"Ah well... it ain't like I'm goin' anywhere soon, or um, you. I kinda plan on stickin' in Brooklyn after I'm done as a newsie."
Lacey smiled as much as she could muster up at the thought of Spot leaving, nodding a bit. "I know. I'm gonna probably leave before ya, but still... You not bein' the leader of the newsies is gonna be hard to get used to." She shrugged a bit.
She knew that it was a bad idea to get attached to someone. It always was, and it always would be. People died, they left, they betrayed other people... Something always happened. But she was attached to her family, and she was attached to Spot. She didn't want to lose any of them.

"I know. I'm gonna probably leave before ya, but still... You not bein' the leader of the newsies is gonna be hard to get used to."
Spot pursed his lips. "I guess so," he admitted. "It will be kinda weird for me too... not bein' leader and not knowin' what was goin' on as well as I do now."
He stopped as they reached the lodge. A few boys had entered just as Spot and Lacey stepped in front of the lodge. He motioned for Lacey to stay on the porch while he entered. He'd check in with Mr. Thorne about Biscuit and give the lodge a lookover for him before returning to the porch.

"It will be kinda weird for me too... not bein' leader and not knowin' what was goin' on as well as I do now."
Lacey nodded, figuring that it made sense. Although she wasn't a leader, she could understand why it would be hard to get out of something like that, especially since Spot had been at it now for quite a while, and he still had a few more years that he could keep things going. Every day was just going to make it harder for him to say goodbye to it all in the end.
Once they reached what she assumed was the lodge, Spot seemed to want her to remain on the porch. She nodded her head slowly, swallowing thickly and doing as he said, although she couldn't help but feel slightly exposed and nervous. True, Staten may not have typically been violent, but she was an unknown girl in unfamiliar territory. She was quite terrified.

Spot hoped it would be a quick in and out thing at the lodge. He still had to go see Thunder. Mr. Thorne, sadly, was no where to be seen, so Spot reluctantly headed up the stairs to the bunk room. He wasn't too fond of visiting the other lodge's bunk rooms. The boys were always noisier than he would like. He couldn't yell at them since they weren't his newsies so it was really quite frustrating. Thankfully, Biscuit was just coming down the stairs right when Spot was about to go up.
"Biscuit," Spot tipped his hat respectfully at the other leader. "Need ta have a quick talk wit' you and a boid of mine."
The older newsie looked a bit caught off guard seeing the Brooklyn leader in his lodge, but he nodded and followed Spot onto the porch.
"Lacey, dis is Biscuit. Biscuit, Lacey," Spot quickly introduced the taller newsie.
Biscuit politely gave her his hand to shake and greeted her.

"Lacey, dis is Biscuit. Biscuit, Lacey."
Lacey smiled a bit and shook Biscuit's hand. "Nice ta meet ya, Biscuit." He was quite tall and slightly intimidating, but he had a kind face, so she forced herself not to look too terrified. After letting go of his hand, her hazel eyes quickly shot over to Spot, chewing on her lip harshly.

Spot watched the two for a moment. It looked as if they would get along fairly decently once they got to know each other. Biscuit wasn't one to question his pick of birds even if Spot was younger than him. He supposed that was why he respected the Staten leader. The guy respected him even if he was the younger of the two.
"Jus' stoppin' by real quick, Biscuit. Wanted Lacey ta get ta know ya since she might be in this area often." He nodded at Lacey. "And I wanted ta check up on how things are here..." He pursed his lips and glanced at a few boys running down the street. "I also wanted ta check up on some rumors about ya."

"Jus' stoppin' by real quick, Biscuit. Wanted Lacey ta get ta know ya since she might be in this area often."
Lacey shot Biscuit another smile, accompanied by a small hint of nerves, although it was mainly a sort of starstruck feeling. She wasn't used to knowing so many important people in the world of newsies and such. She had only ever really known a few people, but from the moment that she and Spot had really become friends, she was suddenly thrown in to meeting quite a few other important people.
"And I wanted ta check up on how things are here..."
Things seemed to be alright to her, with there being no signs of fights or anything so far. It was better than Brooklyn was, at times. She followed Spot's gaze to some boys running around, frowning a bit and glancing back at him in a questioning manner.
"I also wanted ta check up on some rumors about ya."
That was the part where she finally knew what was happening again. If Biscuit would be leaving, then it would probably be a good idea for her to at least know who the next leader after him was going to be, especially if she was going to be doing anything as a bird in Staten one day.

Biscuit cocked his head to the side. He was caught off guard that Spot wanted to check up on things here. Hadn't he just been here a couple of nights ago? Surely nothing had happened since then that would concern Spot. He shook his head some and explained how Staten was as right as rain. No problems to be spoken of.
"I also wanted ta check up on some rumors about ya."
Biscuit laughed softly at Spot's hinting at rumors. He explained that he wasn't planning on leaving quiet yet, and it was only a rumor. He wasn't quiet ready for that sort of change.
Spot nodded in understanding. He knew Biscuit hated change. So it would have been pretty surprising for him to quitting all of the sudden. Things would be the same for Staten for quite some time.
"Well, glad ta hear it. Don't like rumors bein' spread especially if they ain't true."
Biscuit nodded, grinning slightly before mentioning that Thunder was probably just getting off work if Spot wanted to catch him.

"Well, glad ta hear it. Don't like rumors bein' spread especially if they ain't true."
Lacey smiled a bit, although upon hearing that Thunder would be getting off right around then, she figured that it would be the perfect time to speak to him, and maybe clear up some things with Spot about his relationship with Thunder.
"We should catch 'im before he settles down again for the day." She pointed out, looking over at Spot and crossing her arms over her chest.

"We should catch 'im before he settles down again for the day.
Spot scrunched up his face slightly as Biscuit agreed with Lacey. "Yeah... probably should."
He sighed and gave Biscuit a quick goodbye. He wasn't too happy with Biscuit adding more than he should have. He knew Thunder's schedule well enough without Biscuit inputting his two cents in.

"Yeah... probably should."
Lacey waved goodbye to Biscuit as they left, walking with Spot, although he didn't seem too happy for some reason. Everything that was going on with him was beginning to become too strange for her to just sit and ignore. Finally, she stopped walking, grabbing his arm to keep him from just ditching her there.
"What's really gettin' into you? Ya don't seem happy at all." She commented, frowning slightly. Had she done something wrong that she hadn't even realized? Or was he sad for some reason about Biscuit staying a bit longer?

"What's really gettin' into you? Ya don't seem happy at all."
Spot stopped short when she grabbed his arm. He was caught of guard and that irritated him. "What's that for?" he growled a little. "I'm fine. There's nothin' wrong wit' me."
Well, nothing except the fact that Biscuit should have kept his mouth shut. He didn't need family business coming out like this.

"What's that for?"
Lacey let go of his arm, although she stood her ground, her arms crossed over her chest. She wasn't someone who would back down, especially when there was something so clearly going on with someone that she felt as though could be fixed. "It's ta stop ya from walkin' away from me." She stated, her eyes narrowing in his direction.
"I'm fine. There's nothin' wrong wit' me."
"Ya may be able ta fool other newsies with that, but I don't believe ya. You don't scare me, either, Spot, so don't even think 'bout tryin' somethin' like that. Just tell me what's goin' on with ya. I'm worried about ya." She stated stubbornly.

"It's ta stop ya from walkin' away from me."
Spot frowned. "I wasn't walkin' away from ya..."
He really hadn't been. After all, he couldn't just leave her on her own in Staten. She probably didn't know how to get back to Brooklyn from here.
"Ya may be able ta fool other newsies with that, but I don't believe ya. You don't scare me, either, Spot, so don't even think 'bout tryin' somethin' like that. Just tell me what's goin' on with ya. I'm worried about ya."
He snorted. "It ain't nothin' so drop it. I'm fine."

"I wasn't walkin' away from ya..."
"Ya would have kept walkin' if I hadn't stopped ya. That ain't even the problem here! The problem is that y'aren't willin' ta talk ta anyone about your problems when they really care and wanna help ya!" She exclaimed.
"It ain't nothin' so drop it. I'm fine."
"Spot, please..." She pleaded, grabbing hold of his arm once again, although this time it was in a bit more of an imploring manner. "I know somethin's wrong. It kills me to see someone holdin' somethin' back when they need ta talk about it."

Spot set his lips in a firm line as she yelled at him. He stayed silent, letting her rant.
"Spot, please... I know somethin's wrong. It kills me to see someone holdin' somethin' back when they need ta talk about it."
This was when he chose to pull away from Lacey. "I'm not holdin' anythin' back. Everythin' is fine.... Jus' fine," he added for emphasis.
Family stuff was meant to be kept in the family. The whole borough did not need to know about his family problems.

"I'm not holdin' anythin' back. Everythin' is fine.... Jus' fine,"
Lacey huffed, yanking her arm back to her side as he pulled away from her grip. "You're confusin', y'know? I don't get it." She scoffed slightly, stepping back away from him. "I think that ya could find someone else ta be a boid. I don't think it's worth tryin' ta get close ta you and get ta know ya if you're refusin' ta tell me anythin'." She swallowed thickly.
"I'll see ya back in Brooklyn, Spot..." She mumbled softly, spinning around and beginning to walk back the way that they had come quickly, pulling her sweater a bit tighter around her body as she did so.

"You're confusin', y'know? I don't get it."
Spot scowled. He wouldn't be so confusing to her, if she wouldn't pry into his personal business...
"I think that ya could find someone else ta be a boid. I don't think it's worth tryin' ta get close ta you and get ta know ya if you're refusin' ta tell me anythin'."
His eeyes widened and he was taken back. She was just going to quit? Like that? All because he wasn't telling her his personal affairs? And what was with the whole worth trying to know him? This was getting all too confusing. It wasn't like he was refusing to tell her about newsie business! Birds were meant for newsie stuff. They didn't ask about personal information. Maybe she was right... maybe he did need to find someone else to be a bird.
"I'll see ya back in Brooklyn, Spot..."
He was speechless. He had no words for her. She was just leaving, and he couldn't stop her. He had no right. She quit.

Lacey didn't know how to feel. There were so many thoughts rushing through her head at the same time that she didn't know how to deal with them. She began chewing on her lip even harder than before, swallowing the lump that was forming in her throat as she began backtracking where she had come with Spot.
What was she doing? She was one of the only female newsies in New York, much less Brooklyn. She had worked her way up and now she was just letting herself down all over again. But she couldn't just walk back. Not after that. It was a pride thing on her side as well of a problem with fear. She didn't want to face Spot again after she had gotten herself worked up and said things like that to him. She allowed herself to freak out... And it was something that she tended to do a lot.
"I'm just an idiot sometimes..." She mumbled softly, speaking more to herself than to anyone else.

Thunder was heading towards the book store now that he was finished with work. He had to go pick up Jasper and see about getting some dinner. It had been a good day at the rails so he didn't have to sell in the evening like he normally did. A grin tugged at his lips. This meant he'd be able to spend more time with his little brother.
He whistled some as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. He stopped short when he saw Spot. He cocked his head to the side, surprised to see his brother. He didn't think Spot would be in Staten so early. It was a pleasant surprise. Though, his little brother did not look happy and neither did the girl he was talking to. He didn't know the girl, so he figured she was from Brooklyn. A smirk tugged at his lips. Had his little brother finally gotten a girlfriend? Was he witnessing a little lover's spat?
He picked up his pace towards the two younger newsies. "Hello there. What's up, Spotty-boy?"

"Hello there. What's up, Spotty-boy?"
A sense of relief and dread filled Spot. He cringed slightly at the use of his nickname as he turned to face his brother. "Hullo Thunder..."
He wasn't sure how Lacey was going to react to this, especially since he looked like a younger version of his older brother. Would she even stay to meet him? It could be a good thing... but then it could be bad.

Upon hearing the faint sound of voices from behind her, Lacey's steps slowed slightly. She turned slowly, glancing behind her to see Spot standing there with a boy who was a bit taller than him. She couldn't make out his features from how far she was away, although she didn't move any closer. Not after that. Again... Fear wasn't something that she was all too great with. When she got stressed out or nervous, she would have freak outs, and that was never good for anything.
She swallowed thickly, watching the two boys as they spoke to one another. She couldn't tell if Spot had relaxed at all, or if he was still just as tense as he had been before. While she tried telling herself that she didn't care... She did.
Finally, returning slowly to the two boys, she shot them both a weak smile. "Hello, you must be..." However, she trailed off as she got a good look at Thunder. Slowly, her attention moved back to Spot, her eyes slightly wide. "... Thunder." She finished.

"Hullo Thunder..."
Thunder furrowed his brow slightly, looking down at his little brother. "Well you certainly don't sound too thrilled ta see me."
"Hello, you must be... Thunder"
Thunder gave Lacey a friendly smile. "That'd be correct. You and Spot come ta enjoy the sights of Staten?"
He gave Spot a little nudge and wink.

Lacey's mouth opened, and then promptly closed again as she watched him nudge his brother. Suddenly, her eyes widened, realizing what he meant. "Oh! No, n-no, it's not... It's not like that with us." She swallowed thickly, biting down a bit harder onto her bottom lip.
"We came ta talk to Biscuit and you 'bout Staten and stuff." She shrugged nonchalantly, looking away once again and doing absolutely everything that she could to avoid eye contact with Spot.

"Well you certainly don't sound too thrilled ta see me."
Spot tugged at his cap, trying to keep his brother from reading too much into his feelings. Now wasn't exactly the best time for that. "Sorry," he mumbled. "Been kinda crazy couple of days."
"Hello, you must be... Thunder."
By the look on her face, Spot knew Lacey had connected the dots. It was kind of hard not to notice. The Conlon traits were too obvious to be missed.
"That'd be correct. You and Spot come ta enjoy the sights of Staten?"
He sighed some, wishing his brother would just stop hinting at getting a girlfriend. "Not exactly, Thunder... We came about business."
