Spot was rather quiet during the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. He had alot to think about and alot of worrying to not think about. He tried to keep his focus off what Jack wanted to tell him. He needed to think about what he was going to say to his older brother. He wasn't sure if Lacey was still going to be with him when he found his brother... so he might have some explaining to do. Not very many of his newsies really knew about his brothers. It had been kind of hushed up when Thunder and Jasper moved into Staten, and with the whole Rip case, he didn't really want anyone knowing about them. Lacey may or may not know about them. He shouldn't worry too much about it. She might be busy with talking to Biscuit for all he knew.
They got through Manhattan rather quickly. A few hellos her and there. Spot didn't stop to chit-chat though. They needed to get to Staten.

Lacey figured that Spot being quiet was something that he wanted to keep, so she managed to not say anything throughout the walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Once in Manhattan, she made sure to say hello briefly to a few people, but for the most part, she was focused on making sure that she stayed near Spot.
"How much further away's Staten?" She asked, although she wasn't complaining about the length of the walk. She genuinely had no idea where it was in regards to Manhattan and Brooklyn and such. She had never had any reason to know where it was. She wasn't supposed to leave Brooklyn unless it was on business for Spot, and she had never been sent anywhere but Manhattan.

"How much further away's Staten?"
Spot glanced at Lacey, pursing his lips. "Not too far. Still got another bridge ta cross though."
Well okay, maybe it was still far to go, but Spot was so used to this trip that he didn't really think of it as far. After all, he had walked farther before doing rounds with Jack after the strike. Now that had been alot of walking! Going through all the boroughs was not a piece of a cake. It had been hot and took forever getting through them all.
Once they got into Staten, Spot seemed a little more relaxed. He also seemed to know his way around rather well, almost too well.

"Not too far. Still got another bridge ta cross though."
Lacey nodded slowly, although she figured that 'not too far' was a bit further than Spot would make it seem like it was. There was just something about the way that he spoke that made it pretty clear to her that it was a bit of a lie.
Once they made it to the place that she could tell was Staten from descriptions, however... Spot seemed to be feeling more at home than he had been back in Brooklyn on the docks. She frowned a bit, continuing to walk with him before finally speaking once again. "How come you seem so relaxed over here?" She asked curiously.

"How come you seem so relaxed over here?"
Spot raised an eyebrow. "Hmmm?" He cocked his head to side. "I guess it's cuz it's a ways away from Queens."
Which was true. He did tend to feel a little more relaxed when he was wasn't so close to Queens. It wasn't always like that, but with all this news with Rip he just felt more comfortable away from Queens and Brooklyn. And well, obviously, his brothers were here so he felt more comfortable. It was kinda nice knowing you had a big brother, though he would never admit that out loud. He could take care of himself just fine thank you.

"I guess it's cuz it's a ways away from Queens."
Lacey didn't entirely believe him, although she supposed that it made sense. If there was some sort of maniac wanting revenge on her, she would have probably been the same way as she knew that she got further away from them.
"If ya say so... But ya know that ya could tell me anythin', right?" She asked slowly, not wanting him to feel as though he had to hold things back from her in order to seem more like a tough leader or anything like that. If there was one thing that Lacey hated more than anything else in the world, it was when people would judge other people and make assumptions about who they were when they had no idea who they really were.

"If ya say so... But ya know that ya could tell me anythin', right?"
Spot raised an eyebrow. He wasn't sure how to answer her question. It wasn't that he didn't trust her, but then again, it wasn't like he trusted her wholeheartedly either. Their friendship had grown over the past few days, and he did trust her as a bird. But that was it, he thought. He didn't really tell people about his personal matters (except family and maybe Jack). Personal stuff really wasn't meant to be shared regardless if he trusted someone or not. Perhaps there were things he just didn't want people to know.
So instead of answering her question, he just gave her a slight nod. They would soon be bumping into Staten newsies who could locate Biscuit and Thunder for them.

The nod from Spot was all that she assumed that she would get, with him quite obviously refusing to talk to her about anything that could be going on. She nodded slowly, sighing a bit as she continued following him, soon enough coming up on some boys who were quite obviously newsies. There was just something about the newsies where it was quite easy to tell.
"Are those them?" She asked, gesturing with her head to the group of boys, some of which seemed younger, and the older ones carried themselves differently than they did in Manhattan or Brooklyn. There was just something really different about them compared to other newsies around.

"Are those them?"
Spot glanced up ahead to see a few boys gathered. "Looks like a few of 'em."
He walked over to them and tapped one on the shoulder. The kid's face was priceless. He had a look of shock, worry, surprise, all together.
Spot chuckled. "Hey, kiddo. Biscuit and Thunder around?"
The kid quickly nodded, apparently not able to speak after getting scared so bad. The other boys were snickering, seeing as they saw Spot coming.

"Looks like a few of 'em."
Lacey nodded slowly, following Spot silently over to the group of boys. The boy that he chose to talk to seemed completely shocked by Spot's appearance there, although she didn't know if it was a good or bad kind of surprise.
"Hey, kiddo. Biscuit and Thunder around?"
Lacey paused. Who was Thunder? And why hadn't she heard about him before? It was obviously someone that Spot knew quite well, although she assumed that he had to be one of the leaders of the boroughs or something to make Spot truly care about him being there. She leaned in quickly, whispering in his ear so that none of the other newsies around her would be able to hear her. "Who's Thunder?"

The first kid was still in shock so he couldn't answer so one of the other boys piped up, "Biscuit is at the lodge, an' Thunder is at the rails."
Spot nodded and thanked the boys as he and Lacey walked away.
"Who's Thunder?"
He pursed his lips ever so slightly. "Just a friend of mine." He glanced down the street. If Biscuit was still at the lodge, they might have to split here. Or maybe he should just go with her so she wouldn't get lost. "Rails are a bit away... guess we could hit the lodge foist."

"Just a friend of mine."
Of course, as usual, Lacey wasn't entirely sure whether or not she could believe what he was saying. However, she chose to just believe him this time and not question whether or not they were actually friends or something else entirely.
"Rails are a bit away... guess we could hit the lodge foist."
Lacey nodded a bit, shrugging at his suggestion. Spot was the one who knew Staten, so she had no idea what she was doing. The only thing that she knew was a good idea while she was there was to stick with Spot and pray that nothing bad would end up happening to either one of them, or anyone else, for that matter.

Spot pursed his lips as Lacey merely nodded and shrugged. "Staten is a nice borough," he commented softly as they headed towards the boys' lodge. "Actually much tamer than 'Hattan. Biscuit is a good leader."
He supposed he should prepare Lacey for meeting Staten's leader. She did need to get to know Biscuit if she was going to be running around this area often for Spot.
"He's got great leadership like most of the leaders, but he's a bit soft."
It wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but Spot felt like it was something that Biscuit should rethink. For right now, being a softy seemed to be just fine for the boys and girls in Staten.

"Staten is a nice borough, actually much tamer than 'Hattan. Biscuit is a good leader."
Lacey was a bit surprised to hear that someplace was tamer than Manhattan, although she was actually quite happy about it. If Biscuit was a nice person, then it was going to be a lot easier for her to get along with him and relax around him, which is what Spot would need her to do if she was going to run over to Staten sometimes as a bird. "I'm glad, that's good."
"He's got great leadership like most of the leaders, but he's a bit soft."
Lacey smiled a bit, "Well, as long as he's a good leader, I suppose that something like that wouldn't make too much of a difference." She shrugged. She wouldn't know, though.

"I'm glad, that's good."
Spot cracked a small smile. If she was feeling good about this, he might make her the bird in charge of getting news from Staten.
"Well, as long as he's a good leader, I suppose that something like that wouldn't make too much of a difference."
He shrugged back. "Whatever seems ta work best for the borough is all that matters."
Nothing bad had really ever happened in Staten so he couldn't really judge Biscuit that harshly, and well the guys was a little older than him too. Maybe he should mention that to Lacey...
"Uh right... Biscuit, um he's older."
((Okay! Have a nice lunch! I'll be floating around as usual. X3 My replies might be a bit slow since I'm doing this between school breaks haha))

[No worries! Take all the time you need!]
"Whatever seems ta work best for the borough is all that matters."
Lacey nodded briefly, "That makes sense. Things here seem ta be goin' well." She replied, referring to the kids that had been back in the little group that they had come across already.
"Uh right... Biscuit, um he's older."
Lacey frowned a bit, "What do ya mean? How much older? How old is 'e?" She asked, a bit confused as to why it would be a big deal, although she assumed that it was important in some way if Spot had decided to bring it up to her.

"That makes sense. Things here seem ta be goin' well."
Spot nodded in agreement. "Staten is probably the quietest borough. Manhattan and Bronx would come close second."
"What do ya mean? How much older? How old is 'e?"
He scrunched up his face some. "Well... he's older than me," he started slowly, trying to remember the exact age. "Younger than Thunder... I think he's 18?"

"Staten is probably the quietest borough. Manhattan and Bronx would come close second."
Lacey smiled a bit, "That's what all the boroughs should want... But I guess things just don't always work out for the best in the end." She smiled a bit. Brooklyn wasn't quiet, that was for sure, but it wasn't... Well, it depended on the day whether it was the worst out of all of the boroughs or not. Rip seemed to be makings things tip more towards Queens, lately.
"Well... he's older than me. Younger than Thunder... I think he's 18?"
Lacey shrugged a bit. Eighteen wasn't that bad. She was seventeen herself, so she was getting towards the age where she wouldn't be allowed to work as a newsie anymore. She would have to find another job to survive with soon enough... Although she never saw herself leaving Brooklyn. She had a family to take care of there. Her oldest brother was fourteen, so he was there for a few more years at least. "Good for him."

"That's what all the boroughs should want... But I guess things just don't always work out for the best in the end."
Spot shrugged. He couldn't agree or disagree really. He would like peace in his borough, but the quietness in Staten made him a bit restless. It was nice for a short break but not all of the time.
"Good for him."
He nodded and scratched the back of his neck. "Rumor has it that he's gonna quit and find a new leader soon... says he's gettin' old." Spot shook his head. "He still got a year left, no rush."

"Rumor has it that he's gonna quit and find a new leader soon... says he's gettin' old."
That was a bit worrisome. Lacey - or anyone else, apparently - didn't really know what would happen if something were to change. If Biscuit wasn't the leader anymore, there was a possibility that Staten would become a lot less calm and collected. That worried her. "I hope that's a good thin'."
"He still got a year left, no rush."
"Yes, I s'pose so..." She mumbled, although she couldn't help but still be worried about it. There were just too many things that could go wrong in her mind, and she wasn't thrilled about it.

"I hope that's a good thin'."
Spot found himself shrugging. "I'm sure Biscuit knows what he's doin'. Besides, as long as he's got someone ready and picked out, there shouldn't be any problems when he passes on leadership."
At least, that was how it had been for him for the most part. More for Jack and even Rip though. Dragon was as tough as nails and was not ready to let go of Brooklyn.
"Yes, I s'pose so..."
He glanced over at her, noting the worry in her voice. "It ain't really anythin' ta worry about. Biscuit gots a good handle on things here, and even if somethin' does happen, 'Hattan will help straighten it out. And Brooklyn will be there if it gets bad."

"I'm sure Biscuit knows what he's doin'. Besides, as long as he's got someone ready and picked out, there shouldn't be any problems when he passes on leadership."
Lacey laughed weakly, "Then maybe ya should make sure that he's got someone picked out. It'd be good ta know if he doesn't before it actually matters to people." She pointed out.
"It ain't really anythin' ta worry about. Biscuit gots a good handle on things here, and even if somethin' does happen, 'Hattan will help straighten it out. And Brooklyn will be there if it gets bad."
"'M glad ya think so. I dunno Biscuit, so I'm gonna trust ya... But it's still a little weird ta have ta think about a leader leavin' their borough." She sighed sadly. She couldn't imagine having anyone else for a leader of Brooklyn anymore... And luckily, unless something horrible happened so Spot, she would be leaving being a newsie right along with him, maybe a little while before.

"Then maybe ya should make sure that he's got someone picked out. It'd be good ta know if he doesn't before it actually matters to people."
Spot nodded some. It probably would be a good idea to check up on that. After all, the rumors might not be true. "Yeah, it would be good ta get ta know the newbie before he becomes leader."
"'M glad ya think so. I dunno Biscuit, so I'm gonna trust ya... But it's still a little weird ta have ta think about a leader leavin' their borough."
He shrugged. "I guess... but they gotta move on, ya know? If they stick around too long, they might start bossin' around the new leader an' still act in charge." That had been the case with him and Dragon. The guy was always telling him how he should do this or do that. This was the way you run Brooklyn not like whatever mess you're doing. It was perfectly fine with Spot that Dragon had finally moved out of Brooklyn.

"Yeah, it would be good ta get ta know the newbie before he becomes leader."
Lacey nodded in agreement, glad that Spot seemed to agree with her idea about it. It was the only time when she really got listened to by someone, so she was always grateful for having someone like Spot there beside her.
"I guess... but they gotta move on, ya know? If they stick around too long, they might start bossin' around the new leader an' still act in charge."
Lacey smiled weakly, "I'll miss havin' ya there when I leave, or you leave, or whoever leaves... It'll be strange knowin' that my brothers won't have ya there takin' care of the borough around 'em." She smiled sadly.

Spot felt his cheeks burn. "Ah well... it ain't like I'm goin' anywhere soon, or um, you. I kinda plan on stickin' in Brooklyn after I'm done as a newsie," he trailed off.
He wasn't going to be like Dragon. When he was done, he'd be done and step into the shadows. But there was no way he could leave Brooklyn. It was home to him and would always be home.
