"Sorry about that."
Ace cleared his throat. "It's fine," he said quietly and sipped his tea a bit awkwardly.
He wasn't sure if this awkward silence would last for the rest of the lunch. He had really botched it, hadn't he?

It's fine
Astrid sighed a bit as they sat in silence. "You didn't do anything..." She said softly watching her cup. "It...I just thought of something that isn't very happy..." Astrid explained quietly.

"You didn't do anything..."
Ace stared at his tea, unsure if she was accusing him or just making a statement. Either way, this lunch had taken a sour turn.
"It...I just thought of something that isn't very happy..."
He pursed his lips slightly and gave her a slight nod. Even if she didn't say it out right, he had a feeling it was his fault that she though of something that made her cry. He needed to stop putting himself through this... and girls through this. He just needed to stick to hanging out with his guy friends and Lottie. That way, no one would get hurt.

Astrid sighed a bit. She had ruined this nice lunch. Biting her lip she sat in silence. She just wanted to apologize over and over till she made it ok. How could she have ruined it so badly? "I'm sorry...maybe I should just go...I'm sorry..." She whispered looking at the table. Astrid didn't want to go but she had ruined it. She had wanted this to be nice. Her memories though destroyed that chance. He felt he was responsible and it wasn't even his fault. Ace wouldn't believe that though. All he knew was he made her cry. Which was a lie. She had done it and she couldn't stop it. "I'm sorry I really wanted this to be a nice time..."

"I'm sorry...maybe I should just go...I'm sorry..."
Ace looked at her in surprise. Why was she apologizing? "No, no... it's fine. Really. You don't have to apologize or nothin'. I mean... at least eat before you go..."
He was making things worse... He should be the one apologizing.
"I'm sorry I really wanted this to be a nice time..."
He bit his lip and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "No... I'm sorry. I kinda started this whole thing on the wrong foot. So don't apologize." He gave her a small smile. "Let's just forget everything and eat lunch, okay?"

Astrid Nodded a bit. "I'll eat..." She said softly.
No... I'm sorry. I kinda started this whole thing on the wrong foot. So don't apologize. Let's just forget everything and eat lunch, okay?
"Don't be sorry..." She whispered a bit. "We can forget. Start over." Astrid said with a smile.

"I'll eat..."
Ace let out a small sigh of relief. The lunch wasn't totally ruined yet.
"Don't be sorry... We can forget. Start over."
He pursed his lips thoughtfully and nodded. "Sounds good to me." He gave her small smile. "We can forget, and start this all forever."

"It's a deal then." Astrid smiled a bit. "So...what ya wanna talk about?" She asked. "And no thinkin that ya are sayin anything wrong." Astrid said with a small laugh.

"It's a deal then."
Ace's smile widened some as he nodded again. It looked like the lunch would be saved.
"So... what ya wanna talk about?"
He pursed his lips and shrugged. He wasn't sure what to talk about... He was afraid he might say the wrong thing and ruin things again.
"And no thinkin that ya are sayin anything wrong."
He cracked a small smile. "All right then... um, you got any siblings?" he asked.
It wasn't the best question, but it was a start.

All right then... um, you got any siblings?
Astrid shook her head. "Nah...I always wanted them though. My mother was fine with just me. They both were." she smiled softly.

Ace nodded. "I see..." He cracked a sheepish grin. "I liked bein' an only child, but the Lottie changed all that for all of us."

Astrid smiled some. "I never liked being alone. I liked the thought of having someone look to me for help and just...I wanted someone else around." She looked at the table. I always had my mother though...she said she'd never let me be alone. That she'd always be there..." Astrid smiled at the table.

"I never liked being alone. I liked the thought of having someone look to me for help and just...I wanted someone else around."
Ace nodded some. He could understand that, but when he was younger, he hadn't really felt like he needed a sibling. He had friends and his parents so he had been happy.
"I always had my mother though...she said she'd never let me be alone. That she'd always be there..."
He smiled. "Yeah, but that's what mothers are for. To be there for you..." He sighed a bit, thinking about his own mother. "My mother was like that."

Yeah, but that's what mothers are for. To be there for you...My mother was like that.
Astrid nodded a bit. "Yeah...she always brushed my hair and braided it. She taught me how ta play the violin too...said a proper lady had a pass time and that music was the most beautiful." She looked up at him. "What was she like?" Astrid asked softly.

Ace smiled softly. "Yeah... Mother did that for Lottie." He chuckled softly. "Though my mother and Lottie don't really have any musical talents. At least, that's what my father said."
"What was she like?"
He pursed his lips. "What was she like? Well... she was definitely one of the prettiest ladies I've ever seen." He smiled as he remembered his mother. "She was gentle and nice. Made great food and wa a great nurse... Lottie is awfully lot like her."

"Do all mothers do that for their daughters?" She asked with a smile. "Mother said that not everyone can do it." She laughed a little. "Course she said I had the best teacher."
What was she like? Well... she was definitely one of the prettiest ladies I've ever seen. She was gentle and nice. Made great food and wa a great nurse... Lottie is awfully lot like her.
Astrid smiled listening to him. "Well Lottie sounds like a wonderful girl..."

"Do all mothers do that for their daughters?"
Ace found himself shrugging as their food arrived. "I like ta think they do, but I don't think all mothers do, sadly."
"Mother said that not everyone can do it. Course she said I had the best teacher."
He cocked his head slightly. "So you still play? The violin I mean..."
"Well Lottie sounds like a wonderful girl..."
He grinned. "She certainly is. The best girl I know, but then who am I ta say that?" He chuckled. "I'm a bit biased since I'm her brother."

I like ta think they do, but I don't think all mothers do, sadly.
Astrid nodded in agreement at the sad fact.
So you still play? The violin I mean...
She smiled some. "Yeah...makes me feel close ta her."
She certainly is. The best girl I know, but then who am I ta say that? I'm a bit biased since I'm her brother.
"Maybe just a little biased." Astrid laughed a bit.

"Maybe just a little biased."
He laughed. "Jus' a little biased? Naaaa, you don't have ta cover for me. I know I'm really really biased!"

Ace shrugged lightly. "Maybe. It'd be fun that's for sure."
"Very bias then."
He grinned and then took a bite of his sandwich. It was very good, exactly what he had been expecting. He might just get this sandwich next time as well.

Astrid smiled. "Yeah...it'd be fun. Well if ya wanna just let me know." As there food arrived Astrid smiled at the waitress and thanked her. It smelled as amazing as it could be. Taking a few spoonfuls of her soup she felt herself melt. It was perfect as usual.

He enjoyed the silence as they ate. It wasn't awkward anymore so the silence was bearable.

He cocked his head slightly. "Awww, thanks but I'll have ta pass. This is your soup, and well, one sandwich is good enough for me." He smiled. "I'll definitely try the soup next time, okay?"
