Lacey slowly raised her eyes to meet Spot's piercing gaze, swallowing thickly. "That's what you weren't tellin' me, wasn't it? That he's your brother?" She asked. She was a lot of things, but stupid wasn't one of them. Lacey knew perfectly well how to put the pieces of a puzzle together, especially when they were laid out in all the right places already.
She nearly laughed at how stupid the whole thing had been. She had thought that there was something seriously bothering him about Rip or something, but he had been hiding a part of his family from her? Now she felt as though everything had been pointless from before.
"'M sorry..." She sighed. "I freaked out a bit." Yeah, because it wasn't obvious...

"sorry. Been kinda crazy couple of days."
Thunder frowned at his words. "You haven't been gettin' good sleep," he accused, getting to the root of the problem. He could see the bags under Spot's eyes. He knew lack of sleep wasn't the only problem, but it sure was a big one!
"Oh! No, n-no, it's not... It's not like that with us."
He quickly gave her apologetically look. "So sorry..." He grinned sheepishly. "Just not every day I see Spot wit' a goil."
"Not exactly, Thunder... We came about business."
"We came ta talk to Biscuit and you 'bout Staten and stuff."
He raised an eyebrow. "Business? Somethin' up in Brooklyn?" He rolled back his shoulder muscles some. If Brooklyn needed backup, he'd be there in a heartbeat.

"You haven't been gettin' good sleep.
Spot winced at the accusation. "Well um I have... gotten some sleep."
"That's what you weren't tellin' me, wasn't it? That he's your brother?"
He winced again and fiddled with his key, keeping his eyes away from his brother and Lacey. "Somethin' like that..."
"M sorry... I freaked out a bit."
Spot shrugged and kept his eyes on his key. There really wasn't much for him to say.
"Business? Somethin' up in Brooklyn?"
He glanced up at his brother. "Eh... not exactly. Jus' um Rip stuff."

"Just not every day I see Spot wit' a goil."
Lacey laughed a bit, a deep blush forming on her cheeks as she looked away. "No, no need ta apologize..." She smiled a bit, although she was suddenly quite shy and bashful. She supposed that Spot wasn't often times around girls because they hung all over him... But had anyone ever truly crushed on him before? Yeah, before now, at least...
"Somethin' like that..."
Great. I'm an idiot.
"Business? Somethin' up in Brooklyn?"
Lacey frowned a bit, looking at Spot. She didn't know for sure if it was her place to say... Especially after her outburst and stuff.

"Well um I have... gotten some sleep."
He shook his head. "Really, Spot? Some sleep obviously ain't cuttin' it for you. Get some sleep, ya bonehead." He light decked his brother.
"No, no need ta apologize..."
Thunder rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "Ah well... Still feel bad." He gave her a hopeful look. "I hope that don't damage our friendship in the future?"
"Eh... not exactly. Jus' um Rip stuff."
He immediately frowned and became serious. "Rip?" He really didn't like the sound of that. "I should come back ta Brooklyn. Why didn't you say anythin' when you were here the other night?" He crossed his arms, very put out and concerned for his brother.
He glanced over at Lacey. She seemed to have a good head on her shoulders if she was still sticking around Spot when he was in this sort of mood. He would have to pull aside to talk before the two left.

"I hope that don't damage our friendship in the future?"
Lacey's lips quirked into a smile, shaking her head. "Absolutely not. It'd be stupid ta let it ruin somethin' like that." She smiled kindly, clearing her throat and allowing her gaze to once again flicker to her feet as though they were the most interesting things in the world.
Hearing about Spot having come the previous night suddenly made sense to her, figuring that things had been harder for him to keep up with because of constant visits to Staten. Now she understood why. He had family there. "Comin' back ta Brooklyn might be the thing that ya shouldn't do." She pointed out, not wanting an entire family to be in danger because of this "Rip" character.

"Really, Spot? Some sleep obviously ain't cuttin' it for you. Get some sleep, ya bonehead."
Spot scowled and rubbed his head. "I manage..."
He bit his lip as his brother mentioned coming back to Brooklyn. He certainly hoped things would not get that bad. Besides, he could handle it!
"It's not that bad... At least, from what me and Lacey have hoid. Besides, you got Jasper to think of," Soot reminded his brother. "I can handle myself."

"It's not that bad... At least, from what me and Lacey have hoid. Besides, you got Jasper to think of."
Of course, Lacey figured that this was a bit of an understatement, although she didn't comment on it. She wasn't willing to get into another fight with Spot again - although even the one before had been extremely one-sided. However, one thing caught her attention.
"Who's Jasper?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.

"I manage...
Thunder snorted. "Sure you do..."
"It's not that bad... At least, from what me and Lacey have hoid. Besides, you got Jasper to think of. I can handle myself."
He huffed. "Handle it? Yeah right... Last time Rip almost killed ya! And I didn't hear nothin' about it until Jack told me! Ya call that handlin'? I'm not about to let that kid hurt ya again."
"Comin' back ta Brooklyn might be the thing that ya shouldn't do."
He appreciated her concern, but he was a big brother. He couldn't let something happen to his younger sibling.
"Who's Jasper?"
Thunder made an odd humming sound in the back of his throat. Seems like Spot had seriously hushed things up about him and Jasper. Not like Thunder could blame him... It would be bad if Rip found out and tried to use Jasper to get to Spot.
"He's our kid brother. Cutest little pipsqueak this side of New York," he said fondly.
((I gotta head off to bed. I'll catch up with you tomorrow!))

[Goodnight! Have a nice night! xx]
"Last time Rip almost killed ya! And I didn't hear nothin' about it until Jack told me! Ya call that handlin'? I'm not about to let that kid hurt ya again."
Lacey's eyes widened in horror, turning her attention back to Spot. That was another thing that he had refrained from telling her, although now she had no idea why. If Spot's life was in danger, then why would he keep that from anyone? Why wouldn't he accept help that people could give him?
"Spot..." She choked out once more, "Rip almost...?" She couldn't even say it. The thought was horrible, and it was too much for her to handle. The leader of Brooklyn was in danger, and she had no idea how to help. She felt horrible.
"He's our kid brother. Cutest little pipsqueak this side of New York."
Lacey swallowed thickly, once again looking over at Spot. She got that she wasn't exactly close enough to be told extremely personal things, but family wasn't something that she saw why he had to hide. Even just mentioning them in passing would have at least prepared her for Thunder being his brother.

"Sure you do..."
Spot huffed despite knowing that Thunder was right. He wasn't exactly handling the whole sleep thing very well, but it wasn't like he wasn't getting any sleep. You had to give him credit for that.
"Handle it? Yeah right... Last time Rip almost killed ya! And I didn't hear nothin' about it until Jack told me! Ya call that handlin'? I'm not about to let that kid hurt ya again."
He flinched at his brother's words. Apparently, Thunder was still mad about the fact that he didn't exactly mention all about Rip until everything happened. It gave his poor brother quite the shock, not that you could blame him. But it was going to be different this time. After all, Spot had come all the way to Staten to inform Thunder about Rip and this time he was prepared.
"Spot... Rip almost...?"
Spot wished he could hide. He hated all this coming out like this. His fingers played around with his key as he fidgeted some under Thunder and Lace's gaze. "Yeah... He almost... but he didn't."

"Yeah... He almost... but he didn't."
Thunder was scowling down at his brother. "Almost is too close, an' you know it! An' Darce is gone too," Thunder added a bit quietly.
He felt that was more of his fault than Spot's. He should have been checking up on their cousin. If he had, well things could've been different. This was why he was being so adamant with his brother right now. He wasn't about to make the same mistake twice!

"Yeah... He almost... but he didn't."
Lacey felt horrible. How had she not seen this coming? How had she not known that Rip was dangerous in that way? All it probably would have taken to find out was one more question to one more newsie. But she had never even thought of it. She had thought that it would be impossible. But obviously, she was wrong.
"Almost is too close, an' you know it! An' Darce is gone too,"
Lacey didn't need any more explanations about who "Darce" was. She didn't waste a moment before embracing Spot tightly, her arms wrapping around his body in the most comforting way that she could. She didn't know what else she could do. She wasn't entirely good at comforting people besides with hugs. However, with Spot, she was risking making him freak out at her.
Slowly, she pulled away, stepping back from him once again with her hazel eyes glued to the ground. "Sorry... It felt like the right thing ta do..." She mumbled, although she didn't make eye contact.

"Almost is too close, an' you know it! An' Darce is gone too.
Spot was wincing again. He knew that Thunder wasn't accusing him of anything, but his words hurt. It made the guilt come afresh upon him.
"I know..." he said quietly.
Spot didn't see it coming, and he was sure Thunder hadn't either. Lacey seemed to come out of nowhere and gave him a fierce but somehow comforting hug. It was weird. He hadn't been hugged like this since who knows when.
"Sorry... It felt like the right thing ta do."
He coughed, cheeks turning pink. He just knew Thunder would have a word about that later... "'ts okay..."

"I know..."
Thunder sighed softly. He hated having to make his brother guilty, but it got him out of his stubborn streak and made him really think about what he was doing.
He raised an eyebrow as Lacey suddenly hugged Spot. A slight smirk tugged at his lips as he noted the blush on Spot's cheeks. Seems like this girl was pretty good for Spot. He really was going to have to speak with her once they got a moment.

"'ts okay..."
Lacey's cheeks were still flushed bright red, her gaze shooting anywhere except for the brothers, desperate to avoid any confrontations. However, Spot didn't sound necessarily mad, which she assumed had to be a good thing. It at least meant that she wasn't going to be murdered while his brother was still around.
She shrugged a bit, trying her best to laugh, although it was slightly awkward and strained. "Still."
With one glance up at the sky to approximate the time until they should leave, she swallowed thickly. "How late're ya wantin' ta stay here?"

"How late're ya wantin' ta stay here?"
Spot cleared his throat again, finally finding the words to speak. "Not too late... jus' gotta um let Thunder know about me an' Rip."
There really was no use staying anymore after that. He needed to get back to Brooklyn and check in with Lookout with Lacey and prepare with meeting up with Jack tomorrow.
"Oh and um," he turned back to his brother. "I'm meetin' up wit' Jack tamorrow... He said it's important an' probably has ta do wit' Rip."

"Not too late... jus' gotta um let Thunder know about me an' Rip."
Lacey nodded slowly, swallowing thickly, although she didn't know what else there was to say about Rip anymore, considering the only thing that ran through her mind now when the thought of Rip came to mind was that Spot had almost been killed because of him. There was no way that she would let that happen again. Not while she was there to do something about it.

"Not too late... jus' gotta um let Thunder know about me an' Rip."
Thunder raised his eyebrow slightly. There was more?
"Oh and um, I'm meetin' up wit' Jack tamorrow,,, He said it's important an' probably has ta do wit' Rip."
He nodded. Jack was a trustworthy guy and probably knew alot more about Rip than most of the leaders (outside of maybe Spot). He probably had very useful information to share with Spot, but Thunder couldn't help but be worried for his brother.
"Keep me updated." He smiled at Lacey. "It was nice meetin' ya. I hope we will be seein' each other more often?"
Mostly to keep an eye on Spot, but it wouldn't hurt to get to know the girl better. She seemed like a nice girl for his brother.

"It was nice meetin' ya. I hope we will be seein' each other more often?"
Lacey shot Thunder a small smile, the blush still present on her cheeks from the hug and not showing any signs of fading anytime soon. "Yeah... Sounds good ta me. Nice ta meet ya too." She smiled a bit, pausing a moment before continuing "Your brother's real nice. He's somethin' special." She grinned slightly. She figured that she could keep an eye on his as well as anyone, so what was the point in not doing the best that she could and reporting things to his brother now that she knew who he was?

"Keep me updated."
Spot nodded. "Yeah, sure thin'."
He wasn't about to keep Thunder in the dark this time. It really wasn't fair to him or Jasper.
"It was nice meetin' ya. I hope we will be seein' each other more often?"
He couldn't help but shoot a look at his brother. He really didn't like it when his brother flirted, especially not with girls from his borough.

"Yeah, sure thin'."
Thunder nudged his brother playfully. "Good, I don't want things bein' like last time."
"Yeah... Sounds good ta me. Nice ta meet ya too."
He flashed his brightest smile. "Good. Good."
"Your brother's real nice. He's somethin' special."
A soft smile tugged at his lips. "Yeah... Spot is really somethin'," he said softly. "Keep a good eye on him for me, won't ya?"

"Keep a good eye on him for me, won't ya?"
Lacey's lips quirked up into a smile. "Absolutely."
Lacey smiled a bit, turning her attention back to Spot, who seemed to once again be frowning about something. She sighed softly, taking his hand once again and beginning to walk with him away from Thunder. She figured that there were things that the pair of them should speak about... Especially when it came down to everything that Thunder had revealed about his family.
"'M sorry... Again." She sighed softly, letting go of his hand once more and slowing back down to a normal walking pace. "I just don't like the thought of someone hurtin' ya."

"Good, I don't want things bein' like last time."
Spot made a slight face. "Don't worry... it definitely won't go like the last time."
He glanced back at Thunder and Lacey as they seemed to be talking privately, about him no doubt. They seemed to hit off well. That could be a good thing... but then it might backfire on him.
"'M sorry... Again."
He looked at her in surprise and squinted some. He glanced down at their hands as her hand slipped away. He hadn't even noticed that they had been holding hands. Had he grabbed hers? Man, Thunder was going to give him an earful the next time they met!
"I just don't like the thought of someone hurtin' ya."
Spot shrugged. "Comes with bein' a leader."

"Absolutely."
Thunder grinned. "I appreciate it. Spot can be a handful at times, but he's got a good heart."
He waved goodbye to her and his brother and watched as they headed off to Brooklyn. He noticed that they held hands for a brief moment and couldn't help but wonder if maybe something more would develop between the two newsies.
