"Yeah, probably. I'm always checkin' up on things so you'll probably see me around eventually."
Lacey had no problem with that, actually quite happy that she would be getting to see him again. She didn't entirely care why it was... Although she figured that it being for something good would be better than him finding her to soak her or beat him with his cane or something.
"Be seein' ya around then."
She nodded briefly in return to him, seeing as how she didn't have a cap to tip at him in return. It didn't take her long once she got back to set up the bottles and everything at the dock, making her way back to the lodging house and just sitting outside, leaning against the outside wall. It had cooled off a bit, and it was pleasantly warm, so she figured that it would be a good enough way to end the day.

[Alright, sounds good! Why don't we just continue it here, just so that we don't keep making a ton of threads for one day, and then just getting in a little bit more and making another one XD We could absolutely make another one if you wanted to, as well, though. Have a good meal!]

[Alrighty, sounds good to me! I'm actually heading off to dinner now, but here's a start for you! I'll be back soon!]
It had been nearly three days now since Lacey and Spot had done anything that had raised any eyebrows [mainly her brothers', of course]. Either way, Lacey had managed to go to Manhattan and back a few times since then, talking to Jack for Spot and then reporting back, then repeating that a few more times. She found that being a bird was hard, but it was worth it and rewarding whenever she would get to see Spot smile or laugh about something.
She had gotten quite comfortable around Spot, with things having been going on now for however long they had been happening - a week to a week and a half or so - and she found that she really did enjoy being around him. She found whatever excuse she could to be around him - again, in a completely platonic sort of way.
Making her way back to the docks once again, she cleared her throat softly, sitting on one of the boxes there and smoothing out her clothes a bit. "Jack says 'e wants to meet up in person... Somethin' 'bout Rip or somethin' like that. He wouldn't tell me." Her voice was a bit quieter as she spoke.

The last couple of days had been busy as ever. Although, this time he had managed to sleep a little more, but he still had slight bags under his eyes. He was probably yawning a little more than normal, not a good sign. He would always tell himself that he'd get more sleep the next day. Sadly, that didn't always happen. He had finished selling and his rounds so he decided to head on over to the docks to practice shooting. He had found a few more bottles to add to his little range. It felt good to be practicing again. Boots had given some real good shooters again. He had just shot three bottles when he heard someone clear their throat. He paused his shooting to see who was there. "Jack says 'e wants to meet up in person... Somethin' 'bout Rip or somethin' like that. He wouldn't tell me."He frowned as he listened to Lacey. He stuffed his shooters and slingshot into his pocket and hopped down beside her. "Jack jus' say he wanted ta meet in person? Nothin' else?" He wanted to gauge what Jack's reaction was to Lacey in order to know how serious this conversation with Rip was going to be and how soon he should probably go to see him. ((Okay! Hope you have a nice dinner!))

"Jack jus' say he wanted ta meet in person? Nothin' else?"
Lacey shook her head, sighing a bit. "'E said it's too dangerous ta say and not say to you. He doesn't want anyone else knowin'." She swallowed. "I know for sure that it's serious. That's all I know." It worried her to think that there was something bad happening with something so serious. Someone could hurt Spot, and Brooklyn in the process.
"He said tomorrow after you're done sellin' to meet him at Tibby's." She glanced over at Spot, trying to gage how serious the situation was by the look on the boy's face. With it being Spot, however... It was a bit harder than it may have originally seemed.

"'E said it's too dangerous ta say and not say to you. He doesn't want anyone else knowin'."
Spot furrowed his brows. He didn't like the sound of that. If Jack thought it was too dangerous, then things with Rip must be pretty bad.
"I know for sure that it's serious. That's all I know."
He nodded slowly as he frowned. "Yeah... real serious."
"He said tomorrow after you're done sellin' to meet him at Tibby's."
He couldn't help but let his frown deepen. He wanted to find out things now! But then again... if Jack was telling him to meet up tomorrow, then it probably wasn't as serious as Spot had been thinking.
He sighed. "Okay... Tamorrow at Tibby's..."
It was going to be a long night of wondering and worrying about what Jack wanted to tell him. He was already wishing it was tomorrow so that he would stop jumping to conclusions about what Jack needed to tell them. But it wasn't like anyone could tell he was worrying and jumping to conclusions. Spot had the best poker face, after all.

"Yeah... real serious."
Those words felt like a knife to the gut, considering they were just confirming that things could get bad in Brooklyn. It wasn't even just Spot that was in danger, necessarily. From what she could tell, Rip would do anything for revenge... And that could include hurting anyone. "How bad... Is he?" She asked slowly, referring to Rip and what he was willing to do in order to get revenge.
"Okay... Tamorrow at Tibby's..."
Lacey slowly nodded, swallowing thickly. There was a tense atmosphere surrounding Spot now, and she felt a bit bad knowing that she had caused it. Maybe in the future, it would be better to tell him the day that Jack wants to meet up. I'm gonna worry him more... "'M sorry," She blurted out, "I shoulda just told ya tamorrow."

"How bad... Is he?"
Spot was shaken from his thoughts. "How bad is he?" He blinked and then realized she was referring to Rip. "Pretty bad..."
He didn't really like talking about the guy. After all, it was practically Rip's fault that Darcy left the state. And well, they had a pretty rough history even before they both became leaders of their boroughs. He supposed something from then must be the root of the revenge. He just didn't know what it was.
"'M sorry. I shoulda just told ya tamorrow"
He was stunned by Lacey's sudden apology. "What? It's fine... I mean, it's better that I know sooner than later anyways. Besides, I had plans for tamorrow and now I know I need ta change them instead of gettin' all worked up the day of havin' to rearrange plans. Jackie-boy probably wanted ya ta tell me taday anyways."
Good birds sent news in immediately whether good or bad. He hoped Lacey understood that. He had heard that girls tend to feel more emotionally towards news... maybe a girl bird wasn't the best idea after all? But Lacey had proven herself as a bird. Maybe this was just this once. He needed to stop assuming things and think straight.

"Pretty bad..."
Lacey nodded slowly, a lump forming in her throat at the thought. It was obvious that there was more to it... But it was also obvious that those words were all she was going to be getting that day.
"What? It's fine... I mean, it's better that I know sooner than later anyways. Besides, I had plans for tamorrow and now I know I need ta change them instead of gettin' all worked up the day of havin' to rearrange plans. Jackie-boy probably wanted ya ta tell me taday anyways."
Lacey sighed softly, nodding a bit and glancing away. "'M worried, Spot. What if somethin' happens? Ta you? Or ta someone else here? What're we supposed to do if we lose the leader that we have? We don't have anyone else."

"'M worried, Spot."
Spot swallowed nervously. "It ain't anythin' ta really start worryin' about yet."
It was true. You shouldn't count your chickens before you eggs hatched. Worrying wouldn't help them one bit. It would just make things worse.
"What if somethin' happens? Ta you?"
He sighed. "I don't exactly know. I can only hope for the best an' be careful."
"Or ta someone else here? What're we supposed to do if we lose the leader that we have? We don't have anyone else."
He winced at the mention of someone else getting hurt because of Rip. He had already lost his cousin; he wasn't about to lose anyone else. But, since Darcy was gone, he doubted Rip would pull something like that again. As long as his newsies stayed on their side of the border, they wouldn't be harmed in this mess.
"If we're careful," he started slowly, getting ready to being his carefully practiced speech for future plans if something happened to him. "No one will get hurt. If somethin' does happen ta me... Lookout will stand in and Jack will help make sure Brooklyn's fine until I return or things get sorted out."

"It ain't anythin' ta really start worryin' about yet."
But Lacey was already worried. She had three brothers - all of which were newsies - and she had to worry about them on top of everything else. It was a pain, but she didn't know what else she could do.
"I don't exactly know. I can only hope for the best an' be careful."
It didn't do much to calm her nerves, although she forced herself to swallow her fear so that she could at least try to pull off looking as though she wasn't nervous.
"If we're careful, no one will get hurt. If somethin' does happen ta me... Lookout will stand in and Jack will help make sure Brooklyn's fine until I return or things get sorted out."
Lacey closed her bright hazel eyes tightly, nodding slowly and chewing on her lip. "If you're sure... Then I won't worry about it. So, um, do you have somethin' else that ya want me to do?" She asked, a bit desperate for a distraction from the whole 'Rip' thing, and it showed in her voice and on her features as she looked at him.

"If you're sure... Then I won't worry about it."
Spot nodded firmly. "I'm sure. As long as our newsies stay in Brooklyn territory, we should all be fine. No one'll get hurt."
"So, um, do you have somethin' else that ya want me to do?"
He pursed his lips. If Jack was worried about Rip, he probably should go over to Staten and give Thunder a heads up. It might help things since last time he hadn't said one word to his older brother. Also, the other boroughs might need to be alerted of Rip's activity if it got serious.
"Actually there is somethin'..." he said quietly. "Find Lookout and tell 'im to take charge for a couple days. I'm headin' out ta Staten for some um business... Also tell, Lookout to tell the other boids ta go out and get word from other boroughs. Haven't been talkin' with Bronx and Harlem very often so we need ta know what's goin' on over there. The Battery should be checked on too."

"I'm sure. As long as our newsies stay in Brooklyn territory, we should all be fine. No one'll get hurt."
Lacey sighed softly, nodding in defeat at his words. If he was sure about it, then she wasn't going to question him. He was the one that knew Rip, and she didn't, so she figured that he would know what was happening better than she would have either way.
Lacey nodded a bit, swallowing thickly and stepping back from him. "Whatever you say..." She mumbled, turning slowly and beginning to head back towards the lodging houses where she had last seen Lookout lounging around after finishing up selling his papes. However, she suddenly stopped and turned back around, having fully processed his words. "Wait, a couple days? W-why are ya leavin' for a couple days?" She asked, her heart once again beginning to pound faster in her chest.

"Whatever you say..."
Spot sighed softly. He hated that things had to be so serious now. He was starting to miss those nice, quiet moments he had spent with Lacey a couple days ago.
"Wait, a couple days? W-why are ya leavin' for a couple days?"
"Whoa, whoa, hold up!" He raised his hands in defense and slipped into his more Irish accent. "I did na say I was leavin' for a couple o' days! I jus' said tha Lookout would be in charge for a couple o' days jus' in case I have ta stay in 'Hattan tamorrow. I did na say anythin' about leavin'... I am only stoppin' in Staten for a brief visit. I'll be in Brooklyn tanight."

"Whoa, whoa, hold up!"
Lacey's eyes widened. Oh no, here comes an accent...
Lacey didn't really know how to react. Normally, she would have replied with something witty or sweet, depending on how she was feeling... But the sudden change in accents had completely thrown her off. She opened her mouth to say something, but promptly closed it again, realizing that she really didn't have anything to say.
After a couple more seconds of just staring at him with wide eyes, she cleared her throat. "O-Oh, uh... Okay." She slowly turned once again, although she didn't move. Her feet didn't want to take her anywhere.

Spot panted a bit after his little outburst then made a face as he realized that he had slipped into his Irish accent. He pinched the bridge of his nose and muttered something angrily in Gaelic under his breath.
"O-Oh, uh... Okay."
"Sorry... Did na," he cleared his throat. "I mean did not mean ta get so worked up..."
It was always bad when his Irish accent slipped out. He really hated it... Made him think too much about Darcy which then turned to thoughts about Rip and all that mess.
He sighed and apologized again. "I'm sorry... It's been a rough coupla days."
Lacey didn't need him blowing up on her.

"I mean did not mean ta get so worked up..."
Lacey sighed, slowly turning back to face him and shrugging a bit. "I-It doesn't matta to me. 'S better to have ya gettin' angry at me than at someone else. I can take anythin' you throw at me." She smiled weakly.
"I'm sorry... It's been a rough coupla days."
If it had been anyone else in the world, Lacey would have immediately embraced them. She actually took a few steps back towards Spot, although she didn't end up hugging him. She wanted to, definitely - she thought that things like that showed that someone cared and was there for you. The only reason that she stopped herself with Spot was the fact that he was Spot... And that probably wouldn't be received too well.
"No, it's my fault... I shouldn'ta brought anythin' up past what Jack said. It probably woulda been better for me to leave a few minutes ago... But I guess I should just do it now." She laughed weakly, although she didn't move. She didn't want to leave. Not when Spot seemed to be in such a bad position. "Is there anythin' else I can do for ya?"

"I-It doesn't matta to me. 'S better to have ya gettin' angry at me than at someone else. I can take anythin' you throw at me."Spot frowned at her comment. "I shouldn't be gettin' angry at no one." Especially not at a girl, he thought to himself. "A leader shouldn't snap at his followers or hurt 'em." He hated that she would think that he would hurt her or any other newsie for that matter. He wasn't that sort of guy. Yes, his boys could make him real mad, but he would never hurt them unless that was the only choice he had. Thank goodness it had rarely ever come to that. "No, it's my fault... I shouldn'ta brought anythin' up past what Jack said. It probably woulda been better for me to leave a few minutes ago... But I guess I should just do it now." He found himself sighing again as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "You really don't have ta apologize. Maybe we were both in the wrong, maybe not. Let's just drop it an' leave it in the past." "Is there anything' else I can do for ya?"He scratched the back of his neck. "Well... I do need word from Staten... Maybe you could come along wit' me and then find Staten's leada Biscuit and see what's going on for him and his borough..." This would kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Lacey would get word from Staten while at the same time helping Soot look like he was out causally not for business. He felt bad that it kind of seemed like he was just using her. But he really needed to hear from Biscuit and needed some cover. And well, it would be nice to have someone to walk with. ((I gotta head off to bed. 😅 I'll get on when I can tomorrow. ))

"A leader shouldn't snap at his followers or hurt 'em."
Lacey shrugged, "Well, ya didn't hurt me, so you're in the clear with that. Don't worry 'bout it. Really. It's nothin' that ya need ta feel bad about." She insisted, not willing to let him worry about something that really didn't make any difference in how she thought about him or anything. "You really don't have ta apologize. Maybe we were both in the wrong, maybe not. Let's just drop it an' leave it in the past."
Lacey nodded in agreement, quite eager to leave it all behind, as well. She didn't want to have to deal with the thoughts of being in a bad place with Spot. She cared too much about him as a leader to do something like that. She didn't want him thinking badly of her, and she was refusing to allow herself to even think about thinking badly of him in return. "Well... I do need word from Staten... Maybe you could come along wit' me and then find Staten's leada Biscuit and see what's going on for him and his borough..."
Lacey nodded a bit. She could do that, quite easily. She had no problem going anywhere outside of Brooklyn as long as she was with someone else, and the fact that she was with Spot, the greatest fighter in all of Brooklyn when it came down to it, made her all the more willing to go out with him and check things out in Staten Island. "Sure, if ya want me to. I could do that." She smiled a bit. "Should we get goin'?" [Alright! Have a good night! I'll be here whenever you are ]

Spot was still frowning, but he decided not to press the issue. There was really no point in arguing.
"Sure, if ya want me to. I could do that."
He nodded. "Yeah... I'd like for you ta do it."
"Should we get goin'?"
He nodded again, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "It's a long walk... so yeah."

"Yeah... I'd like for you ta do it."
Lacey smiled a bit. Spending time with Spot sounded like fun to her, so who was she to say no? Plus, it would be good to see the other boroughs and meet the leaders of the boroughs and such. She would need to know about them if she was ever going to be a really good bird. "Then that's exactly what I'll do."
"It's a long walk... so yeah."
Lacey nodded briefly, not hesitating before beginning to walk away from the docks with Spot. She didn't know exactly how long it would take them to get to Staten Island, although she assumed that it would be longer than it would take to get somewhere like Manhattan or something like that. It was quite a bit further away from Brooklyn than Manhattan was, at least.

"Then that's exactly what I'll do."
Spot couldn't help but be impressed with her positive attitude. She really was starting to feel like a loyal bird.
He started away from the docks with Lacey beside him. They stayed close to the docks. There was a bridge being built to Staten from Brooklyn, but it wasn't quite done yet. If he had been by himself, he would have tried to see if it was safe enough to cross when the workers weren't looking. Since Lacey was with him, they would have to go the long way. He didn't really mind though. This gave him the chance to check up on the other boroughs some on the way.

Deep down, Lacey was actually quite nervous about leaving the borough for a place that she had never been before. Manhattan was familiar to her, and so was Brooklyn, so those were the places that she had been sent repeatedly as a bird so far. Now, she was going somewhere completely different, and that worried her more than anything else. All of her focus and energy, however, went in to making sure that she didn't seem nervous or afraid. She didn't know if that would go over too well with Spot, and she was desperate to impress him.
Catching a glimpse of the nearly finished bridge, Lacey figured that it would be the fastest way, but probably not the safest. She appreciated the fact that Spot didn't seem to be going towards it, considering she didn't know if she would do too well with hiding from people and crossing a bridge that she didn't even know for sure was secure.
