I'll let you know as soon as possible,
Astrid nodded with a smile. This would be fun.
Awww, thanks but I'll have ta pass. This is your soup, and well, one sandwich is good enough for me." He smiled. "I'll definitely try the soup next time, okay?
She shook her head. "It's a lotta soup. Just try some. I won't starve." She said with a smile. "You'll like it promise. Just try it please."

"It's a lotta soup. Just try some. I won't starve. You'll like it promise. Just try it please."
Ace pursed his lips. "I ain't sayin' I won't like it... I jus' um, it's your soup. I feel weird eatin' it," he admitted quietly.
He had never tried someone else's food before, except maybe Lottie's (which didn't really count). He didn't know what to do. It was awkward.

I ain't sayin' I won't like it... I jus' um, it's your soup. I feel weird eatin' it,
Astrid cocked her head a bit. "Think about it this way...you're buying lunch so it's technically your food. Besides its food. It shouldn't be weird."

"Think about it this way...you're buying lunch so it's technically your food. Besides its food. It shouldn't be weird."
Ace shifted in his seat. "But I'm buyin' it for you?"
It still felt odd for him. He wasn't sure what to do. He bought lunch for him and her, but not exactly to share together. What was he supposed to do? He didn't really want to eat her food, because it was her food. He could always try the soup another time. It was sweet of her to offer, but that was something he just didn't feel was right to do.

But I'm buyin' it for you?
Astrid bit her lip. "I'm sorry...I made it worse again..." She said softly. Astrid took a drink of the tea. Why was she constantly making it worse? Why couldn't she just be normal like everyone else? Eating her sandwhich slowly Astrid tried to stay quiet by keeping her mouth full.

"I'm sorry...I made it worse again..."
Ace bit his lip again, making a slight face. "I'm sorry..."
Apparently, that was the wrong move. He sighed softly and ate his sandwich in silence. This lunch just wasn't wanting to go smoothly, now was it?

I'm sorry...
Astrid shook her head. "It's my fault...I just...I don't know...I'm not good with people..." She whispered softly. "I'm sorry..."

Ace shook his head. "No... it's not your fault. I ain't really good wit' girls... it's my fault."
"I'm sorry."
He shook his head again. "I'm the one who's sorry." He gave her a small smile. "It's on me not you."

Astrid shook her head. "I don't think so..." She whispered.
I'm the one who's sorry. It's on me not you.
She looked up to see his smile and looked down quickly deciding what she wanted to say. "You don't need to be sorry...its just...me and Darcy did that..." Astrid said looking up at him. "I don't...I don't know what is right around people sometimes ya know...?"

"I don't think so..."
Ace chuckled somewhat bitterly. "You have no idea..."
"You don't need to be sorry...its just...me and Darcy did that..."
He cocked his head slightly. She mentioned Darcy again... How did she know Darcy? Astrid was from Queens... Darcy was from Brooklyn. He only knew Darcy through Rip. So, how exactly did Astrid know her? He wanted to ask, but now wasn't really the time or place. He already botched this lunch one too many times.
"I don't...I don't know what is right around people sometimes ya know...?"
He nodded as he finished off his sandwich. "I understand... I'm always like that around girls."

You have no idea...
"Really?" She asked quietly.
I understand... I'm always like that around girls.
Astrid smiled weakly and laughed slightly. "Why is it so hard?" She asked with a bit of a laugh. "It shouldn't be this hard should it?"

"Really?"
Ace gave her a wry smile. "Girls in Hoboken run when they see me," he joked. In a more serious tone, he added, "It's not that bad, but ost of the girls in Jersey would rather not date me. Let's jus' put it that way."
"Why is it so hard?"
He shrugged. "I don't know... I think I jus' have bad luck with girls that aren't family."
"It shouldn't be this hard should it?"
He shrugged. "I don't know... maybe it is, maybe it ain't. It's not really for me ta say."

Girls in Hoboken run when they see me, It's not that bad, but ost of the girls in Jersey would rather not date me. Let's jus' put it that way.
"Most girls in Jersey must be crazy..." She said softly. "Anyone would be lucky to to date ya."
I don't know... I think I jus' have bad luck with girls that aren't family
Astrid laughed a bit. "I guess I have no hope then." She smiled.
I don't know... maybe it is, maybe it ain't. It's not really for me ta say.
She sighed. "I dunno...it feels like it shouldn't be."

"Most girls in Jersey must be crazy..."
Ace had a small smile tugging at his lips. "Naw, the girls in Jersey are great. They jus' know how ta avoid a bad date."
"Anyone would be lucky to to date ya."
He shook his head. "Naw... they would be unlucky. I've had my fair share of failed dates, so trust me when I say they'd be unlucky ta date me."
"I guess I have no hope then."
He bit his lip and shrugged. "Well, as a girlfriend... but not necessarily as friends?"
"I dunno...it feels like it shouldn't be."
He shrugged again. "Everyone is entitled ta his own opinion."

"I don't think you're a bad date." She said softly before turning a bit pink.

Astrid shrugged. "Maybe you just haven't met the right girl ta date ya know?"
Well, as a girlfriend... but not necessarily as friends?
She nodded a bit. "Yeah friends is good."
Everyone is entitled ta his own opinion.
Astrid nodded in agreement. That was true. Everyone had their own opinion.

"I don't think you're a bad date."
Ace could feel his face burning. "Ah well... you wouldn't be sayin' that if we wre actually on a date."
"Maybe you just haven't met the right girl ta date ya know?"
He shrugged. "Maybe. I jus' don't think I need ta be lookin' for one, you know? Lottie comes first. When she's older, I suppose then I could try my shot at datin' again."
"Yeah friends if good."
He smiled. At least one thing had gone right for this lunch.

Astrid smiled a bit. "Think this is a better test of character." She said with a small smile.
Maybe. I jus' don't think I need ta be lookin' for one, you know? Lottie comes first. When she's older, I suppose then I could try my shot at datin' again.
"Have ya talked ta Lottie about what she thinks ya should do?" Astrid asked. "Ya could be using her as an excuse even when she's older."

"Think this is a better test of character."
Ace shrugged. After all, who was he to say? Though, he really did think she would change her mind about him if they were ever to go on a real date.
"Have ya talked ta Lottie about what she thinks ya should do?"
He cocked his head to the side. "A little... why?"
"Ya could be using her as an excuse even when she's older."
He frowned a little. "Lottie ain't an excuse. I shouldn't be chasin' skirts when I got a siblin' ta look after. I promised Mum and Dad that I'd take good care of her until she was ready ta go off on her own."

Astrid sat back in her chair watching him a bit taken aback. "Alright. My bad then." She said quiet taking a drink.

"Alright. My bad then."
Ace remained silent as he finished off his sandwich and tea. He was a little upset with Astrid's accusation. He would never use his sister as an excuse. The reason why he was looking out for Lottie first was first off because of his promise to his parents. Second, well, he learned his lesson the hard way. He almost lost Lottie thanks to him "skirt chasing," and he wasn't about to make that mistake again. Lottie was still a kid, and Ace needed to keep an eye on her until he was absolutely sure she could handle herself on her own. He was putting his sister first and over having a girlfriend. Blood was more important than girlfriends.

Astrid finished her soup and the rest of her sandwhich. She had upset Ace and well he was being a bit harsh. It was her fault though. She had spoken her thoughts and that's what got her in this trouble. Maybe this is why boys never asked her out. Was she just a problem? Could all she do was make people regret being around her? What was wrong with her...? Astrid was watching the table holding the tea cup in her hands contemplating this all. Was that the reason that Darcy left without a word? Was it her fault?

Ace stared at his empty cup of tea. He was still upset with Astrid, but he knew he shouldn't hold it against her. She hadn't known that was a touchy subject for him, but he really wished she had been a little more careful about it.
He sighed softly. "I'm sorry... it's just a touchy subject for me when it comes ta datin' and such. My little sister is all the I got left." He glanced over at her. "I'm sorry for snappin' at you. That wasn't very nice of me..."
He should have kept his temper in check, but it was hard when he was hurting. He really needed to work on that.

Astrid looked at the table. "At least you have someone..." She whispered. Astrid didn't look up from the table. Shaking her head a bit Astrid finally looked up at him. "It's fine...Don't worry about it..." She looked back down trying to not let the thoughts that were circling her head drag her back down.

"At least you have someone..."
Ace winced slightly at her comment. There was still alot he didn't know about her. His big mouth had messed things up again.
"It's fine...Don't worry about it..."
He sighed softly as he began paying for their meal. "I really am sorry..."
But apologies were almost never enough to truly make things better.

Astrid looked up and smiled softly. "It's fine." She looked out the window quickly then back at Ace. "Now that chocolate cake." Glancing at the cups she looked up at him. "Do you want more tea? It'll help with the chocolate."
