightly. "Just a scuffle..." She looked over him one more time somehow hoping she would be able to tell if he was ok. When she was satisfied that he was still somewhat in one peice she resisted the urge to hug him and just wiped her eyes a bit. "Ok..."

"Now you know how I felt yesterday. Don't do it again..."
Blondie winced at her hit and nodded. "Try not to," he answered a bit gruffly.
"Just a scuffle... Ok..."
He nodded again. "It wasn't anything serious. Just a little scuffle." He put his hands in his pockets and stared at his feet. "Queens doesn't have any plans involving Bronx."

Try not too
Sand's eyes widened as she realized that she's hurt him. "I'm sorry. I just...I'm sorry..." She said softly.
It wasn't anything serious. Just a little scuffle. Queens doesn't have any plans involving Bronx.
She nodded a bit. "Ok..." Sand watched him for a second. She felt like she had messed things up with him. "I'm sorry...go back ta the lodge and sleep...I'll stop by after I'm done selling if ya want..."

"I'm sorry. I just...I'm sorry..."
Blondie shrugged off her apology. He accepted it, but he had now realized that he really didn't fit it with newsies as well as he thought he had. "It's fine."
"Ok..."
He scrunched up his nose in thought. "Um... there's a guy from Jersey... Used to live in Manhattan. He's got ties in Queens. Name's Ace. You might be able to find stuff from him."
"I'm sorry...go back ta the lodge and sleep...I'll stop by after I'm done selling if ya want..."
He stifled a yawn. "It's fine... but yeah, I'm heading to the lodge to sleep."
And possibly pack. He wouldn't leave right away, but he was starting to seriously think about it. Newsie life apparently wasn't for him.

It's fine
Sand nodded a bit. Did she screw up or say something wrong?
Um... there's a guy from Jersey... Used to live in Manhattan. He's got ties in Queens. Name's Ace. You might be able to find stuff from him.
"Ace...ok...ill see if I can get someone ta look inta him..." She said softly looking up at him. Sand wasn't sure she liked the way he was acting after his trip. "Blondie...ya ok?" She asked watching him hoping he alright.
It's fine... but yeah, I'm heading to the lodge to sleep.
She nodded a bit. "Alright. Sleep and I'll meet ya later at the lodge."

"Ace...ok...ill see if I can get someone ta look inta him..."
Blondie nodded. "He seems pretty well known in Manhattan... He knows a few kids here in Bronx too, so it shouldn't be hard to find anything on him."
"Blondie...ya ok?"
He nodded. "Just tired, that's all."
That's what it was. He was tired. Once he rested, he'd feel better and forget everything and everything would be back to normal. He was just tired.
"Alright. Sleep and I'll meet ya later at the lodge."
He nodded again, yawning as he did. "Mmmm, later."

Sand nodded some. She'd look into it but she didn't know what else they could do.

"Ok." She said softly. "Go get some sleep."

"Ok. Go get some sleep."
Blondie yawned again. "Will do." He glanced back at her. "I think the Ace guy might know you or at least heard of you..."
He wasn't sure why he added that, but Sand needed to get in touch with Ace. It could help them find out more about Queens.

Sand's face scrunches up hearing that this Ace might know her. "Alright..." She said quietly. "Go sleep Blondie. I'll stop by in a bit and check on ya." Sand said with a small smile.

Blondie nodded some and gave her a small wave. He headed for the lodge. He was looking forward to getting a well-deserved rest.

Sand went off and sold her papers. She tried to take as much time as she could to make sure Blondie got plenty of sleep. Even after she finished selling she went to the lodge and talked to some of the girls about Ace. They were all raving about him those that knew him. It was interesting. She didn't think she knew him. Well after lunch she headed to the boys lodge carrying some hot dogs. Sand climbed up the stairs and plopped on the bed next to Blondie. "I brought lunch." She said with a smile as she nudged him gently.

"I brought lunch."
Blondie nearly jumped out bed in surprise. He had forgotten that Sand was going to stop by. And well, he didn't think she was literally going to come in and check up on him. His hair was in a fluffy mess, and due to his surprise, he was on the floor all tangled up in his sheets.
His face was quite pink. "S-Sand! Whatcha doin' in here?!"

"S-Sand! Whatcha doin' in here?!
Sand started laughing much harder then she should have. "Blondie I said I was gunna check on you." Sand sat the hot dogs down and moved to help him up. "You're hairs so fluffy." She held back a laugh. Sand smiled as she pulled his sheets on the bed. "Feel better?"
